Fruit can be exported without any problems. We had pineapple (well, it was a pity to throw out such a tasty treat) and kiwi. Nobody even said a word. And durian, this stench is not forgotten. They didn’t dare to try, firstly, when our compatriots saw us thinking about buying this fruit, they dissuaded us, and secondly, there was a No Durian sign in the hotel. It's still worth a try though. I'm like a wild man, for the first time I saw a YELLOW watermelon (i.e. the flesh is yellow). My expectations were not met, but worth a try.

No export of gold bars, Buddha images (except small neck medallions and other personal items of worship), rough gemstones, ivory and any leather or bone of protected animals, stamps, archeological finds, works of art and antiques (requires permission from the Department of Fine Arts) , Fine Arts Department). Permission is required for the export of electronics, radio transmitters, live plants and animals, and medicines. Tobacco and tobacco products are exported without restrictions.

As far as I remember, there are restrictions on durian, cult objects - various images of the Buddha and plants with earth. Well, what everyone has - at least I really wanted to buy a knife in a sheath, but I was afraid to carry it.
Fruit is pulled in baskets. BUT DON'T BE GREED - remember about the maximum weight at the airport. They talked about people who threw fruit baskets when they were told about the price of overweight and additional payment.
We usually take only what is not in our supermarkets.
аватар butterflytattoo
well, of course, and we also want to treat fruits purely to parents ...

I always bring fruit, fish and oyster sauce, dried shrimp, concentrates and pastes, fresh and dried lemongrass and kaffir leaves. There were never any questions. Fruit - in hand luggage (never weighed, just looked at the dimensions), everything else - in a suitcase. At home, after receiving luggage from the tape, we do a trick - we open the suitcase, take out a pre-packed bag with some things, in its place - a fruit basket, then we already go past customs to the exit. And then our customs officers are very well aware of "fruit" baskets by sight and are not at all averse to launching their greedy trunk into them :( I think you can safely put a crab in a suitcase, having previously packed it well.

"And the durian, this stink is not forgotten. We didn’t dare to try it, firstly, our compatriots saw us thinking about buying this fruit and dissuaded us, and secondly, there was a No Durian sign in the hotel."
Still, you should have tried it :) That durian stinks, which is overripe and began to deteriorate. The right durian does not smell of anything bad :) - a light nutty-floral smell and very, very tasty pulp, similar in taste to custard.
If you take it cut into trays, you need to smell it and try it with your finger. I already wrote about the smell, and the flesh should be slightly soft to the touch, but not much, the finger should not fall through. There are other methods on how to choose a whole durian, if you are interested, I will write.
And compatriots are fools, sorry hospadi!
аватар nfyz_01
Thank you dear Pachok for the clarification! To be honest, I myself regret that I didn’t take a chance, but listened to the advice of vacationers. But I hope that we will be in Tai more than once - and even then, without listening to anyone, we will taste this wonderful fruit !!! If it doesn't bother you, please write how to choose a normal, non-smelly crunch! I'll make a note for the future! :-)
аватар Pachok
I apologize to the author of the topic for the flood!
nfyz 01, If you still decide to buy a whole uncut fruit, know :) that:
- the stalk must be vigorous, not sluggish, so that you can lift the durian by it
- the fetus should not stink
- the sellers have a special stick with which they knock, determining the ripeness. Claim your wand and with a serious face knock on the durian. Sellers will recognize you as their own and will offer the best :) The sound should not be too sonorous, this means that the durian is greenish, and should not be "loose", this happens when the durian is overripe. Ideally, the sound is muffled, as if going deep. I don't know how to describe it better...
- after tapping, ask the seller to make an incision, this is a common practice, as we used to check watermelons, sniff again and boldly stick your finger inside. Further, as with butchered - it should be of medium softness, not hard and not falling apart.
Basically, everything.
You can immediately ask the seller to cut the durian,
or you can try it yourself, but, as you rightly noted, not all hotels can carry it, and besides, it has very hard plucked skin, you need to have a decent knife.
аватар Pachok
I will add - nothing depends on the size of the fruit and the color of its skin. But the rich yellow color of the pulp slices indicates that he overripe. Ideally, they should be a light yellowish-cream shade.

stunned!!! very useful information, on the next trip we will definitely be ready for tasting, thank you, Pachok! :-)))

Cheers! :)

and i say thank you for the helpfulness...

those. From there, fruit can be taken out in hand luggage, but they don’t let them in at customs? how do you just open a suitcase and change bags? they don't see it there?
аватар butterflytattoo
I’ve heard about durian, but I’m not sure that we’ll risk it, although it’s probably worth trying everything .... I want pineapples and my daughter loves mango .... I also heard about a watermelon shake chtoli called .... I also want sushi .. rolls ... shrimp .. fish and in general I want to go to Thailand ....
аватар butterflytattoo
By the way, where are the rolls spinning? everywhere go, on the beach, for example, is there? and fish?
аватар Russ2209
I'm afraid at the expense of rolls it will be more difficult for you than with other seafood. For this country, this is unconventional food. Rolls can be tasted in any Japanese cafe or restaurant, and I also took them by the piece in the Vig C shopping center - it costs 10 baht / piece. (you pick up any you want, they pack them for you and take them away).
Shrimps, fish, various meats are sold everywhere. If you want to concentrate on seeing and tasting everything that they give, you can go to the night market (there is really unusual food, but I won’t say more, otherwise it won’t be interesting), which works several days a week. In recent years, travel companies have already actively recommended visiting it.
аватар butterflytattoo
wow thanks ... but they kind of told me that the rolls are twirling at every turn ....... well, okay, we’ll buy in big c if anything .... I just burn them
аватар butterflytattoo
you probably mean all sorts of worms and beetles, my daughter saw it on the net so she said that God forbid .......
аватар butterflytattoo
well, tell me what delicious things we can try there ... you probably liked and like something .....
аватар Russ2209
No, I didn’t mean worms (although I personally tried locusts and larvae - I didn’t like it, and all this nonsense is fried in one oil and has a similar taste).
For my taste, I recommend taking fish with fruit sauce in street taverns (grilled red sea bass), but on the streets you can find pancakes (fried with filling: eggs + banana / mango), local soups, shrimp in batter and more.
Our standard dinner (when I was too lazy to go somewhere) consisted of a set of various meats and fish, which was collected at the nearest street brazier + local alcohol from the next 7-11.
I did not like the lobster, but for others it is a delicacy.
And in a couple of weeks this joy will end, like all of ours :) - you will dream of potatoes with herring, dumplings and borscht. Although, it is there too.
Wow, ... as he wrote all this - he himself became unbearable. We were 8 people already gathered in October (we also teased them with stories - now we are taking a delegation) ...
аватар butterflytattoo
oooh yummy... meaty fish krevedkoooo hospadi would be faster ..... I also gathered a company, infected everyone with my stories, here we are going 6 girls, only in November, everything has already been paid for, we can’t wait ........ .
аватар butterflytattoo
and we definitely want to try the lobster, why didn’t you like it?
аватар butterflytattoo
What do you recommend for alcohol...
аватар Pachok
Lobster is like a lobster... nothing special. Like any crustacean. Try crab in salt.
Here's Tom Yum! The soup is local. Or Tom Ka.
Red curry with duck, Pad Thai noodles, Khao Pad rice, chicken with cashew nuts, catfish on a stick from a macaroon, roti pancakes with condensed milk and fresh coconut meat... Everything! I went to cook Tom Yam, otherwise my stomach grumbles :)
From alcohol - Chang and Singha beer, Sam Song rum.
From there, fruit can be carried in luggage! The whole question is in our customs (we have in Kyiv the way I wrote, and the tapes with luggage are out of sight of the customs).
If you like sushi, find a Fiji chain restaurant, in PTT, it seems, there is a shopping center. Everything Japanese is amazingly delicious.
You can buy food from street stalls without fear - everything is fresh and tasty, and it's not worms :) There, the tray is not just a tray, but a "field kitchen", everything is done in front of you, you can see HOW and what exactly they put in the dish.
We took food from the macarons, and went to cafes and restaurants. Rating on "tasty" lined up like this:
1st place - "canteens" for locals (they look creepy, but HOW TASTY THERE !!!) you need to choose one where there are a lot of visitors
2nd place - cafe
3rd place - Japanese networkers
4th place - restaurants
5th place - restaurants with owners - Europeans.
аватар nfyz_01
"you will dream of potatoes with herring, dumplings and borscht" - that's for sure, at the end of the 2nd week of vacation I could not stand it, I wanted dumplings! I had to look for a restaurant (which is in abundance in Thailand)!
аватар Pachok
Makashnitsy - out of categories.
From fruit, try mangosteen, if you get it in season - they are just a bomb there! Pathetic, small, twisted ones from our supermarkets have nothing to do with plump juicy Thai mangosteen!:)
Shakes didn’t really hook me, except for one thing - lychee smoothies.
Melons, watermelons - nothing special, Astrakhan, Asian and Kherson are better. Here is a jackfruit - smelly, obviously carries a garbage dump, where is the durian.
аватар nfyz_01
Thais usually do not cook at home, but buy food on the street. You can eat on the spot, or you can take food packed in polyethylene. The most popular dish in Thailand is noodle soup. Rice pasta, broth, fish balls (or pork or chicken), sprouted peas and some other pods. Greens are not boiled, but thrown raw, (retains vitamins). Seasoned at will with sugar, ground nuts, pepper, vinegar and fish sauce. This soup costs about one dollar. Delicious. Another popular Patthai dish, noodles fried in soy sauce, is also delicious.
