If you are not a gemologist, then you will hardly be able to distinguish natural turquoise from imitation. In India, most likely, they will sell you howlite, it will be very cheap, but it is not turquoise. In fairness, if a friend asks you to bring a stone from Goa for the sake of economy, then there will be no difference between howlite and turquoise for her.
