Is it worth taking a bicycle with you to Transcarpathia?
Hello.
We are going to visit Transcarpathia in the region of Mizhhirya in late spring or early summer, possibly the settlement of Synevyrska Polyana. Tell me, please, is it worth taking a bicycle with you, is it possible to move around on it? We would like to visit, for example, Lake Synevyr, Shypit waterfall and other beauties of nature. Thank you in advance.

If you have any experience on a bike in mountainous terrain, yes. In the spring, if it's rainy, it will be just crazy mud - it's not very pleasant to ride and in general it will be tough. If the weather is sunny and dry, then only your physical preparation is decisive. There are very mountainous roads in the Mezhhirya region, as for Ukraine they are narrow. Cars don't really rely on cyclists on these roads, it's not very comfortable either.
In the Volovets area, it is rather gentle, but to the left and right of the paved roads, there are hills and mountains.
In any case, and with any preparation, part of your path will have to ride on you ;-)

Of course, there are no bike lanes :) Cyclists usually ride along the edge of the carriageway, the shoulders are narrow and uncomfortable. But it is on the route Mezhgorye - Synevyr - Synevyr Polyana that I often see cyclists, even with tents, recently foreigners often come across.

Pack, there are a lot of cyclists, but this is a completely different category of people and they formulate questions differently and definitely not here. Those whom you see from the car window should not be compared with the questioner here. A bike trip (with all the attributes - trunks, burners, categories, etc.) and driving to the lake from Volovets are two big differences. In the second case, it is better not to take your own bike - this is a separate inconvenience - what to carry, where to put in the hotel, and what if it breaks. You can rent it at the hotel, drive your 50 km and calm down.

If all the same experience of pokatushek is, the preparation is normal, then go ahead. I described the cons above. Personally, I don’t like the driving style of our motorists, and where it’s narrow and there is no roadside, I don’t like to ride. I really like to ride along the crossroads, but in the mountains it is much more difficult, plus you need maps, plus so that there is no mud. There is such dirt that sticks to the wheels and does not spin at all. Kag be or on asphalt uphill with cars or by nature uphill, but only dry ;-)
