Excursions in Lviv region
We are planning a week in Lviv. Tell me, is it worth going on excursions to castles in the vicinity of Lviv? Or can you advise what else you can see near Lviv? And what is the best way to book an excursion via the Internet or on the spot in Lviv?
Thank you in advance!

A good firm in Lviv Monolittur will offer you any excursions around Lviv. http://www.monolittour.lviv.ua/

If you mean the excursion "Golden Horseshoe", then you are visiting Zolochevsky, Podgoretsky and Olesky castles. I liked the Podgoretsky castle, even though it is in the most deplorable state.
Tour for an amateur.
Relatively close to Pochaev, you can see the Lavra and the Church of St. Anna near Kremenets.
I recommend visiting Zhovkva, not far from Lviv, and there is something to see.
You decide.

thanks for the tips!
and Ivano-Frankivsk is far from Lviv in time? Or is it not worth going there?
аватар V_STR
It is about 150 km to Ivano-Frankivsk, 2 hours by bus. I have not been to this city, but I heard that there is nothing special in the city itself.
Was in Rohatyn (half way to I-Frankivsk), the birthplace of Roksolana. A wooden temple has been preserved there, in which Roksolana's father served. I heard on the news that about a year ago this temple was robbed.

Good place Chervonogrud, but without a car is not realistic and only in dry summer weather

Ivano-Frankivsk-refuse! There is nothing to watch. Throwing Lviv for Franyk is not logical.
Chervonogrud is far from Lviv. And there is nothing to do in winter and spring. Especially if a person has not seen Lviv and its surroundings.
In the surroundings: what is called the Golden Horseshoe has already been advised to you. This is the easiest to implement and, perhaps, the most interesting option. You should like the castle in Olesko, there is a restaurant right in the castle, and museums, and a branch of the art gallery. Near the monastery, around the castle - a park with sculptures. Generally, it's nice.
Zolochiv is a nice place, a castle and a palace in the form of a house, called Chinese, also landscaped. Weaker than Olesko. And Podgortsy is a very beautiful palace, formerly a castle, it has not been restored and there is nothing inside that an average tourist can like. Only door marble portals, stoves with tiles and that's all remained from the old days. Well. the basement is also for fans of the underground, but the light should be your own ;-)
The view from this castle is very beautiful, and the castle itself looks great with the trees and alleys surrounding it. It's better to get acquainted with its history first. This place is very important.
Also in Podgortsy there is a very mystical church, so dilapidated, but beautiful, right in front of the castle

You don't need Rogatyn either. Nothing worth leaving Lviv for.
In addition, you can make such a "ring": Lviv-Zholkva-Krekhov-Stradch-Lviv.
This is if you have a car. This option for public transport looks like this: Lviv-Zholkva-Krekhov-Lviv.
Zhovkva is an old, very beautiful place. There will be no crowds of tourists, as in Lviv, but there are many worthy historical places here! What can I say, according to the number of historical and architectural monuments, the first three places in Ukraine are occupied by Kyiv, Lviv and Kamyanets-Podolsky. And the fourth is Zhovkva (Zhovkva).
Not far from it there is a very well-groomed and beautiful convent. Previously, it was defensive, so there is a massive fortress wall, towers. Inside there is a courtyard, several temples, a recreation area. The place is picturesque. True, I was violent in summer and snowy in winter. At this time, it's probably a little worse. The monastery is somewhat away from the village itself, but minibuses go straight to it. From there back to Lviv.

Stradch-if on a minibus, then best of all from Lviv. Only 12 km from it towards Krakovets. I recommend reading about this place, in some way it is unique, although you are unlikely to have heard of it.
During the time of Kievan Rus and the Galicia-Volyn principality, the second underground monastery in Ukraine after the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was located near the village. It is mentioned in the Galicia-Volyn Chronicle of 1242 under the name "Domazhirova Cave".
Archaeological research has established that the monastery consisted of an entrance gallery (length about 40 m), passages with a total length of over 270 m and several cells, which were located at a depth of about 20 m. There was a fortified settlement on the top of the mountain. The monastery ceased to exist around the 14th century.
So, today, these caves can be visited, they look like natural caves (if you were in Mlynki or Crystal Cave in Western Ukraine). You can walk along the paths, you just need your own light. Only the first few rooms are illuminated. The passage to the caves can be skipped, it is "disguised", but always open. In general, Stradch-recommend!

You can also recommend the Unevskaya Lavra. She is not as "pompous" as Pochaev's. Melee, that's right! Small, pretty, neat. There is a large collection of crucifixes from the facades of temples and chapels (chapels). Beautiful nature.
The Pochaev Lavra is quite far away, but many go there from afar. I don't like it, for example. In aesthetic terms, Podkamen is much more pleasant and nicer to me. If you have the opportunity to visit Pochaev, then drop by Podkamen. Firstly, there is not completely restored, but a stunning Catholic church, if I'm not mistaken, even the organ has been preserved there. The views there are beautiful!
Also a stone on the mountain, of a bizarre shape and some kind of fantastic against the backdrop of an ordinary village. Google it!
Also near the stone is an old cemetery, they say Cossack.
Kremenets is also not far away and it is also worth a visit, but to say that Mount Bona with two walls from the castle is something very special, then no. The view from the mountain is excellent in good weather. I was there in a thunderstorm with a rainbow - I liked it ;-)

Not far from it there is a very well-groomed and beautiful convent. This is what I meant Krekhov !!! Krekhov near Zhovkva

As for travel agencies, I can't tell. But I know for sure that the Golden Horseshoe is the most realistic option. Whether in advance or on the spot. I'm not sure they have groups on site. Most likely in advance. More reliable, right?
I'm sure that there are proposals for Pochaev + Kremenets, but I'm not sure that Podkamen will be included there. Most likely there are options when on the way to Pochaev, you will drop by Olesko. Once, I met such tourists in Olesko, on the way from Pochaev, and it was a 1 day tour. It’s just that I don’t use the services of travel agencies, but in castles and museums, I intersect with groups, I communicate.
Zholka + Krekhov is definitely there, someone from my acquaintances went, but I don’t know with whom and how the group gathered.
In Stradch, in my opinion, they do not carry. There are only pilgrims, hell of a move and so on. That is, not regular tour groups.
In Uniev there were groups with guides, some schoolchildren. Probably irregular too.

At least there were excursions to the Stradch caves. Only in winter, it is probably difficult to transport up the mountain to the upper temple. This excursion really included Stradch, through Yavoriv to the Krekhovsky Monastery (only a male monastery - maybe it’s important for someone - the excursion is led by monks and I definitely remember the monk guide with a Baltic accent). From Krekhov to Zhovkva. Excursion for the whole day.

If the information is relevant to you, then I can tell you the telephone number of the guide in Lviv ... It will be much cheaper than contacting through a travel agency. And the guide - from God!
аватар office_l-travel
It is unlikely that it will be cheaper than through a travel agency, since field trips, as a rule, are teams. Accordingly, the cost of travel and services of a guide is shared by all. For 7 hours we charge 175 UAH per person. Is there really a guide who will charge less than 25 UAH/hour for an individual tour?

Yes, I didn’t see it a bit ... this is a guide in Lviv))

so much advice, thanks! We will be in Lviv at the weekend. we plan on the "golden horseshoe" of Lviv and are very interested in Zhovkva and Krekhov. It’s a pity that I haven’t found excursions there yet, we’ll probably go on our own
аватар V_STR
I did not use the services of l-travel.com.ua, but this excursion is declared on their website, follow the link http://l-travel.com.ua/ru/excursion/view/15/. The tour does not include the Stradch caves, but Zhovkva is worth visiting.
