Tell me, please, where is the best place to stay in Tunisia? We are planning to go in October. We want to see more (Carthage, El Jemo, mosaic museum, etc.) + diving. Which is better: buy some excursions, use public transport or rent a car?

I traveled by public transport
the fact is that Carthage and El Jem are on opposite sides of each other
closest to Carthage from the resorts of NAbel and Hamammet, and to El Jem from Mahdia
a universal way to choose a hotel in Sousse or Porto el Kantaoui.
but I would even advise if you choose independent tourism to choose Hammamet. how to get to the excursions is written in my review. minibus stations - Luagey Station (fr) are in every city. it will take you longer to go to the amphitheater, but there will be less to see.
in Carthage, after all, there are 6 tour points and Sidi Bou Said is nearby and the capital itself is worth seeing
only in the country it is very dirty, pay attention

Thanks for the answer. For some reason, Turpravda did not tell me that he is, so I thank you belatedly. I read your review - the country does not inspire. If you couldn't understand their Arabic, do they understand French? And about diving for my friend can you advise something? Or is October already cold (Hammamet in the north of the country)? What are the beaches like there? Is it possible to walk along the sea or is it problematic? (I remember that in Hurghada it was impossible)

you can walk along the sea. All tourists do this. alas, I won’t say about diving, we didn’t even offer it at the hotel.
you have to speak French very slowly with them. don't understand quickly.
On the way to the hotel, the guide told us that they all speak English fluently. Unfortunately no.

Tell me, please, have you bought any excursions in travel agencies "in the city"? If so, can you give me an approximate price? I started to read the guidebook and I understand that in addition to Carthage and El Jem, I would also like to go to Dugga, the Bardo Museum, Sousse (the latter, apparently, is better than myself). Or they don't go there? Maybe they offer to go somewhere else? Approximately how much money may be needed for my requests if I go on excursions somewhere every day? And I see that everything is open only from 8 am to lunch, sometimes later in winter (when do they have "winter"?) That is, you have to leave before any breakfasts there in order to have time to look?

I did not meet any travel agencies in the city. we had guides from tour operators at the hotel and also locals walking around. the locals were 2 times cheaper.
in Carthage from the hotel guide is about 55 euros. but not everything is shown there. only 2 points.
we ourselves rode to Carthage and El Jem. in Duggu excursion was offered from the guide, too, about 50 ye. but no one went there with us.
in Sousse you can do it yourself, there is nothing special to see there. dirt and stink.
We left for the tour around 11:00 am. so that in the Amphitheater and Carthage were all alone) excursions were already taken away by tourists. peace and quiet. and there are no extra individuals in the photo in the background. this is a plus. well, freedom - go where you want, do what you want. although Carthage disappointed me personally (((

Thanks for answers. It is strange that there are no travel agencies in tour reservations. But if we are going to go, I will take into account everything that you wrote.
And the fact that Carthage disappointed me does not surprise me. I noticed that if you somehow already imagine something, you really want to see it, in reality it does not meet expectations. That's why I'm not trying to "invent" anything for myself now: how it will turn out.
I don’t have any special sympathy for the East at all and I’m not very eager. And in China, not everything was smooth, and in Turkey, and in Egypt. There are places that you want to see, but for some reason you don’t want to go “to reality”. Probably because you want to relax there, "where you are loved"
