Travel to Thailand

One of the features of this trip is independent travel. Fellow travelers - girls from Russia - I found on the Internet on a special site. Having decided on the dates of departure and return, we decided to try to get to the place of rest ourselves, without resorting to the services of travel agencies. Having booked the necessary hotels and transfers on the Internet, we began to pack for the road. After all, I had to move from winter to summer, and I did not dare to entrust the selection of wardrobe to social networks. As, however, and the purchase of air tickets. I bought plane tickets from a travel agency - I wanted at least some guarantees that they would put me on a plane, and as it turned out later, this decision turned out to be very correct.

It took me almost two days to get from Zaporozhye to Bangkok - my air flight started from Donetsk with a transfer in Moscow. After marinating for more than 8 hours at Sheremetyevo, I finally got on a plane to the capital of Thailand. The almost 10-hour flight was fun and noisy - many passengers of the flight, mostly Russians, got drunk in the trash in a few hours, talked loudly, cursed, etc. And this despite the fact that alcohol was not served on board the airliner . In the menu handed out to us by the flight attendants, it was written like this: “In order to improve the quality of flight service, the airline does not offer alcoholic beverages to passengers on the following flights Moscow-Bangkok, Moscow-Phuket and Moscow-Beijing. ” Just like Bulgakov: "Do not offer beer to Sharikov. " But lovers of strong drinks were not at all embarrassed - they “stocked up” with everything they needed in Duty Free stores, and some of them had already thoroughly “plucked up” before the flight. One unfortunate traveler was even removed from the flight - a drunken man began to rage and pester the stewardess, he was taken out of the plane, removed his luggage and left in Moscow.

The road to the island took almost half a day - it is located at a distance of 315 km from Bangkok, but it was quite comfortable to travel in a comfortable air-conditioned minibus. We passed colorful Buddhist temples, as well as numerous banana and rubber plantations. Rubber mining is one of the types of profitable business in Thailand. Trees grow quickly and bear fruit for about 25 years. After this period, the plantation is no longer suitable for the further cultivation of rubber plants, and it is sold for the development of hotels. And bananas in Thailand are planted with seedlings, just like Ukrainians plant tomatoes in their dachas.

But now we got to the ferry. The crossing to the island took about 40 minutes, the road to the hotel was almost an hour - the narrow mountain "serpentine" was loaded with transport "to the eyeballs". One more descent - and we found ourselves in a real paradise.

Coconuts grow here right by the seaCoconuts grow here right by the sea

The beauty of this place is hard to describe in words. Our hotel, or rather, small Thai-style bungalows, was located right in the jungle on the seashore. Banana and coconut palms grew around the houses, ripe coconuts fell directly to the ground. The ripe magnolia beauty dropped fruits and crimson leaves into the water, roots hung down from a huge tree on the shore in brown strands. Dark brown squirrels jumped through the trees, marvelous butterflies fluttered on exotic flowers. The sea itself turned out to be simply fabulous - a clean beach, clear warm water, marvelous landscapes around. It makes me want to say, “Wow!! ! I'm in paradise! »

Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand after Phuket. It is located in the Pacific Ocean, on the East coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Chang means "Isle of the Elephant" in Thai. The island got its name due to its shape, which resembles an elephant's head turned towards the kingdom of Cambodia. 80% of the island is covered by jungle, tourist infrastructure and local villages are located along the coast.

Clean sandy beaches, waterfalls, tropical forests, coral reefs are simply amazing here - the nature of the island still retains its original purity and freshness, since Koh Chang has been away from the tourist business for a long time. Over the past 4 years, the infrastructure of the island has been developing rapidly - new hotels, banks, clinics, nightclubs, etc. are being built. So soon the most avid party-goers, lovers of Pattaya, will have fun on Koh Chang.

Well, we didn’t have to get bored even without special parties - there were plenty of entertainment, both daytime and nighttime.

If you are in Thailand, be sure to ride elephants, get a lot of fun.

Madam Euliun is just lovely! Madam Eulyun just lovely!

We also visited uninhabited islands, around which you can swim with a mask and snorkel and admire the underwater beauty. We got to the place by boat, which made three stops near reefs and islets. At first, I could not cope with the swimming equipment in any way - the public pipe chewed by tourists let the water through, the mask pressed mercilessly. Conclusion: if you want to enjoy the contemplation of sea urchins, take proven devices with you. The second island turned out to be not so uninhabited: a new building “loomed” in the jungle - a toilet of a “cheerful” green color, a white chicken wandered along the shore. And not far away on the rocky shore could be seen a small temple. It turned out to be a Thai temple of fertility - on the altar and near the entrance there were statues of roosters and hens, as well as numerous wooden phalluses of various sizes. Tourists were happy to take pictures with all these beauties, and Russian travelers called this marvelous building simply and vulgarly "Piskin's House".

Inhabitants of an "uninhabited" island in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand

But now it's time to say goodbye to both the temple of fertility and the white chicken - we are going to the third island. Here, my friends helped me put on the mask and snorkel correctly, and I was able to swim normally near the reefs, and even feed the fish. The fish “flock” to the bun in a large flock, grab the treat from the hands, and when the bun ends, they begin to bite the “breadwinner”, demanding more food. I had to swim closer to the reefs and contemplate the sea urchins - they "behaved" more calmly, waved their long needles and looked askance at the passing tourists with bright orange luminescent eyes. Our Thai guides also gave an underwater "performance" - they dived deep into the water and let air rings out of their mouths. Some tourists tried to imitate them, but not very successfully, but everyone had fun.

Let's swim with a mask! Let's swim with a mask!

After such adventures, it would not hurt to refresh yourself - the local cuisine is simply amazing. I advise those wishing to lose weight to restrain themselves, although it is not easy - Thai dishes are very diverse and tasty, and I want to try everything, everything, everything. BBQ king prawns, fish, scallops, corn and potatoes, soups with glass vermicelli, shrimp and coconut milk, chicken and seafood stewed in tomato sauce with cashew nuts and vegetables, necks and freshly squeezed fresh juices from exotic fruits - and this is not a complete list of all the dishes and delicacies offered by the Thai menu. You don’t have to worry about the excessive spiciness of the dishes - if you tell the waiter the magic phrase “but spacey” (without spices) - you will be brought a completely “European” taste of food. And if Thai food “sinks” into your soul, then in one of the glamorous restaurants of Koh Chang you can even take a master class from the chef on cooking national dishes.

Insidious Thai dishes. If you want to keep a slim figure, do not lean too much!

Shopping in Thailand can make any fashionista hysterical. Bangkok has a special shopping area, but Koh Chang also has a lot of new things to buy. Staple and gauze pareos of various colors, skirts, trousers in "elephant calves", washed cotton T-shirts with beautiful prints, dresses, handbags, jewelry, summer shoes, bags - your eyes run straight. And all this is indecently cheap - on average, for $70, you can completely stock up on summer clothes, both hiking and glamorous, and buy souvenirs for friends and relatives for another $50. Thai knickknacks - bells, cups, mirrors, etc. - caused a storm of delight in my environment in my homeland, and immediately I was taken aback by the question: “Why did I bring so little? »

It's not enough, it's not enough. . . So why shouldn't I go to nightclubs because of you, my dears? Discos on Koh Chang are still few in number, but they do exist. Life on the streets of the island stops by 11 pm, and at this time those who want to continue the fun and lovers of dancing flock to nightlife. Music in Thai discos is quite European, as in our nightclubs. Only in the morning, DJs put on Thai modern hits, and bartenders, waiters and locals who are tired of the night sing along to pleasant calm melodies.

Evening at a rock cafe on Bang Bao beach. And they have such chandeliers...

Cocktails in Thai bars are very tasty, they are decorated with real orchids. You can take a "bucket" with a cocktail of vodka, cola and ice - it tastes like slop, but in this heat it's quite normal. "Bucket" with a handle - grab it and forward to the dance floor, "sausage. " Only sometimes you need to look under your feet so as not to step on a loitering dog and not to crush its tail.

Thai dogs

Dogs are everywhere on Koh Chang - on the beaches, in shops, in cafes. They do not show much aggression, the Thais do not beat them or chase them. But it is forbidden to feed animals while eating in a restaurant, moreover, frightening inscriptions on banners warn that a tourist bitten by a dog will also be fined.

Cats of Koh Chang

Almost every restaurant has cats - thin, sinewy and vicious. During the day they hunt small lizards, in the evening they brazenly sleep on bar counters. Lizards in Thailand in the evenings play the role of butterflies flying into the light - they scurry along the ceilings and climb into the lamps. And with the onset of darkness, the jungle is filled with special night sounds - the cicadas sing deafeningly, the lizard “tuki-tuki” loudly screams, someone is noisily fiddling and fighting under the ceiling. I don’t know who it was, but it interfered with sleep - in the morning I wanted to swim in the sea, while it was still not very hot, so as not to get burned. By the way, it is better to buy sunscreens locally - they are more adapted to local conditions, while creams brought with you practically do not protect against the burning Thai sun.

And now the time of my departure to my homeland is approaching, I need to return to Bangkok. My flight started early in the morning, so I had to say goodbye to the gentle coast of the Gulf of Thailand and leave Koh Chang island a day before departure.

I got to the hotel near the airport without incident, slept well, and in the evening went for a walk around the evening Bangkok. I didn’t get much pleasure from the walk - the narrow sidewalks of the walking quarter were cluttered with stalls, mobile bars and crowded with people. Stuffy, hot, crowded and unpleasant. I bought a couple of souvenirs, drank a shake in a nice restaurant with live music and returned to the hotel. I thought - now I'll sleep well, and go home in the morning.

Yes, it was not there! In the middle of the night, I received a message from my tour operator from Zaporozhye that my air ticket (by the way, paid for) was canceled - there is a departure refusal in the system. I had to ask at the reception in the middle of the night to surf the Internet - to discuss further actions with the tour agent. My travel agent spent the whole night looking for a suitable flight for me, and I languished in anticipation. The next morning they kicked me out of the hotel with the words “Not have room” (no places), but, looking at my sour face, they decided to help - they offered to move to another hotel.

The new hotel was better)))

The new hotel was better)))

I had to agree - the search for tickets to my homeland threatened to be delayed. I moved to a more comfortable hotel, with a swimming pool, round-the-clock Internet and other benefits of civilization. Plane tickets were soon booked for me - for the late evening of the next day. And this unexpected delay in departure gave me the opportunity to visit another place of unique beauty - the Grand Royal Palace in Bangkok.

Bird of happiness, bring me more of this happiness!

The Grand Royal Palace is both a religious shrine of Thailand, and a historical monument, and an open-air museum, which exhibits all the most impressive things created by human hands. You can wander around its territory for hours admiringly looking at the most beautiful temples, statues, trees and flowers. It is impossible to remember everything and even get around the first time, the heat and the abundance of tourists exhausted by the beauties are exhausting. But I got to the Temple of the Golden Buddha, and even made a wish… I took a picture with the golden bird of happiness and with a young soldier standing calmly in the 40-degree heat in full ammunition, and also visited the textile museum. The textile museum was pleasantly cool, displaying richly decorated dresses and costumes worn by members of the imperial family and Thai opera divas. I also watched with interest a short video film, which showed the process of making silk fabrics - from growing caterpillars, collecting cocoons, soaking and dyeing threads, etc. , to obtaining a finished fabric.

And at the exit from the museum, a stubborn street vendor clung to me with a request to buy a pendant with a Buddha figurine from him. At the same time, he turned down the price indecent - 300 baht ($ 10) apiece. I rushed to my heels, the merchant did not lag behind. I had to buy a pendant, knocking down the price three times. We parted, satisfied with each other, and then I realized that without a trip to visit the Buddha, I would not have been able to leave Bangkok.

I got home without much adventure. I was safely let on the plane and taken to my destination, and they promised to reimburse the costs of paying for the hotel due to the forced transfer of the flight.

And sunny Thailand will forever remain in my heart. I would like to return there again and again, and perhaps not alone, but with a beloved and loving man. On the island of Koh Chang there is a place where wedding ceremonies are held. My companions, who became good friends to me, and I visited it, and each of us made a secret wish. Maybe everything will work out? Dreams do come true, that's a fact.
