Carnival in Venice 2013. How to make a dream come true?
Hello dear travelers.
We had a wedding in September, but there was no honeymoon yet ...
I'm just delusional about a trip to Venice for Carnival 2013, I plan to get there by the opening on February 3rd. There is almost no experience in travel (Turkey, Egypt), and independent travel even more so. Now I am actively collecting information, but I understand that tickets and hotels are becoming more expensive not by the day, but by the hour.
Tell me, please, is it more convenient and cheaper to arrange everything yourself or take a tour package? Will there be any problems with the visa?
My action plan:
1. Buy tickets. I still have a foreigner on the exchange, can I do without it?
2. Book a hotel.
This is the main ... Advise where it is better to live in Mestre near the station or in Venice near the station? It is clear that the difference in price is 2 times, but will we roll this difference when traveling from Mestre

you can go to the "independent tourism" section of the Forum and they will tell you more there.

First you need to decide HOW you will get to Italy.
TA often offer a multi-country trip, bus tour.
air tours are more expensive.
if you want to fly by air, it's cheaper to organize it yourself.
problems with visas may or may not be in both options. but, I know for myself, when you make a visa yourself, you control all the points yourself, and you rely on yourself. TA can fuck something, miss, forget, miss. you won't find anyone to blame in this case. and they do not give guarantees of obtaining visas.
for questions:
1. tickets can be taken without a passport, but you need to know 100% of your full name, which will be in the new passport
2. there are no problems at all) a lot of different sites. the main thing is to decide on the price and area of u200bu200bresidence

Last year, my wife and I were at the carnival in Venice (Turpravda has a report about this).
In short, as it was. Go to the website of the budget airline Wizzair-Ukraine, they have the cheapest tickets from Kyiv to Venice. Last year, a round-trip for two cost 960 hryvnia. I ordered air tickets through their website, received paper from them and paid with a bank payment. You can use a card.
I recommend booking a hotel in Mestre through any booking. Firstly, it’s cheaper, you just need to look for the bus stop to Venice to be nearby. The Delfino hotel suited me quite well, stop 4.4-B opposite the hotel, there is a grocery market on the ground floor, next to the hotel Abyasadori (in the next house). Decent modern hotels. The bus takes a maximum of 10 minutes to Piazzale Roma, from there along the canals and on foot wherever you want. All this is written in my report.
I recommend in a search engine (any) to type "Carnival program in Venice", get the program hourly throughout the carnival and select the time to visit it.
Buses in Mestre and Lido are paid for on a single ticket with vaparetto (water trams). I took travel tickets for them and did not bother my head.

Sorry, I didn’t see that you are from Russia. It’s convenient to fly from Ukraine with Wizzair, but you also have good search engines for air tickets, including low-cost airlines. It’s not a problem to buy tickets yourself.
