hotel reservation: payment in cash upon arrival

Good afternoon! I'm going to spend my holidays in Rome. I booked the hotel myself through booking.com. The hotel does not accept cards, only cash at the counter upon arrival. Can I provide confirmation of the reservation of this hotel when applying for a visa, or should the reservation only be guaranteed (prepaid)? Thanks!

we bought a cruise from a breezeline company and signed a visa support agreement with them (visas for Italy) And now they require us to stay in a hotel recommended by them (expensive and inconveniently located). This is explained by the fact that the Embassy allegedly issues visas only under this condition. How to be in this case? thank you in advance for your help
