Should I take a tour of the Vatican?
ItalyRome
I'm going to Italy with a bus tour. In Rome 1 day, travel time July 20th. Is it worth spending 43 euros on an optional excursion to the Vatican. I’m afraid that I won’t see Rome either and they’ll drive it through the Vatican with the speed of the wind?

Your concerns are well founded. Of course, the Vatican is very interesting, but it may not be worth sacrificing a tour of Rome for the sake of this excursion. Impressions can be mixed up and the information will be forgotten.

+1 to Zabugor :-) I refused the tour :-) firstly, I'm a so-so connoisseur and I can watch a dock movie about the Vatican.
secondly, a 15EUR bus runs around Rome 24 hours and stops in ALL interesting places: got out, looked around, sat down and went again ...
take a map and choose what you WANT to see in Rome and take such a bus on the Internet. for 15 euros arrange a GORGEOUS excursion for yourself

Thank you very much for your advice.

I agree with all previous answers. One day for us is ROME itself, and then running is barely enough. And the Vatican and St. Peter's Basilica, taking into account the queues, is almost a whole day. So leave the Vatican for next time.

We managed to visit the Vticane and see Rome, but the route was developed in advance according to data from the Internet, except for the Pantheon, we saw all the main attractions: St. Spain with stairs, boutiques, Trevi Fountain. Time from 11 to 17.

Cool. I have a bus tour. Time in Rome is limited. I will know that if 5 hours then I will have time.

Did you walk around everything on foot or on a tour bus? Did you take tickets to the Vatican and the Colosseum on the spot or did you take excursions from bus guides? Or did you travel on your own?
аватар diana7dg
From the station to the Vatican by metro, and from the fountain to the station too, the rest is on foot. In the Vatican, the line, although long, moves quickly, in the Coliseum they also stood for a bit. All tickets were taken on the spot. The trip was independent from Rimini by train.

Diana! You haven’t even seen a hundredth part of Rome. I wouldn’t mix a tour of the Vatican and running around Rome. Read my report on an independent trip to Rome. If you don’t find it, I can reset it, tell me E-mail in my account.

Alex45, everyone has different financial capabilities, I can't afford to come to one city and walk around it for a week. I came to Italy, maybe for the first and last time in my life, and I am very pleased that in a two-week trip I visited Rome, Venice, Florence, Milan and rested by the sea. Another time, my finances were enough to see Dresden, Berlin, Munich with an overnight stay in the Alps and Neuschwanstein Castle, Prague for 3 days. This is the only way I can afford to see Europe.

1 day is enough to get an impression of the city. The roundabout bus tour is great.
The specificity of promoted tourist cities is that more than half of the sights there are dummies promoted for tourists. Galeries Lafayette and the Montparnasse tower in Paris, the Prado Museum and half of the squares in Madrid, the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona... So I support Diana.

I answer TS. Firstly, they will be in Rome on a bus tour, where they will be placed, most likely on the outskirts of Rome. Getting to the Vatican is time, standing in line is also. Especially since you, Diana, came from Rimini by train and could get to the Vatican before the arrival of organized excursions, which is why I advise the vehicle to leave the Vatican for now and go through Rome on its own or take a ride on Turbas.

And keep in mind, this will be the month of August, all Italians take vacations and leave the cities. There will be a spec in Rome.

Thank you. It will be July 20. We will be brought to Rome - a sightseeing tour of Rome is included in the price of the tour, but we will travel by public transport. The hotel is probably on the outskirts. My budget is small, so I would like to spend money wisely.
I would be grateful if you send me your itinerary

This is my tour. So far, I have 100% decided that I will go to Venice. I am thinking about electives in the Vatican and Pompeii

We will go to Rome at night from Balaton, and it will not be clear how free time there is. Where is the hotel and how is the accommodation too

As for your decision to go to Venice - it is correct. But. I looked at the prices for the excursions offered to you - they are doubled. Taking into account your wishes for a budget trip, I give approximate prices (I was 3 years ago). From Lido di Esollo there is a regular bus to the station of water trams (which carry both to Venice and the islands (Murano, Burano, etc.) The cost of a bus ticket is 6 euros (it takes about an hour), the cost of a ticket on a tram to Piazza Sv .Marka - 16 euros. The cost of an independent visit to the Doge's Palace is 16 euros, the entrance to St. Mark's Cathedral is free (inside for 2 euros you can go to the famous golden icon of all saints - this is optional). It takes about 5-7 minutes to walk the mark, there are signs everywhere. If you prepare in advance, you can wander around Venice on your own for 2-3 hours and see a lot. EUR 1. If you want to sit down - at least EUR 2.50. So I recommend to sit and relax on the street near the fountains, and in the cafe to drink and eat STANDING!

Thank you so much, I didn't expect so many people to respond.

I gave you information about Rome on how to travel on your own and about the routes of Rome sightseeing buses. You need to go to Venice, I also went there on my own, however, all electives from tours are promotion for money, especially in modern times. Here are my two reports in Turpravda in Venice with a photo, find and read. Be sure to go to the Internet, find a site on vaporetto (water trams). If you will, demand clarity from the company in everything, many suffer from these misunderstandings.

By the way, in Rome, a cup of coffee for 1 euro at the counter also works.;) This is the rule for the whole of Italy. As for the hotel in Rome, they may refer to the fact that the partners have not yet given the exact location.
аватар alex45
Yes, congratulations, eventful trip! In Rome, you are unlikely to be accommodated in a hotel, rather there will be a bus stop somewhere on the outskirts, from where you need to get to the center of Rome and proceed from the availability of time before departure. And this is after a night move! Cool!!!
Further along Naples, I would recommend on my own either to the island of Capri or to Sorrento (by no means Pompeii). In Bari, on my own in Alberobello (Trulli town) or, if religious, the relics of St. Nicholas.
Once again, I recommend that you go to our "forum", there are a lot of reports, both on organized and independent tourism.
Make friends with Google maps, on which you can lay routes both on foot, by public or by road. There is such a thing, a yellow man, when you lead him along the route, he shows a video or photo panoramas of the place where he is located.
And lastly, there is still time, read on the Internet about the places where you will be, if you decide to travel on your own, it is better, if possible, to copy the sheets you need as a guide.
аватар alex45
Yes, tickets for transport are sold at newsstands, and tickets for Turbasy are also there.

PS if instead of the Vatican you still go to the sightseeing tour of Rome by local transport, agree exactly where you will meet so that you will not be lost like me :-) But, to be honest, I don’t regret for a minute that they lost me :-)) the main thing , do not get flustered
аватар tamila
And vaporetto tickets can also be bought at newsstands (in any case, where to buy tickets for public transport, check with your guide or locals). various. For example, you can get to St. Mark's Square with three stops in 30 minutes, or you can go there with 8 stops in 1.30 hours (although you will ride between the islands, but you will lose time). So alex45 is right - the logistics of movement need to be built in advance .
аватар alex45
And in addition to tamila.
From Lido di Ezolla goes vaporetto number 14 from Sabbioni to S.Marco (Zaccaria). Walk to the Rialto Bridge, then ride vaporetto number 1 along the Grand Canal, seeing the beauty of the Venetian palazzos, and back to Lido, not to be confused with Lido di Venezia. Leave the gondolas and boats for the next time, No. 14 will take you through the Venetian lagoon past Murano and Burano.
аватар alex45
Vaporetto tickets are sold at every pier, so
that this is not a problem, just explain at the box office that you, for example, for a day, since there are various options for different prices. In short, there is a site where there are prices and a vaporetto schedule, I didn’t find it quickly, I’ll find it, send it to Mail .
And one more thing. In Italy, and especially in Venice, there are many of our workers, so if you speak loudly, they themselves will come and help.

Thank you all so much for great advice

Definitely not worth taking a tour from Accord for 43 euros. They ran through the Vatican. No emotions, no time to be imbued. Alas, my bus tour left me no choice. We arrived in Rome late. Itself was no longer worthy
аватар j2010
Vatican frankly disappointed :(
аватар j2010
The guide was bad :(.
