I am planning a trip to Italy on a visa-free basis for a couple of weeks. How strict is passport control? Do you need insurance and an invitation?
Hello. I am planning a trip to Italy on a visa-free basis for a couple of weeks. How strict at passport control, I am flying as a private person, not on a tour, do I need insurance and an invitation. Thank you

Basically, if they ask about return tickets and hotel reservations, they rarely ask about insurance.
They ask selectively, they can skip it without questions at all.
My friend with whom we traveled to Greece was asked about tickets and the availability of money, they didn’t ask me anything

Thank you. Round-trip tickets, money, I’ll just live with friends and now I’m thinking whether I need an invitation and insurance.

Insurance is made not for border guards, but for themselves. Spare 10 euros for your own safety? Weird approach...
It is advisable to have a printed hotel reservation (you can book, print, and then cancel).
We flew two weeks ago - none of the four were asked about anything, but it’s not necessary once in a while. Better to be safe.

It’s clear about insurance. But it’s better to make an invitation or not ... Although I understand that passport control is different for everyone.

I have never traveled by invitation, only as an independent tourist. For the last three years, nothing has been asked anywhere.
For your own peace of mind (and training for future independent travels), you can make a travel plan, book hotels (with free cancellation) and print. You will be calmer that there are supporting documents. There are a lot of our tourists in Italy, so the border guards have long been accustomed to them.

Thank you. Yes, I traveled a lot, it's just the first time I'm flying to Europe, that's the questions))

Why make fake reservations when you can make a legal invitation? A simple letter (attached to an e-mail) in Italian from your friends is enough, indicating their passport details and the address where you will live .. This was done by my friend who was going to visit her relative in Florence.
