Sights of Netanya - memorial "Wagon"
The Mediterranean city Netanya is called the Israeli Riviera and compared with the Azure Coast. Many immigrants from France live in Netanya. French Jews open small coffee houses where you can relax with a cup of coffee with croissants or other pastries... Netanya also has many immigrants from the countries of the former USSR. That is why in Netanya there is no language barrier for Russian-speaking tourists. In Netanya, as in all cities and towns of Israel, the memory of the victims of the Holocaust is reverent. In Israel, they know firsthand who made the most significant contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany. Therefore, in Netanya in 2012, the Victory Memorial was opened in memory of the Red Army soldiers who liberated the Earth from the "brown plague".
2 years later, next to the Victory Memorial, a carriage was installed in memory of 6.000, 000 Jewish victims of the Nazis and their accomplices. This is one of the many wagons that were used by fascist non-humans to transport Jews to concentration camps during World War II. This is one of the few wagons that have survived to this day...
The wagon was discovered in Germany last year. At the initiative of Rami Dotan (Israel) and Tatiana Ruge (Germany) and with the money of sponsors, the car was purchased, restored and delivered to Israel. The Municipality of Netanya, headed by the Mayor of the city, Miriam Fairberg-Ikar, ensured the implementation of the project on the territory of the Yad Le Banim complex. On January 27.2015, a solemn ceremony was held in Netanya dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust and the opening of the Ha-Karon (Wagon) memorial. The Mayor of Netanya Mrs. Miriam Fayerberg-Ikar and Chief Rabbi of Netanya Rav Kalman Meir Bar greeted the participants and thanked the sponsors and organizers of the project. The sponsors of the project were awarded certificates of honor. Vladimir Shmykov, a resident of Russia, was the first to receive the diploma, having made a significant contribution to financing the work on the creation of the memorial.
Students from the Netanya Ort Gutman School, who took part in a trip to the Holocaust sites in Poland in October 2014, spoke about their impressions of what they saw. The school choir and the city dance ensemble took part in the cultural program.
At the end of the event, the Yizkor prayer for the victims of the Holocaust was read. They also remembered the victims of manifestations of anti-Semitism in our days - the victims of the terrorist attack in Paris, among whom was the father of one of the students of the Netanya school. Then candles were lit and wreaths were laid. This was the end of this by no means the most fun event. But such is life - those who do not remember the past will not have a future...
Every tourist living in Netanya and wishing to visit the Memorial can do it on their own (in group tours in Israel visiting the Memorial is not included). Walk 45-50 minutes from the central square of Netanya "Kikar Ha'atzmaut". From the central bus station to the Memorial, you can take bus number 7. It stops in front of the Victory Memorial, which I told about visiting " target="_blank">here
