The rooms are clean, the mattresses are not comfortable. The room had 3 rooms, settled opposite the main restaurant. At night in one room it was very noisy, the music from the bar interfered, in the other it was much quieter.
The food is delicious, for breakfast sausages, cold cuts, eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes. Lunch and dinner 2 types of meat, fish, noodles, rice, grated cheese, a couple of salads, there was moussaka, hummus, tomatoes, cucumbers. From fruits for breakfast oranges (whole), for dinner - watermelon. Water lunch and dinner - paid. There is nothing to eat for a small child, in the morning they cook milk porridge with rice, mega sweet and densely sprinkled with cinnamon, more like a casserole. The soup is not tasty.
The attitude depends on the tip, as it seemed to me, they always left 1 euro, on the 3rd day they realized that this was very little). We bought fruits at the Lidl supermarket. There is a queue at the restaurant, you have to wait at the entrance until you are offered a seat.
The deposit for the remote control is 10 euros, they forget to warn about the tourist tax, which was paid upon check-out and were unpleasantly surprised.
There are almost no people on the sea, which is great, but due to the fact that a stone slab goes from the hotel to Rethymnon right at the entrance to the sea. Through 4 hotels in the direction of Rethymno you can find the best entry, the plate starts a little further. The beach is not large and small pebbles. It makes sense to look for other beaches.
Nearby there is a bus stop (buy tickets in a souvenir shop) and car rental.
I really liked the bay of Balos, Gramvousa, the Venetian port of Chania, Rethymnon and Santorini (it is better to take for 2 days).
The beach is sandy, not very wide, entry into the sea in some places is nothing, and in some places it is very rocky - with boulders, but you can move to the right or left and put your umbrella anywhere. Sunbeds and umbrellas are paid, so it makes sense to buy your own if you are going for a long time. The water is clean. There are few algae, no jellyfish, small gray fish swim in the thickets near the shore. Rescuers periodically appear on the beach, especially when it is stormy and whistles drive everyone back to land. However, during a storm, it’s really scary to swim, because. there is a rip current that drags you back to the sea.
Meals - a buffet, the assortment is not so big, but everything that is tasty and fresh! All booze and even soda is poured only by waiters. Fruits and vegetables - according to the season. For children, you can also choose something - for breakfast there were always cereals, scrambled eggs, muesli, yogurt.
Wi-Fi is paid, but in any shop or restaurant across the road it is free. In the administrative building there is a billiard table and a slot machine for children - the cost of a token is 2 Euro at the bartender. From entertainment - twice a week a concert of national dances and music - or evening discos at the bar in front of the hotel. If you take All inclusive, then some of the drinks from the menu are free in the bar, the rest is paid.
Summary - you can go!
The audience was different: Germans, British, French, Lithuanians, former. THE USSR.
The beach is small. The water is purest. There are a lot of hedgehogs - either look under your feet, or buy slippers (in a store across the road 4 EUR). On the last day of rest, some cat marked a bush near our terrace - it smelled powerful : -)
Near the hotel there are supermarkets, cafes, car/moto/bike rentals, bus stop. An hour walk to the Venetian harbor in Rethymnon. By taxi (10 EUR) 10 minutes.
We did not buy excursions: we managed perfectly with a rented car. The rent cost 150 EUR for 7 days (well, + gasoline, about 2 EUR per liter).
If you have any questions - write, I will answer.
Nutrition.
We had breakfast and dinner. Cooked tasty and varied, especially dinner: several types of side dishes, meat, fish, salads, delicious desserts, pastries, fruits (oranges, melon, watermelon). Cook Armenian Gregory. Drinks at dinner are paid. We dined at the tavern opposite the hotel. Well, very tasty! The portions are huge, you can take one dish for 3, cocktails and freshly squeezed juices are just class! We still remember. Lunch cost an average of 30 - 40 euros for three.
Entertainment.
There is no entertainment in the hotel. Cretan evening on Thursdays. Two Greeks and two Greek women are dancing. As a person directly related to the choreography, I put "2". The dancers look at each other's feet so as not to make a mistake, there are no smiles, 4 dances and all are the same. Everywhere they distribute advertisements for the Cretan evening in Heraklion. I looked at the photo and decided not to go - the same amateur performance, a little better. You can go to Rethymnon to have fun. 5 km. by taxi, 10 euros.
Tours are expensive. Next time we will take the rights and rent a car.
Sea.
The beach is sandy, small, you can't play outdoor games. Shizlong 2 euros. The entrance to the sea is not very convenient. You have to go over the stove. Bought slippers for swimming 4.5 euros. The sea was clean, no jellyfish, no garbage, just fish. Good beaches in Rethymno. We were lucky with the weather. It was 26 degrees.
Atmosphere.
Both in the hotel and in the city, the atmosphere is friendly. Everyone is trying to understand and help you, smile, say "hello" and "goodbye. " It seems like you have been waiting all your life!
I want to go back to Crete!
Crete left an indelible impression in our hearts!
We have combined comfortable accommodation in a hotel and numerous excursions.
We rented a car for 3 days, made a route in advance, and saw many beautiful places. Mashiga was rented in a rent-a-car about 100 meters from the hotel. In 3 days we managed to see: Spili, the Gorge (unfortunately, I don’t remember the name), Chania, Knossos Palace, Festus, Gortyn... I can’t remember everything, of course, I could have ridden more, but I wanted to “feel” each memo.
There are no comments for the hotel. Purely. Cosy. The food is excellent. Zero entertainment. The pool is very small. but the sea is 2 steps away. The entrance to the sea is not very good. because right next to the shore is a natural plate. We rested a little to the left along the beach. Sun loungers, umbrellas were paid (since we had HB, for AI it was free).
In general, we were very pleased with the rest! What do you want : )
There are quite a lot of people, especially of retirement age, to catch up with them is another task : ) Although along the way we just took a lot of pictures and had to stop often : ) After passing the gorge, we went to the sea, boarded a boat and ended up in the village where the bus was waiting for us. A very tiring walk, especially for physically ill-prepared tourists. But the sea of impressions!
We also visited the island of Gramvoussa with Klados. A charming place, with an old Venetian fortress, an abandoned ship on the rocks in a turquoise bay and incredible views of the Balos lagoon, where we also swam! The scenery is advertising-ideal. The water is transparent like a mineral water in a bottle, warm. The sand is slightly pinkish. In general, beauty. A ticket for a group cost 10 euros. If you come individually, then 22. This is only beneficial if you are by car, getting by bus is more expensive than with an excursion group.
Our third trip with them is the Palace of Knossos.
To be honest, it's better not to drive like that. There are a lot of groups there. You can calmly cling to someone and listen to everything. We rented a car for only 3 days, and this is not enough. By the same car, you could safely come to Knossos and learn no less. In addition, our Russian-speaking guide was a Greek who studied Russian for several months in Odessa, and it was clearly not easy for him ...It was especially difficult to understand the questions. Although I will give him credit, he tried very hard.
We rented a car from the Traffic agency, it seemed very decent, and we were satisfied! Looked not all of course, but enough! I especially note Elafonisi and its pink sands. They are really pink. On the beach on the island. Prada is not as my imagination drew when reading this inviting phrase in the booklet. But so the shore has a shade. The places are very picturesque, so I advise you to visit. It's even better to check the weather.
We got on a very windy day and it was a bit uncomfortable to get out of the water. More specifically, it's cold.
Agios Nikolaos. Wonderful, cute cozy little town! With a small lake and very cute ducks : ) A few kilometers from it is the town of Elefterna. For 10 euros trips to Spinalonga Island are offered. Although already floating in the bay, we saw the road along it. It was possible to take a ride and get on the boat to the same Spinaloguena, I think for a lower price. The island itself is interesting, although after learning its history, it became clear that it was rather gloomy. Once there, as well as on Krtta itself, there were Venetians, there is also a fortress. But since the beginning of the last century, for 50 years there was a leper colony there. It's amazing how people with leprosy lived there in complete isolation, although you can swim to the mainland (Crete, just compared to the size of Spinalonga Crete - the mainland) without any problems!
The place is not bad, but I would advise instead to go to Vai beach, where we never got to, and about which I read that the Bounty advertisement was filmed there ...
In the same area, I really enjoyed the trip to the Lassithi Plateau! The plateau itself is a plain among the mountains, surrounded by a ring of roads along which small villages are located. Quiet pleasant ride. But the most interesting is the museum on the way to the plateau. There is only one way, it is difficult to get lost. The museum is called Homo Sapiens. Dedicated to the history of human evolution. It was interesting to see a rocket and a small monument to Yuri Gagarin there. I really liked the mills, of which there are a lot!
A few words about food. I highly recommend trying the octopus. Grill. In the town of Rithymno there is a small tavern Larenzo (LARENTZO), where this same octopus is served whole. Delicious!
Greek coffee. I am a complete non-coffee lover, he struck on the spot.
Moreover, in cafes by the sea, it is not so tasty, so in mountain villages! Therefore, when traveling by car, I was not too lazy to have a coffee in different village taverns. There, in addition to a delicious and aromatic drink, you can also just watch people. Cretans. After all, it is difficult to see them among the crowds of tourists in hotel towns : )
Spinach Pie! This is amazing! Still warm and crispy! With or without coffee, you can't help but love it! : )
Not far from Rethymno there is a beautiful lake Kournas. Of all the travel agencies, only one offered a trip there, and now, having “stealed” the idea, we went there ourselves. Probably I have already used the word wonderful many times, but how else can I say it here! Among the mountains It is large and clean, with turtles living in a corner among the seaweed. These turtles have very sensitive hearing. It's incredible how they feel the sounds and don't want to be photographed. True, I did manage to shoot one; ) There are also geese on Kournas. White and grey.
And they swim and come ashore in separate flocks, apparently not relatives; ) If you have time, you can also rent a catamaran and a kayak there, or just lie on a sun lounger.
About monasteries. There are a lot of them in Crete. Likely at ten we stopped by. They are open at a certain time, but it’s hard to say if it’s true, since we were on time. The monk, alone, was seen only once. Apparently, they lead a rather reclusive lifestyle. Perhaps this is correct . . just a little unusual after our ...
The most famous Arkady. After the service, at which there is practically no one, a bus arrives and a few minutes ago a quiet courtyard and an empty temple turn into a zone of excursion lectures and camera flashes . . Unusual and a little sad contrast.
Not far from Arkadi there is a pretty village of Margarites, where you can buy ceramic souvenir amphoras.
I won’t say that there are bargain prices, but if you wander around, you can find cheaper ones. There we talked with one grandfather, from whom we bought several liters of real homemade olive oil. Grandfather lives in a quiet outback, but speaks English well and knows about some events that have recently taken place in our country : ) By the way, I never thought that olives on trees are so bitter!
There is also a wonderful pointer to the ski resort nearby. We were told that there is snow from January to June. Of course we went there. There was fog, which after turning completely disappeared, revealing incredible beauty. After the next turn, it started to rain. As a result, we didn’t manage to see the lifts, the asphalt road ended and we decided not to go extreme on the dirt road and turned back. But the path itself through the fog along the serpentines was cool!
Visited a Cretan evening at the White Lady tavern.
A very decent place, it is already 20 years old. Such a Cretan family business. Cretan dances did not impress me, but sirtaki was fun to dance : )
Chania. We spent the evening there, on a noisy shopping street and then in a cozy quiet restaurant. Former capital of Crete. Very interesting maritime museum, in the port. A collection dedicated to the history of navigation, models of ships and boats is presented. It is a pity that it was not possible to come a second time.
Well, as for a simple beach holiday, the plant lay on the trestle beds for 3 days, after which I wanted something more active : ) The beach near the hotel was good. I can't say anything more. If someday I have to be in those parts, I would stop in the Agios Nikolaus area.
Have a nice holiday everyone. Crete is a wonderful place. Worth a visit at least once : )
about the hotel:
The hotel is located on the first line. A few minutes to the sea.
But our rooms (apartments) were a bit away from the main hotel area. 2 2-storey houses, 2 rooms per floor. The room is clean. With a balcony. We didn't use the air conditioning, it wasn't hot.
We ate HB, breakfast was not very good. Better with dinner. But they serve olives only for lunch for all inclusive tourists. It is very strange not to eat olives in Greece! Once they were filed at our insistent request, but this did not happen again!
Sun loungers, as elsewhere, are paid, 5 euros for 2, well, and an umbrella. Didn't swim in the pool. Looks small.
Bottom line: Nice, quiet, relatively inexpensive hotel. Ideal to live in this and travel by car. It would be cooler, it would be a pity to go on trips; )
The pool is very small (large jacuzzi), there are no more than twenty sunbeds near it. The beach is also small. The entrance to the sea is not convenient. About a meter from the shore, a breakwater begins. You need to climb it like a step. Its width is about 10 meters, slippery and overgrown with algae. It is better to have swimming shoes.
In general, Crete is a wonderful place. It's very beautiful, people are nice, food is delicious. . . In my opinion, it's better to relax in Chania. The city is beautiful and closer to other beauties of the island.
