The main advantages are:
- location (there is a place to wander around, conveniently located to start traveling by car around the island);
- cleanliness of the territory;
- large and well-groomed territory of the hotel;
- most rooms with sea view;
- clean beach and sea, there is where to snorkel;
- the presence of various entertainment on the beach (canoes, catamarans, boats, water skis, jet skis, etc. , some of which are free);
- friendly people and staff;
- the desire of the staff to help (special thanks to Anna and Yulia at the reception);
- a bungalow where there are not so many neighbors;
- good sound insulation (in a bungalow);
- a wonderful selection of alcoholic drinks at the bar, delicious local wine (including in the main restaurant);
- a wide range of food in the main restaurant, including a variety of local dishes, and a decent quality of this food;
- Possibility to choose an a la carte restaurant for dinner;
- good guys in the animation group, evening entertainment programs;
- a good and not very expensive spa (wife used);
- good tennis courts;
- the presence of a washing machine in the hotel (free use);
- Free large parking next to the hotel.
Of the minuses can be noted:
- indeed, the main part of the beach is not very large, but "our" people are also to blame, who run before breakfast (some manage to take sunbeds in the evening);
- rather high prices for "extra", but we did not even find the need to buy something "extra";
- slightly outdated rooms for 5 *, but not critical;
- empty mini-bar in the room and non-replenished water in the room;
- bad juices (if you can call them that), it remains to drink water or sweet carbonated drinks (from soft drinks);
- the inability to take a kettle and iron in the room;
- if settled in a room with two separate beds, then the staff will not puzzle over a replacement, they will simply offer to lay a blanket under the bed and then after your prompt));
- no Wi-Fi in the rooms (very bad! );
- little security around the hotel (there was a case with a drunk guest, guess what nationality : ), so the security did not even come to calm this bad person).
Conclusion on the hotel: quite a normal hotel in terms of "price-quality". If you want better, then you should choose the same Grecotel Creta Palace, but there is no all-inclusive system and it will cost more. It should also be borne in mind that the hotel has about 70-80% of vacationers with children of different ages, and if you eat without children, then do not expect peace.
1. Mostly Russian vacationers, Germany and a little Ukraine
2. The staff is responsive, polite and speak Russian well, everyone understood us personally.
3. The cuisine is excellent, everyone will find something for themselves, whether you are a vegetarian or not
4. The beach for the lazy with beer is really crowded, from 7 in the morning all the sunbeds are already in towels and there is very little space on this beach, but
having risen 50 meters up and down you will see a beautiful beach with free sunbeds, although at first there is a city beach where sunbeds cost 7 euros, and after 10 meters the beach is again from the hotel. Some are upset that there is no water, beer, ice cream
on this beach, but the hotel staff brings cola, fanta, water here, for a beer, of course, you have to walk 50m.
5. Animation for children is not bad, for adults it is boring
We liked everything, the only negative is that with so many children you can catch a rotovirus, as happened with our neighbors, but thank God everything went away in a day, how lucky!
3) Side Sea View number - one name. They gave us a room with a view of the terrace of our own building, where people walked and looked into our window, on the right from the window there was a view of a wasteland with stones, and only somewhere far away through another building the sea was visible : ) They asked to change - they offered a bungalow on the first floor overlooking the same wasteland... returned to the previous room.
4) Check-in: we arrived at the hotel at the beginning of 11 in the morning, we were told to wait a bit and they would take us to the room... we waited about 3 hours, we only spent at one in the afternoon, after I almost quarreled with them “they say, how long can you wait? ” there was an excuse - something with the key... well, just say that the check-in is from 2 o'clock, why lie?
5) The food is good, of high quality both day and night, but there is not much variety. We tried duck only once a week, seafood - generally beef, only squid in an amateur sauce and tasteless hake-type fish. Someone wrote that there are shrimp, but we didn’t get it : )
6) Restaurants - those that, apart from the main one, are generally for profanity. To eat, you need to spend 2.5 hours, serve a very long time. Asian - HORRIBLE and SHAME!! ! Salad - leaves and pieces of crab sticks, a ball cutlet - also from the same crab sticks, sushi - I have never eaten such nasty things anywhere, only rice. They feed better in eateries, we didn’t wait for dessert, we left...
7) Housekeeping - horror! The towels were never changed in a week. The mirror in the hallway was just like that with a layer of dust on which I ran my finger at the beginning of the rest. Tipping basically did not leave! By the way, it was annoying to change beach towels every 2 days from 9 to 10-30 in the morning... we forgot all the time (((and this is the Grecotel level! .
On arrival we were met and settled almost immediately, at 12.00...
They gave me the most luxurious room, overlooking the beach and the village. They brought a compliment to the room - fruits and champagne, the whole room was covered in flowers and candles (very nice).
There are no questions about nutrition at all, everything is there.
I really liked that there is animation, but no one gets you, go play there, go do that.
Not a bit embarrassed by a large number of children
We rested in this hotel from 02 to 12 June 2013, a family with a child of 11 years old. Tour operator Mouzenidis Travel.
In terms of service, this company is really at the highest level. Starting from meeting at the airport, settling and up to seeing off at the airport, when the representative waits until the last tourist is registered and only then leaves. The tour guide service at the hotel is unobtrusive, excursions were offered and everyone was told, but no one insisted or bothered. Informing about the departure and any other information is timely, in advance, right in the room, you don’t have to run around to find out,
As for the hotel itself - a beautiful large area, very clean. Very thoughtful architecture of the hotel, basically all rooms with sea views, even if the side in some rooms, but the sea is visible from almost any room. Nice lobby with sea view and balcony terrace.
Service, food, drinks, service - all at the highest level. Very welcoming, friendly staff.
Loved the Greek a la carte restaurant, worth a visit. Italian is also good.
The main restaurant has a lot of food and changes every day. The menu is very varied, you can always find food for every taste. Wine for lunch and dinner is served in bottles of 375 ml, which is very convenient. The wine is of very high quality. The only thing is that the juices are very diluted, sometimes they just resemble slightly tinted water. And we had a very small selection of fruits.
There is a Greek tavern on the beach where you can dine, they make grilled dishes. We went to have lunch there.
In bars, the choice of drinks is very large and good, imported alcohol. They make delicious cocktails.
Very clean and well cleaned in the rooms, even if you do not leave a tip.
We were settled in a family room in a bungalow, 2 rooms, although we ordered a standard. There was a side view of the sea and access through the terrace directly to the pool, on the first floor, but this is to some extent even more convenient.
We had an early check-in at the hotel, so we had to wait a bit until the room was cleaned, but at that time it was possible to sit quietly in the bar or have lunch, there are no problems with this.
There are a lot of Russian-speaking tourists, probably 70-80 percent, so the staff even speaks a little Russian with them, at least at the initial level, almost everyone speaks and understands this, and if one of the tourists does not know English, they can still explain themselves in Russian .
BUT... a lot of small children, just an incredible amount. We have been vacationing for many years in different countries and in very good hotels, but I saw so many children for the first time. At the end of the holiday is already beginning to strain very much, it's true. Without children there are no families at all or couples! And children from 3 months, literally and years, up to 6-7 years, the bulk. It is very annoying who has already moved away from such children. Therefore, I would not recommend this hotel to single couples or with teenagers. It's boring for teenagers, there are only a couple of slot machines for 1 euro, billiards for 2 euros for one game and 2 tables for small tennis. We did not see any club for teenagers, as they write in the description of the hotel. Maybe in the higher season. Animation as for me is weak and mostly only near the pool.
And the main disadvantage is that the beach near the hotel is unrealistically small, and very densely crowded, sunbed to sunbed. There is never a place! We go to the sea early but still. probably at 7 in the morning you need to borrow, if not earlier. And again, a lot of children on the beach, which really can not be passed. Before the trip, we read that there is another beach, and it really is there BUT there is a private area and sunbeds with umbrellas are paid (7 euros for 2 sunbeds with an umbrella). We mostly went there because it is quieter and there are more places and there are few children. By the end of the holiday, on our last day of stay, they seemed to be bringing in sunbeds with mushrooms from the hotel, but we didn’t find this.
The sea is very clean and mostly calm. Both beaches are fenced off by boulders, so there is practically no wind there. At the beginning of June the sea was a bit cool the first days. But we lived right next to the salt water pool, we often went there.
As for Crete itself, the island is beautiful. We rented a car and planned our own itinerary and sightseeing.
In conclusion, I can say that I would recommend the Grecotel Network, the service is really worthy. But not this hotel because of the huge number of children and a small uncomfortable beach.
In May, the beach was not as crowded as in summer, and there were fewer children in the hotel than the rest write, so they did not bother us. In general, if there are good hotels in Crete, then they are filled with either children or old people, so whoever likes what more). And of course, in order to enjoy your vacation, you need to take a car and travel in Crete. We traveled around the island for 6 days out of 10, we really liked it and were delighted with this beautiful place on earth!
We saw a lot of reviews about dirty dishes, leisurely waiters - this is not true.
In general, the hotel made a very pleasant impression on all of us.
We lived in a building above the tavern (it seems), near the pool with sea water overlooking the sea. Room 775, third floor. As for me - the best option - two rooms, sea view, beach, bars, playground, and the main restaurant itself - everything is nearby.
Beach: consists of three parts - if you stand facing the sea, on the left side there will be a large beach that stands on a hill - about five meters above the sea, near it there is a descent into the water to a wild beach - it is inconvenient to lie there - stones, places are not very good. a lot, and it’s difficult to enter the water because of the stones. Although once there swam. The second - and the main beach for me - on the right side, near the rental point for jet skis and other water stuff. By the way, not cheap - jet ski 15 min. / 50 euros. The beach is comfortable - a good entry into the water, a sandy bottom and all that. To the left is closed from the waves by a stone ridge, so it is comfortable to swim. Even further to the right (but it is inconvenient to go there along the coast) there will be a local beach, and behind it - another beach of our hotel. But they went there just to look.
The beach is clean, when by the end of my vacation many compatriots from the CIS arrived (after all, most foreigners lie by the pools), wars began to occur because of the sunbeds occupied in the evening and the locals had to deliver another line of mushrooms with sunbeds.
There are about six pools, two of them with sea water. Two swimming pools, at the very top, in the suite area, one with a children's slide.
The choice of products is very large, a lot of seafood, and mussels and king prawns and other seafood delicacies. My husband doesn't like it very much, but I was pleased. But you can feed anyone without any problems.
Wine at lunch and dinner in the restaurant is served in bottles of 0.35 - ordinary wine, but you can drink it. In bars, the choice is much better and the quality is at the level. Beer can be poured at once in many places independently.
There is no freshly squeezed juice - only in the main restaurant (with a lot of pulp), it is better not to drink from vending machines (like coffee).
Lovers of good coffee need to go to the bar - there is excellent coffee in Greek (I mean in Turkish).
I won’t say anything about adult animation, because I’m not fond of it, although from time to time I saw all kinds of aerobics, archery, volleyball, ... Children’s animation is normal. Not the same, of course, as in good Turkish hotels, but without serious flaws.
Before the trip, I read reviews of 10-15 local hotels and noted for myself that 90% of them, as for me, are weak. Although the reviews always had a leitmotif - this is not Turkey for you, people come here to travel. But for me, a normal beach holiday is also relevant. And with this, as I understand it, in many hotels it’s not very good - either the room is so-so, then there is no beach, then food, then there are problems with children’s animation.
There are no problems with this here - a good hotel, at the level of a decent Turkish one. Service, food, room, drinks - everything is like what the Turkish all-inclusive has accustomed to. Blooming area. Very friendly staff, really nice to talk to people. Since the hotel has long been oriented towards Europeans (in particular Germans), they still do not have very good knowledge of Russian, although it is noticeable that they are learning. But even with the help of separate Russian-English words, it will not be a problem to explain yourself.
Of course, there are drawbacks - there is an old kinescope TV in the room (although she herself turned it on twice - there are 2 channels in Russian), once the drain in the bathroom stuck - they could not drain the water in the evening - someone fixed it in our absence. That's actually all.
Although, in fairness, it should be noted that many rooms overlook the wall of the neighboring building, overlooking the bushes, or the path along which other tourists will walk past you.
We went to Rethymnon a couple of times on a local bus, a round-trip ticket is 5 euros. Tickets can be bought at local shops, if anything - ask at the reception.
A beautiful city, a large fortress - worth a look.
We rented a car a couple of times - at Best Cars. If you exit the main entrance of the hotel and climb 30 meters up the street, you will see their point on the left. Maybe not very cheap - a mechanic is at least 40 euros (Citroen with 1), a normal Mazda 2 is 55 euros, an automatic is more expensive, but the cars are in good condition, and you don’t need to go anywhere.
We went by car to Chania, with a stop at the turtle lake, and the second time to Aguilas Nikolaos, and from there by boat to Spinalonga.
Beautiful place, well worth the trip. As many have already written, the cost of excursions is high, it is much easier to take a normal car yourself and ride for your own pleasure. It is difficult to get lost, there is only one main route. If anything - no problem ask the direction of the locals - very friendly people.
In the cave of Zeus were not in the Cretan Palace, too. Other tourists dissuaded from the cave - they say nothing special, they did not want to go to the palace themselves - they did not want to look at the foundation.
We thought to go somewhere else - but I was just too lazy. While others travel a lot. On the road we met one - he took a car for 4 days, and on the 5th he took a motorcycle, and rode it with his wife across half the island. We are not that extreme : )
1) good sea view
2) the sea in Crete is the cleanest
3) high-quality cleaning and bed change daily
4) the water park, although small, but the children are delighted
5) service at the bar and in restaurants for 5
6) BBQ near the sea (a service offered by the hotel) is just super.
7) animation and entertainment are good, but everything related to sports is only in German.
8) really liked the opportunity to take a catamaran and ride on the sea.
The cons outweigh the pros:
1) beach. There are no seats. For such a large hotel, the beach is very, very small. There are never any places, but we come to the sea and not to the chlorinated pool.
2) for less than 2 weeks of stay (09/09/2012-09/21/2012), the children were poisoned 2 times each (at different times), while the poisoning was such that the daughter vomited a fountain for a day, had a temperature, then did not eat for another 2 days (caused doctor). Diarrhea in children that does not go away during the stay. My husband and I have also been getting sick in recent days, which suggests that the food in the hotel is not fresh. In recent days we went to the village to eat.
3) the air conditioner did not work all the time
4) there is a Russian PR manager at the reception... just the height of rudeness and lack of tact
5) the pools are not clean (in the evening, when illuminated, it is especially clear that the water is cloudy) I have a pool in a private house, I know for sure that the water should not be like that.
6) mosquitoes got it. There are no screens on the windows.
7) what is positioned "a la carte" is not much different from the buffet. Choice of 3 dishes, and the rest is chargeable.
At the end of the stay, as a control shot in the head, it simply killed that we were leaving at 12, and no one was going to clean our room in the morning, so there was no shower gel and shampoo than to wash on the road xs. I had to call the reception and ask, they brought it, asking "How many gels do you need? ))) and it's 5 stars, damn it) but they brought it at 11.50)).
I will never go there again. There were half of the children with poisoning. They save money on food. Apparently, what is left from breakfast is put for dinner. Otherwise, I don’t understand where such a number of poisonings come from.
