Help with choosing a resort and hotel?
We want to go in July - a family of 4 (children 7 and 10 years old). They gathered in Greece for the 1st time, before that they rested in the Arab countries and Russia. The travel agency advised the children to go to Crete. We offered several hotels to choose from: Themis Beach 4 *, Meditteraneo 4 *. I would like to hear advice from those who have been there. Or suggestions for other hotels, from where you can get to sightseeing places nearby.

Crete itself is small, so it is convenient to go on excursions from anywhere. Go to the website of Mouzenidis (mono operator for Greece) and choose the right hotel.
аватар olgabondar16541
Nothing like this! Crete is the largest Greek island. If you live, for example, near Chania, then getting to Elounda (or vice versa) will be very long = more than 3 hours. So, dear travelsita, do not mislead people!!! And then stop making advertisements for Mouzenidis (by the way, he is no longer a mono-operator in Greece, because since 2013 he began to do the Czech Republic too :)))

the answer for Windlina: consider hotels in the town of Gouves (then you can walk to the Cretan aquarium) or the area from the city of Agiso Nikolaos to Istron. There are very good sandy beaches.

Look at Lyttos Beach.

questions like this are often asked here. I have been to Hersonissos Maris. Read my review

Hello. First, look for a hotel where there is a so-called. Family room. This is a two-room or conditionally two-room suite. Those. the backbiters will have their own quarters. Such a number is more expensive than usual, but much cheaper than two. I don't know your budget, but just in case, a piece of advice - don't be afraid of 1 and 2 star hotels. Often the quality of accommodation in such family hotels is much higher than in more expensive hotels. More. Almost in any, even the smallest Cretan resort village, there is an entertainment center for the little ones. Carousels, shooting galleries, slot machines. But I would still recommend a city or a suburb. There is a place to go with them in the evening. And in terms of attractions in Crete, everything is really close. (Don't forget to take the kids to the Aquarium. Pretty cool for their age.) Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Found the blue bay 4 hotel. Has anyone been there? Are the reviews true?
аватар travelsita
Just beat in Blue Bay last year. Great sea view, good food. Beach 5-minute walk. Resettlement - rooms that are near large pools are more comfortable, but noisy, and a little further there are buildings in which it is quiet, but the rooms are more ascetic.
CRETE itself is NOT VERY BIG, although it is the largest island in Greece, so excursions are not tiring.
аватар travelsita
For Olgabondar16541. I answer not to you and not to you to judge my answer! You have recently registered and do not understand that this is a positive site and people here advise and help each other, and do not indicate what to do and what to write. And if someone recommends the operator they like, then this is only to help the person navigate.
However, once again, Mouzenidis has the lowest percentage of complaints compared to other operators. This can be confirmed by everyone who used their services. If 3 hours is a lot for you, then why choose such excursions? From Budapest to Vienna, too, a little more than 3 hours - is that a lot?

If Crete is not a very large island, then what is a big one? Australia. This site was created primarily in order not to mislead people! The length of Crete is about 500 km. The average speed is 40 km / h, since the roads are narrow, and you will not overtake or cross a solid one. Those. if you are located on one end of the island, then you will never get to the other.
аватар travelsita
"That is, if you are located on one end of the island, then you will never get to the other."
Really? That is, it will not work to travel from one end of the island to the other, because we will not get there!?
Well what can I say....
аватар travelsita
The length of Crete is 260 km, from north to south 56 km. I don’t see anything big. Probably, you and I have different ideas about the size of the territory. For some, land plots of 5 acres are comfortable, and for some, even 30 are not enough.
Yes, regarding speed, sightseeing buses travel at a speed of 70 km / h, not 40. If everyone trudged like that, then no one would want to attend excursions.
аватар lanos
Crete is a VERY BIG ISLAND. In the Mediterranean - the largest, but in the end use Google. Small islands - Rhodes, Malta. In the mountains, not one bus will travel 70 km / h. I know what I'm talking about. And you just deceive tourists, it is not clear for what purpose. I am very scrupulous about the accuracy of the information, just read my reviews. For me, 2*2=4, and how many times you will say that 2*2=5, I will stop it.
аватар lanos
There is such a thing as average speed. You can drive between cities at 120 km per hour, and the average speed will be 80. Any driver knows this.
аватар travelsita
Well, maybe, for some, Odessa is very large.
Did you even understand what you wrote: "That is, if you are located on one end of the island, then you will never get to the other." ? Before teaching and blaming others for who knows what, look at yourself. What is written with a pen cannot be cut down with an ax.
Be tolerant - the answers of tourists are not addressed to you at all. And when you ask questions, they will answer you.
аватар lanos
How many do not write - the last word will be mine. You wrote: "Crete is not a very big island" and misled people. What is the tolerance here? Once again, Crete is a very large island, a tourist will not travel from one end to the other, as it will take at least 10 hours of travel time alone.
аватар travelsita
It is a personal matter of the tourist whether to go or not - even if it takes more than 10 hours. Many people like it, because it's a good review. Every person has the right to express their opinion. I wish you to be more tolerant of the opinions of others. EVERYONE'S PERCEPTION IS DIFFERENT! We look at many things differently.
And about "No matter how much you write - the last word will be mine" - there are enough boors everywhere! Alas...
Then write as much as you want - after all, "OFFICE WRITES"!
аватар lanos
I wrote politely, by the way. You are disorienting tourists, and personally I am not going to leave it unattended. And there are plenty of people like you. You have no opinion, you have false information. The last word will still be mine.
аватар travelsita
Do you even understand that you write "And there are enough people like you"? or "That is, if you are located on one end of the island, then you will never get to the other."? You won't, and never will! Even if we want to.
I have an OPINION (personal, after being in Crete) that Crete is quite small, although the largest island. IMHO. And what about false information? There may be a misconception about something.
Unfortunately, I lost interest in discussing with you because of the arrogance in the form of the last word, your "pearls" and poor knowledge of the meanings of syntactic expressions. For me, the level is rather low (apparently your education let us down).
Even if your word will be the last, it does not mean at all that it will be true. The defendant is always given the last word...
аватар lanos
Your opinion is wrong. You are not a driver or a tourist. Tourists with children will not spend 10 hours on the road, is that incomprehensible? Therefore, they will not get to the other end. If Crete is a small island, then which island is big? Give an example. And stop being rude, otherwise I will answer. I didn't bullshit you. My post will always be the last.
аватар travelsita
Wrong twice 1) If I'm not a tourist, you are the same way. 2) I often go on auto tours in Europe. Sometimes there are children in groups. Last year there was a 5 year old boy. He handled the bus well and behaved well. It was night! moving through Poland from Lviv to Prague.
Do not be responsible for other tourists - if they want, they will get to the other end of the island. Moreover, the children are not so small.
аватар travelsita
"My post will always be the last one" - this is how you end all your answers. Funny. Come up with something new.
аватар lanos
You are an erratic nature, it is easier to admit that you are wrong. Trying to distract the matter from the essence on emotions. The bottom line is that Crete is a very large island. And the choice of place of residence matters. That's all. People asked you a question, and you deceived them. You have been corrected (by the way, not me), but you are arguing.
аватар Windlina
Well, the discussion broke out. Well, our children will withstand any road, accustomed to traveling by car. Nevertheless, we stopped at the place of Agia Pelagia, as I understand it, it is somewhere in the center and from there you can travel in different directions.
аватар travelsita
Windlina, I support your choice, and it's also nice that you listened to my advice. We really liked it there. In the evening you can take a walk to the village (there are shops there). The tours are not exhausting at all. Beach Tips: The earlier you arrive, the better the seats will be (on the right hand side). There are many shops and cafes on the beach itself. Prices are quite loyal. Agia Pelagel is located almost in the central part of Crete, west of Heraklion. It takes about 3 hours to one end of the island, and four hours to the other, no more. I recommend a very spectacular excursion: to the island of Spinalonga (by boat, beautiful views), then you stop by Elounda for lunch on the sea terrace, then follow Agios Nikolaos and return to the hotel around 17-18 hours. The representative of the tour operator will tell you about the prices. If you need to ask any more questions - write in a personal, I will be happy to answer.

I wish you a good rest. You will love Crete. I have never seen such pure water. There is not sand, but very small pebbles. And what to visit, how best to do it - in my review everything is accurately painted to the smallest detail, the information is 100% reliable.
аватар Windlina
Thank you very much.
аватар travelsita
Windlina, read the current reviews for 2012 (and not six years ago, although 100% reliable). A lot has changed in Crete in recent years. The concept of hotels is changing, the excursion program is also changing, new hotels and roads have been built. The airport, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired. Decide whether to go on your own or from a tour operator.
In Agia Pelagia, where you are going, the most beautiful views of the sea open from the hotels.
Good weather and a pleasant stay.
аватар Windlina
Thank you. I have already re-read all the reviews, even for 2013. I want to have a good rest myself, but also for the children to enjoy it. Thanks for the advice.
аватар lanos
Windlina, this person will not calm down. There are many representatives of travel agencies on this server. So their information needs to be filtered. They are trying to ruin this resource, this is a place for tourists' stories, not for business. I will fight them as much as I can. Have a nice rest
