It's quite real! The ferry from Heraklion (and, in my opinion, from Rethymno too) departs every day around 18.00 and at 9.00 the ferry is already there. Such entertainment will cost about 130 euros for two, if you take seats that are not of the highest class (ferries from Athens to Rethymnon and Heraklion can be viewed on the corresponding website). Well, if time is a pity, you can fly by plane. Somewhere around 250 euros for two and 45-50 minutes flight time. You can get from Heraklion by taxi to the airport for a chirp, and, say, from Rethymnon to Heraklion by bus, which run there every hour, - 1 hour 15 minutes (Unfortunately, you did not indicate exactly where in Crete you will live, therefore, as a guide, I cite Rethymno).
