I think on your own you can easily get to Agios Nikolaos, Elounda, Spinaloga Island, Heraklion the same. If I were you, I would study East Crete, since you are already going to it, you still won’t have time to see everything. In addition, there is an opinion that you should watch sunsets on Santorini (it seems like there are no such ones anywhere else). Therefore, my husband and I decided to once go just purposefully to Santorini for at least 3 days. In general, they say it very nicely there, and the reviews about the tour are also very good. But even if you don’t take it from a tour operator, it’s still expensive for me. Moreover, there are places to go in Crete, there are enough sights)))

In my opinion, there are no strong serpentines along this road and there is practically no traffic on the road. And the car certainly gives more freedom in movement)))
