It is worth taking all, or it is better to eat in cafes.
How much do lunches and dinners cost, on average, as well as alcohol. What kind of alcohol would you recommend.

If you plan to eat in taverns, then a dinner for two with wine will cost about 30-40 euros. We have many pizzerias where you can eat cheaper. The cheapest alcohol is local wine (2-5 euros per bottle), ouzo (aniseed vodka - about 5 euros per 0.5 liter) and raki (grape vodka). As for strong imported alcohol, the prices are high.

If you eat in resort towns, the prices are really high. If traveling around the island to eat in local taverns, 20 euros for two (without booze) is enough (3 euros Greek salad, 4 euros meat dish, 3 euros dessert).
аватар tatianacrete
Greek salad is no longer worth 3 euros, no less than 4.50. Meat dish from 7 euros (lamb ribs, etc.).

Can you give me the coordinates of the taverns?
Greek salad 3 euro
Souvlaki / mustaka / tzatziki all for 4 euros.
One of the Taverns in Elafonisi District. The second on the way from the Lassithi Plateau towards Agios Nikolaus.
But along the entire length of the main highway (Rethymnon-Heraklion-Malia-Sitia) there really are no such prices!

If the hotel has an ALL system, then why refuse it. And running around in search of a cheap dinner is not very convenient. You will not travel around Greece in the evening))))
аватар tatianacrete
People don't go to live in Elafonisi, they will live in the tourist area. And you still need to get to Elafonisi :)))

Thank you, and raki is the same as in Bulgaria - grape vodka 40 gr., but it tastes very cool, or like in Turkey - raki, it tastes like medicine.

I forgot to ask how much the crayfish cost and how much. How much alcohol can be exported from Greece.
аватар tatianacrete
If you are flying by charter, then you can carry anything in your suitcase. There are many supermarkets selling homemade wine and crayfish in 1.5 liter packages. The price of such a bottle of raki is about 5 euros. In taverns, raki and dessert are served free of charge after the meal.
Rakia in Turkey is RCD in Greece!

You can have a delicious dinner or lunch for 25 euros and 80 for two. But counting on a calm and not "greedy" trip is 100-120 euros for two per day, for everything, not counting car rental. My opinion. At least they didn’t deny themselves anything, and they still spent money on a child, and they rode a lot in a car. But my friend went for 8 days, spending 250 euros on a car and the same amount on the rest, without benz. I don’t know what she ate or where, but she had a great rest! Everything is relative, as always! And do not argue before leaving 3 euros or 4.5 salad, if a liter of gasoline is 1.75 or even more expensive already. And All on Crete is nonsense! Well, it’s true that if you don’t leave the hotel at all, it may be convenient, but in comparison with taverns, it’s not tasty at all.

Thank you

Good weather and pleasant experiences!

And I think that ALL is convenient in any case. No need to think about drinks or snacks on the same beach. There is no bad taste in Greece. It happens that near the hotel there is a small selection of the same cafes - so why bother?
And if you drive around the island, you won’t lose much. From experience, paying for all inclusive is cheaper than paying for lunch/dinners separately on the spot.
аватар Phansoft
Agree with Aish. But in some hotels the difference between HB and ALL is several hundred dollars. Considering that when traveling around the island you usually don’t get lunch anyway and still spend money in cafes along the way, then ALL starts to turn out to be meaningless
аватар saliani
And I insist that it is not tasty! Grecotel is the best grid on the island, even a paid dinner from the chef is resting compared to a good tavern! And they took 100 euros for two, ate a lobster next to it for 40!

It's a pity that saliani was so unlucky with the chef. But do not scare people traveling to Greece for the first time. To be honest, I have already lost count of how many times I have been to Greece - but I always and everywhere taste delicious. Both in hotels and in taverns.
Yes, for some reason no one advised max36 to Metax. Don't forget ;-) And when you buy, the more stars, the better ;-)
аватар saliani
Well, tastes differ, that's for sure. And the hotel was not lucky with the cook, but I'm always lucky. I am not greedy.
аватар saliani
Let's not hope to go into the technical process of preparing the same dish for a certain number of people. For example, for the entire hotel with an interval of 2-3 hours for everyone? Or in a small tavern? The workload of the chefs themselves? Who will put their soul into the conveyor? This is only part of the costs of the hotel business. And a small cafe can be the whole life of several families! Do you still feel the difference in taste?

Thank you for reminding me about metaxa, and how much it costs there.
аватар tatianacrete
The best Metaxa is 5 * in a narrow bottle. In the supermarket, the price is 15 euros for 0.7 liters. There is a more expensive one - 7 * Amphora, it now costs 23 euros for 0.7 liters.

Thank you, must try everything

It's a difficult question. AI - less hassle and cheaper, but monotonous. Eating in taverns is tastier and more varied, but much more expensive. In good all-inclusive hotels there are a la carte restaurants where you need to sign up - it tastes better than a regular buffet. Personally, if I am not constrained by means, I prefer to eat in taverns. On the other hand, the taverns in the tourist news are, of course, more expensive than those where the Greeks go. But you have to get to them. So, everyone chooses according to their taste.

I think it depends what time you go and what you plan to do. if at the peak of the season, then after the beach you can have an all-inclusive dinner and fall asleep peacefully. if you go now, you will be bored sitting in a hotel and you still won’t avoid eating in taverns, just for fun.

Personally, I liked to eat in taverns in Crete. Once I compared prices for tours where food was included, it turned out that you can eat in taverns / cafes. Moreover, outside the hotel, you can choose absolutely beautiful places, for example, on the seashore, among palm trees, on the terrace of some tavern. And the menu is always varied. If you prefer to have a hearty meal in the morning, it is better that breakfast is included, but everything else will tie you to the hotel (if lunch is included, then you will not really go on excursions, which is what Crete is interesting for), and if dinner is included, then you do not sit on the night terraces overlooking the night sea to the sound of waves crashing against the shore. In general, these are just my impressions, it all depends on how you are used to relaxing. We rested as a couple, so it seemed to us so convenient and more interesting. If you are a family with children, then maybe it’s easier to feed everyone at the hotel :) Don’t take it as advertising, but I also published my reviews on my website, where you can find scans of the menu of one of the taverns, in the summer of 2010. You can read, I think it will be in the subject: http://ok-tour.com/greece/crete-menu-example.html
