Cretan wine
We will be in Crete for the first time, I read that the region is famous for its winemaking, I would like to ask for advice on choosing wine - where is it better to take, which one is better to take (I prefer red, not dry), whether they allow tasting, etc. I would be grateful for any advice.

Many tour operators offer visits to wineries with presentations and wine tastings. There is also a tour of the winery itself. We had such an excursion: Heraklion - Knossos Palace - Butari Winery. We tasted 5 varieties of wine, after which the tourists made purchases.

The advice is almost not real, the taste and color ..... you can just listen to a number of comments and draw your own conclusions. And keep in mind that Cretan wine does not tolerate transportation very well. I myself prefer red dry French or Italian, but in Crete I liked white vein more, both homemade and from stores. Definitely something you need to take at wineries, but you can also choose decent options in supermarkets, I brought a couple of bottles from there too, it turned out to be not bad at all, just don’t throw yourself at wine for 3-4 euros

And after the tasting, for the sake of interest, we walked around the neighboring shops. In them, the wine that we tasted cost 2 times cheaper.

andreyvip, please explain why the advice is not real. If you have not been on such an excursion, is it unrealistic? This is a standard tour offered by almost all tour operators in Greece. And where to buy is the business of the tourist. TS didn't ask about your personal preferences.

The law of tourism is one. Through the official guide is always the most expensive, in the most remote non-tourist places is cheap

People are asking for advice on what wine to buy. But how to tell if everyone has their own taste, that's where to buy, this is another question. So I recommend listening to the comments, and not indulging in unnecessary discussions, especially since you are not the author. I wrote that I love one thing in life, but there I liked another, maybe they will have the same

I agree, through the guide of the tour operator it is at least one and a half times more expensive. In Turkey and Egypt, we always use the services of local agencies. But the price for this tour was quite reasonable.
None of my friends in Greece have used the services of local firms, perhaps not so many. And the prices for excursions were not exorbitant.

If you want to try Cretan wine, try Retsina, a very unusual, white with a hint of resin. I'll tell you straight - for an amateur. I won’t recommend anything specific from Cretan red wines, go to the supermarket and choose Vin de Crete Red, sugar content (whatever you want) and a price category of at least 6 euros per bottle. Or follow the above tips - visit the winery, taste the wines, and you can buy them in the supermarket or in the souvenir shops of Hersonissos. If you are in Santorini, I recommend trying white Nihteri wine (strong from unripe grapes) and red dessert Vinsanto (made from sun-dried grapes). Enjoy your holiday and good luck!
