Question about the airport in Crete
We will be on a business trip Moscow-Larnaca-Athens. Everything is clear to me here. Not the first time. But this time it's my husband's birthday and we want to go to Crete for a week. We will fly by local lines from Athens. I read reviews about the airport in Crete. Say queue for 3 hours and crush. Please tell me, is this situation at the end of May as well, or is it only at the peak of the season? Thanks

Last year we flew to Crete on May 27th. At the same time, 3 more aircraft arrived with us. The queue was such that it almost reached the edge of the abyss (the airport is located above the sea). The mood was hopelessly spoiled, because they thought that we would hardly get through until the evening. However, after a while, all the booths with border guards began to work and the queue dissipated within an hour. We waited 5-7 minutes for the luggage to be unloaded and we left the airport building. Don't let the crowds scare you - the main thing is that all passport control booths work. Have a nice holiday!

Thanks for your reply. And then she began to worry. What is the point of flying 50 minutes from Athens to Heraklion to sit at the airport for 3 hours. It turned out that it was easier for us to stay in Glyfada in Athens. But I want a little surprise for my husband. Thanks again

Yes, more. Don't be shocked by the provincial appearance of the airport. The terminal is small and shabby. But this is due to the difficult economic situation in Greece

We went in the middle of May. There are a lot of people, but the border control passed unexpectedly quickly in less than 30 minutes.

We were in the second half of June, we did not experience any inconvenience - everything was clear.

Were in this may, there 30.04, back 09.05. Nightmare and horror! 4-5 planes gathered on arrival, there were only two officers, the queue practically did not move, the children were crying, whimpering, people were trying to squeeze through without a queue. After about an hour, the system hung up, waved their hand and began to let them in without reconciliation, things went more fun. We stood in line for almost 2 hours.
On the way back, the same thing, huge queues for registration (Kyiv and Kharkov), again a crush, attempts to squeeze through without a queue. At the check-in, the suitcases are weighed, the luggage tape is attached, then you pick up your chumadans and bags and drag yourself to another line for control. From there, the luggage leaves for loading, and you go to the next line - passport control. Again, the same thing - two officers, slowly, slowly examining the docks. In general, it seems that the airport was absolutely not prepared for the opening of the season ...

I hope that in June it will be much more fun as a trip with a child. Well, if not, then at least I will psychologically prepare for such an extreme.

Last year we arrived at the beginning of May. There were two planes at the same time - the queue stood for 15-20 minutes. The flight back was much more difficult. There was a long queue at passport control, and closer to the end of registration, we had to break through without a queue.

Thank you, everyone! It's just that there are few days, but they haven't been to Crete. So we thought about combining work and leisure. I will think

almost everywhere in Europe, airports are small compared to ours, and there are fewer passport control booths. it depends on what time you arrive, in my experience at night everything is faster for example. but in general, half an hour in line in the off-season, up to an hour in the season - on arrival, on departure for some reason worse.
May is nothing.
