Where to buy excursions is your choice, the difference is mainly only in price.
You can ride an ATV with children of any age, and a child of 7 years old is already old enough, so God himself ordered .... What time to go is also up to you, the desert is beautiful both at dawn and at sunset, but I always recommend the sunset to my tourists, firstly, the weather is beautiful, and secondly, quad biking can be combined with a Bedouin dinner and an oriental show ...
Of course, you need to change dollars in a bank, the rate is now a little more than 5.9 pounds per dollar, exchange a little right away, 50 dollars, if you don’t have enough, you can always change more, banks in Sharm are at every turn ...

It was recently discussed about excursions and purchases, from whom it is up to you to take, but we did not notice the difference, although some argue the opposite

Do not change a lot of dollars at once (you can do it right at the airport), you will always have time in Sharm to have a lot of exchange places, albeit a little bit every day, but you can also pay in dollars.

1) We prefer to buy excursions at the hotel (from the guide of the tour operator with whom we arrived). Of course, it's more expensive. But we like the knowledge that we have done what depended on us to ensure our safety. There, insurance is included, and transport is always on the level (no unpleasant surprises with low-quality buses), and the guides do their job. But if it is important for you to save money - it's up to you! I don't blame anyone!!! Let everyone live the way they want. Just shared my experience.
2) We weren’t on this excursion, but I’ll add to Karina-Mango’s comment that on the evening trip we were also offered to admire the stars through a telescope. We never went. But the sky in the desert is something! I would love to look through a telescope without riding ATVs for money! Again, who cares... And in the photo of the tourists I saw simply fabulously beautiful landscapes of some kind of white desert, where fantastic sand figures are visible, as if you are on another planet... Only, it seems, it is very far from the resort places.
3) If for souvenirs, taxis and drinks, 300 dollars may be enough. But if you are planning a few more excursions, then look at their prices in advance. Or ask the experts.

On an ATV with a child, be extremely careful!
Frequent cases that there are no brakes. Or they get a taste and drive without feeling whether there is a passenger in place. (there was a case in Hurghada - the husband lost his wife and did not notice when. It's good that the Bedouins found at night and provided first aid)

As for insurance, do not believe in the deception of hotel guides, you do not buy insurance from TEZ, nor from PEGAS, nor from INTOURIST, but you insure yourself in an insurance company and pay money for it, so you can re-read the insurance conditions 1000 times and not you will find there an item that insurance does not work if you buy excursions from a non-tour operator.
Your insurance always works, except for alcohol intoxication and chronic diseases....

Yes, dollars are also "in use" there, so don't exchange the entire amount for pounds. And in general, I recommend this about souvenirs: during your vacation, take a closer look at what they generally sell. Think about what you would like from this. But postpone the purchase at the airport (on the way home). It is much cheaper there than in the resort area, and the assortment is richer. But at the airport you need dollars, not pounds (if I'm not mistaken).
Although, if you have a gift for bargaining, and unhurried dialogues with sellers are to your liking, then you can buy it on the spot at a normal price.
And, of course, it is better to buy oils (if you wish to purchase) NOT at the airport. You need to slowly smell it, smear it on your hands, then leave the store, check the aroma on your hands after 30 minutes. or an hour... If you like it, you can come back and buy it. Packed with quality. Will not spill or break. This is from personal experience.
Some hotels have ATMs. We (knowing in advance about the presence of this) took dollars at a minimum, and then filmed one more time. Of course, they will take a percentage for this. But it's better that way than shaking that there is no money left.

We have such an excursion in Sharm where you can ride a camel, and watch the sunset in the mountains, and sit by the evening fire with the Bedouins and try to bake bread on the fire yourself, have dinner, and watch an oriental show, and lastly look through telescopes at the night sky and stars. She went to see this tour 5 days ago and liked it. Remained impressed. Regarding insurance, I agree with what Karina wrote. Read carefully the insurance and everything will become clear and accessible to you. You can choose where and from whom to buy. My son has been riding a quad bike since he was 6 years old and this is his favorite excursion. But it is clear that at the age of 7 you and your child will sit on the same ATV, but believe the child and you will like this trip very much. Change money in small amounts, for example, I advise you to start with no more than $ 50, and then you will figure out on the spot what and how much you need to spend. On the first day, don't buy anything. The guide will intimidate you, listen to all the information and tell us to decide and we will contact you later.

Personally, I sometimes withdraw money from the card, no problem, the machine gives out pounds, exchange offices work in Naama Bay, in the Old Town, where you can buy souvenirs for every taste and budget, just don’t buy right away, walk around, ask the price, buy in 2 days before leaving, about $200-300 is enough for you, if without excursions, you can buy a good hookah within $50, even cheaper, maybe you will take some fruit away for $30-50, papyrus - depends on the size and quality , oil, for example, 6 50 ml bottles at the factory about $ 100, something like that. And excursions, for example, the difference is this: Tiran Island on a yacht in the city from $ 25, and from a travel agent - $ 40-60, Israel from $ 80 from locals - from a travel agent $ 200, Cairo - $ 45-50, from a hotel guide - $ 80 -100$. The savings are significant. And the buses have long been of high quality for everyone, and the guides are good, and the food is included, and they give water for free. The only difference is that, for example, on an excursion to Cairo, some other foreigners will go on the bus, because. There are few Russian-speaking tourists now, and there will be 2 guides in Cairo on the bus if English-speaking people (or Italians, or Germans, or Poles) are traveling with you. That's where the difference is now.

And ATVs from tour operators cost $35-60, from local ones - from $20, and there is no difference at all for this excursion. Only in price. Now it's better at sunset, and the truth, as karina-mango said, can be combined with dancing, and with a telescope, and with camels.

I agree with Karina, we also like quad biking just closer to sunset
it's still an unforgettable sight
sunset in the desert...
well, plus a show and dinner with the Bedouins and stuff ...
experiences that you will remember for a long time

Chera returned from Sharm el-Sheikh and I want to share my experience of a trip to Israel, organized by a local travel agency. The bus to the border with Israel was very inconvenient, the seats do not fold out. But these are all trifles. We were brought to the Dead Sea without a guide (there was only a driver). The place is absolutely not comfortable, the locker room is dirty. And the 100 Arabs who filmed us were poking their fingers. The organizer of the tour did not take into account that on that day a large group of Palestinians with their own ideas of morality were resting there. The local representative of the travel agency, a certain Sheriff, did not even come to apologize.

Cool... Thanks for sharing!

What company did you travel with?
Interesting even...
аватар Krasotas
So you took a tour not from the tour operator with whom you flew, but "on the street"?
аватар nadin65
irishka7 - please write the name of the agency from which you traveled.

Stayed in Sharm at the beginning of December and had a very unpleasant excursion experience from city bureaus! We bought a quad bike tour for 16 hours, which was supposed to last 3 hours. As a result, they came to the hotel for us, and it took 5-10 minutes to go from the hotel to the place of the excursion. in the end we went to the hotel, which is located further from the airport (our hotel was in the naama bay area, a 15-minute walk). Our guide did not speak Russian at all. Arriving at the hotel, we were supposedly waiting for another 2 tourists, somewhere in half an hour. As a result, without waiting, we went to the mountains. We were barely driven through the post, located near the turn to quadrics. For some reason, we were immediately taken to the Biduin camp. Where they usually stop after a ride for a while. My friend has ridden quad bikes more than once and knows where the start comes from. Coming out of the car, they immediately asked where were the quads on which we would go, to which we were offered to drink tea as our quads had not yet arrived. And when asked how long we would ride, we were told - 1 hour. To which we were very indignant and left upset. As a result, our minibus followed us for 15 minutes and asked to get into the car. We left without a ride and spending $ 50 just for nothing.
