5 days in Prague, which hotel should you choose - Prague 1 or Prague 3?
I wanted to be closer to the center and the main objects do not want to overpay, but to be within walking distance.

Take 1 or 2, spend less money on the subway and time. 5 days is not enough to spend on transport.

It all depends on the financial side, if the hotel is much cheaper, then 3 is possible, the main thing is that there is a transport hub nearby.

For the first time in Prague, we lived in a hotel located in Prague 5. There were 3 or 4 tram stops to the Wenceslas site. The tram stopped 50 meters from the hotel.
See the map. District numbers can mean anything. The main thing is the proximity of public transport stations and bus stops.

We have been several times in the 3# Ibis old town hotel, next to Republic Square. The old town and Wenceslas Square are approximately the same, about 10 minutes on foot, it is, as it were, in the middle between them. Next to the next building is a huge shopping center Palladium. Very close to the tram and metro, Not far from the train station and bus station Florence (on foot), from where we independently traveled to Karlovy Vary and Dresden. The hotel rooms are small but very clean, good breakfast buffet. I recommend.

I also stayed at Ibis Old Town***. Great location, especially when there are few days. The fewer days, the closer to the center you need to choose.
If for 20-30 days. then you can not stop in any district, enough days to explore the whole city.

Prague 2, or rather Vinohrady - the most successful area to live in Prague, IMHO. The entire center is within walking distance, but it is very quiet, and housing prices are much lower than in Prague 1. I recommend the Arkada 4 * hotel or other hotels in the area.

In Prague, public transport is excellent, exactly by the minute. I advise you to look at the route of tram 9 - this is a kind of tourist number that passes through Wenceslas Square and has a daily traffic interval of up to 5 minutes. And at night, a night number goes along the same route. If the budget is limited, look at the Zizkov district, where apartments can be rented at reasonable prices, and it takes 10-20 minutes to drive to the center. And food (cafes and beer) is cheaper than the center. Look between Olsanske and Lipanska stops four stops to the center.

Tell me the name of the hotel in Prague 3, let's see how convenient it is)

Living in the "right place" in Prague, you can not use public transport at all.

Thank you very much for your advice, all very useful and necessary according to the time is very short and I don’t want to spend time on transport, especially since the days are short, I looked at the City Center 3 * Hotel, although the reviews are not very good, but the center is within walking distance and this outweighs and the price is right. Tell me it’s worth going to Krumlov in winter, in the summer of 2012 we didn’t manage to have an excursion for 1 day Prague.

We were at the beginning of March. The town and the castle where they are delivered are very pretty, but this is not quite the tourist season, and it's cold, just walking along the streets can be uncomfortable. You decide. If it's your first time in Prague, it's better to take a walk around the city, museums, and pubs. Not to mention shopping, it’s hard to walk past numerous shopping centers and shops, the prices are very good, and even better in Dresden. But if you go to Czech Krumlov, you won't regret it either.

Thanks for the advice, but did you go to Dresden yourself or on an excursion? The experience of independent trips is very small and I want to not think about anything, but just admire the Christmas beauty. I would like to talk about shopping, but if you choose between what to see, then I’d better see it and I’ll decide a little time locally. And why aren’t all castles open in winter?

To Dresden by bus, the cost is almost the same as an excursion from Prague. We came with a tour, walked a bit with a survey to remember and went for a walk ourselves, we were in the gallery last time. The weather was bad, so we wandered into the shopping center, of which there are a lot in the center. The center is small, you can make a route, read on the Internet. Shopping impressed, from inexpensive youth to normally expensive. I don’t know for sure about the castles, there are open ones in winter, but they wanted to go to the homeland of Lyudmila wine not far from Prague, so this castle with tastings and sales is closed in winter.

It is very convenient to go to Dresden by rental car - one and a half hours one-way road, we took a car and drove to Bastei for 2 hours in the morning, the nature there is awesome. In the remaining time, we managed to walk around Dresden and go to the gallery, and when it got dark, we went shopping. We managed to return before the closing of the car rental - before 20:00, we managed to see and do a lot) we rented a car at the RUNWELL car rental, they have an office right on the radial highway from the center towards Dresden, we drove out of the city for about 15 minutes in total.

We are not friends with the car, we will have to go on an excursion, I really want to get into the gallery. Tell me the gallery is included in the tour and where did you take the tour?
аватар Natali_NN
In winter, only private castles work, state ones are closed for economy, it is very expensive to heat castles. Still, go to Krumlov, we didn’t go, but our friends went, the impressions were excellent, I liked the pictures (I regretted that I didn’t go), it was in January.

http://www.euroholidays.cz/ Before the trip from home, we ordered excursions from them twice. They bring you directly to the hotel at the agreed time, then they take the money. Everything was clear. In Russian. But, in principle, in Prague there is a travel agency at every step in the center, people with signs stand and walk on Wenceslas Square and offer, on the bus, combined groups from many travel agents, departure in the morning from the museum opposite the monument. The prices are almost the same for everyone, the guides are good.

The gallery (entrance) is not included in the tour. After the tour, you can go on your own in your free time.

Thanks for the tip of the tour desk, I looked in Krumlov, I will definitely order from the site there, on my dates, the castle is still open, and in Dresden it will be visible on the spot.

We lived in a hotel right next to the Charles Bridge, we didn’t use transport at all, all the sights are within walking distance.

Given the accuracy of the Elegant trams in Prague (+ - 30 seconds) you will get to any point in Prague with great pleasure minus some number of crowns, of course.
Therefore, you should count before settling near the center.
