Little is officially required. Everything is described here:
http://kyiv.usembassy.gov/application_procedures_ukr.html
The list of documents is described here:
http://kyiv.usembassy.gov/general_application_package_ukr.html
The ds156 form must be filled out on the website here: ( http://kyiv.usembassy.gov/visa_download_ukr.html)
In my experience, despite the fact that they say that the call as such is not needed, it is still better to make it - you need to ask your acquaintances in the USA to write a letter in free form in which they describe where you know from, what your relationship with them, why they invite you, etc.
In addition, I recommend collecting as many documents as possible confirming your interest in returning back to Ukraine. This includes copies of property ownership documents, car documents, business documents, if any, etc. It is required to prove that you do not live badly here, but go there just to see the country.
In principle, the people of Kiev have no problems with visas, in my opinion. This year, the US visas for the whole family were renewed, since the previous ones (also 5-year ones) had already ended - the interview lasted 10 minutes, no more. However, I heard more than once that people from the periphery are denied visas.

I applied for a US visa, collected all the documents on real estate, etc. no one even took them in my hands, despite the fact that I persistently shoved them out the window. So this is a question.
аватар Djukaster
We basically do too. But our acquaintances from Khmelnytsk were taken both documents for real estate and copies of the statutory documents for the company. Apparently, it depends on what kind of person, where, from Kyiv or not, etc.
I travel around the world all the time, including to the States every year. There was no "living place" in the previous passport. Apparently, this speaks for itself.
At the same time, Schengen was made in May. So despite the fact that there have already been trips to Schengen more than once, they still gave a pile of papers, including documents for real estate, a car, the company's statutory documents, certificates from a daughter from a private gym with the amount of payments, certificates for all credit cards, debit cards, accounts .. And that Spanish embassy thought for a month and a half until they got calls from Madrid.
In this regard, it seems to me that getting a visa from the States is not a problem at all - sign up, pay, bring everything they require, talk for 10 minutes (having stood in a long queue) and you're done.

Spain is a different story. And in the States I received a visa in a clean passport (the previous one had just ended), so I tore out all my worthwhile visas from the old one, but no one looked at them either, and as a result they gave me a multivisa for five years. So that the "secret" is still not clear to me.
аватар Djukaster
Yes, there is no secret. States refuse ONLY obvious defectors, especially those with a residence permit in Western Ukraine. For example, Chernivtsi is simply on their black list, as the city with the largest number of defectors.
At first, I myself received a visa - immediately for 5 years, went there for 3 years, then they immediately opened visas for my wife and daughters - we were also asked if you could get 5 years at once? We didn't mind :) Ie. potentially, the whole family could sit there. Flew with them to California, returned. They flew more. Then, when the visas expired and the passports were changed, they went to open the second round. Again they opened it to everyone, including my son, who was only a year old - again for 5 years. Again, the whole family with visas - in the potential we can stay. But why? In addition, according to the questionnaire, they see: every 2-3 months we fly somewhere, and we always return. So we won't have any problems. That's the whole secret.
But there are other "personnel" - there is no certificate from work, there is no salary, there is no property, there is no money in the bank account, and there is no account itself, the passport is empty, he lives somewhere in the village in the outback, why he travels - he cannot explain. Would you suspect anything?
аватар jabetta
Why is it strange, it is in relation to me: a clean passport and no documents have been looked at. For me to this day it is a mystery, they are probably great psychologists there. Although I know cases when people really wanted to go see the country and spend money, but a visa have not received.

People, but I really want to get out of this Ukraine. Already in the subconsciousness it is laid down "to dump", "to dump", then where, with such a subconscious mind, to ask for a visa to the United States? It is written on the forehead .... irrevocably !!!!
And there are no documents on the property. As in the above, I am one of those still "STAFF" ... The car and office real estate have already been sold, so that there is something to leave with. The only thing that is most expensive is the daughter and part of the living space. So what kind of visa is it? And the stamps in the passport are standard 3-4 Egypt 1-Turkey and Tunisia-ALL!!! And how will they give a visitor visa, so what? will you settle down there if you are in constant so-called running...

To natglvk: In America, it's very difficult to be "illegal" now, and then there are practically no chances to legalize yourself. My friend went there as a guest 17 years ago and never returned, so she still cannot legalize herself, she has already tried all possible options. And this, despite the fact that she already gave birth to two children there - 8 and 13 years old. So also not travel abroad at all. It is legal to travel to any country. In general, it's up to you.
аватар natglvk
But of course I agree that, by and large, you need to go to any country legally. Well, then everything would be much easier ... If someone else suggested just how to do it .. But in different countries, you can see different laws. I have acquaintances in Spain, then, unlike the USA, how was the same legalized ...? Arriving only as tourists ... and after some time, in my opinion, 3 years, something was muddied .. That's why I'm interested in THIS PROCESS regarding the states.
аватар Djukaster
I can tell you about Spain - literally last summer I left my family there for 2 months to rest.
People come legally, get any job through acquaintances and leave. Monthly they transfer a certain amount to cover the tax and a year later (in my opinion!) they receive a residence permit.
However, something else is more important: natglvk, when and for how long were you in any normal EU country or in the States? Are you sure that all the roads are paved with gingerbread? I can assure you - in the same Spain, the problems are higher than the roof. Friends told how a Latvian builder won an apartment in the lottery at his construction company in Spain at cost price (that is, he still has to pay the bank for it, but 3 times less), but was left without a job and left for Latvia to there to earn money to pay off a loan for an apartment in Spain. I have a classmate in the States with a 94th illegal immigrant, a builder, now he is out of work, he would be glad to return, but then he won’t be able to go anywhere even as a tourist.

Further, every year I travel around the world on business. I was only in December in France. I won’t say that I liked it very much. In the same Italy or Germany, I like it an order of magnitude more. let's go to the States. I took her and her daughters to California for 4 weeks. They had a culture shock and anti-shock. A lot of interesting and positive things. But at the same time, the police are on every corner, all sorts of prohibitions, there is simply nowhere for children to walk on the street without parents. We stopped at the PCH on the way to Santa Barbara near the 911 machine - our 2-year-old daughter urgently needed to pee. After 2 minutes, the police already arrived for us. , and then you will sue us for slippery floors.
At the same time, in Spain, on the contrary, somehow on the highway the police got on their tail and started to cut us and everyone around just like that, for fun, for no reason, to goof off anyway. In Madrid, at the airport, three Euro-stooges hurried to the flight, pushed so that she broke her lip, stupidly stepped over the child and did not even come up to apologize. Then he came up on the plane, promised a "reception" upon arrival. So they later apologized to my wife while I was sleeping.

And finally: according to my own observations, those who are successful here in Ukraine are successful everywhere. Changing your place of residence does not solve your personal problems at all. A lot of acquaintances after moving to the States, Israel, Germany, Canada, etc. found themselves in an even worse situation, since they expected Paradise on Earth there, but ended up in absolutely alien conditions for them.
I have a mother-in-law in Germany, my wife's aunt/uncle in Israel. Her cousin and sister are in the States. We ourselves help some of them with money from time to time, living and having a business in Ukraine.
What I want to tell you with all this is that we are also thinking about how to change the country where we live. But the reason here is rather the ecological and psychological climate. Not finances at all! Our children are constantly sick here. "There" by the sea or the ocean, they always recover. Now in Ukraine, starting a business from scratch and successfully promoting it is an order of magnitude easier than in Europe or in the States, where everything has been grasped for a long time and the level of competition in all areas is simply unrealistically high.
So I would recommend driving around and looking around first. You may not like everything there.
And the last thing - with financial stability, there are no problems with visas and entry into any country, believe my many years of experience.
Good luck!

Thank you Djukaster! I am grateful for your advice! They did not do business outside the "cordon", it is difficult to judge about this. I also agree with the fact that active people will break through everywhere. But there is one "BUT", as for me, regarding the future of our children and our old age ... in Ukraine? Will our Ukrainian state be able to provide us with retirement age..and again, I repeat, our children..? Is it in Germany, Spain, France, the USA ... somewhere ... not calmer in this regard. Yes, I don’t argue, it will be VERY hard ... but then in a year ... maybe we’ll break through ...
аватар natglvk
Yes .. of course, I think there are people in Ukraine and not a few ... who have a hereditary hyped business, who may have close relatives of the rich .. so let's say we don’t have that. And how to start a business from scratch with us ... we already we don't know! It might be worth a try. My brother is in Spain, although we don’t communicate very much, he left, well, maybe 1000 euros were in his pocket, and this is 1, 5 months of residence, even just a rent .... for 6 years there and took his wife with a small one. It was difficult, and now it is not easy, but there is enough for housing, food, the main thing is that the crisis ends well. So what level! I didn’t recognize my nephew .. a completely European boy, a lot of friends, the joy of holidays around the city ... GO! And then he was there and he didn’t have enough to travel in the trolley bus forever with his parents and with us ..... he shot! How are we now .... A classmate - in Bilbao (Northern Spain) does not want to return here .. also bit by bit, over time ..... True, this is about the majority of our people ... about the poor .... otozh and think, what the hell is not joking
Anyway, all the info is important THANK YOU!!!

I started my business unexpectedly for myself. Whoever told me this 10 years ago would not have believed it. In the fall of 2001, my wife went on maternity leave, and then, after 2 weeks, the company where I worked was closed. 150 people were on the street in one day. As a result, we have on hand her salary, mine and my vacation pay. The apartment is rented, no one helped, because everyone had it even worse. Then I told my wife - I'm tired of plowing for my uncle, I'm fed up, we'll take risks. She later admitted many years later: she was very scared! But she didn’t get under her arms, she didn’t interfere. Six months later, the first client arrived. We just had minus 300 dollars and 20 hryvnias in our pocket. This is to your comment about the hyped hereditary business. It was not there, everything is real on their own strength and health. Now I am engaged in information technologies (programming, computer graphics, computer games). Biologist by education, in the past 12 years worked as a musician-arranger. You just have to believe in yourself and be a little crazy, the rest will follow.
