About Ukrainian Stonehenge and the real "Embroidered Way"
The next morning we meet at the children's forest camp. This is clearly to rejuvenate! What fresh air here in the woods!
We finally had buckwheat for breakfast. Finally, because I was waiting for this trick every morning. And fortunately for me, he was not there before. And here is buckwheat. I do not love her with all the fibers of the soul and not them. But there was nowhere to go. So, for the sake of the "Embroidery Way" project, I'm even ready to eat buckwheat =)
The first point of today's route is the village of Kuty. It used to be a rich and large village, but first, during the Napoleonic battles, cholera came here, and then the First and Second World Wars. Currently, only 300 people live in the village. Many houses are empty, many are already falling apart.
The village of Kuty is included in the route through the ancient wooden church of the Archangel Michael, which was built in 1697.
This is a wooden classical church. It currently belongs to the Lviv National Gallery of Voznytsky. The church used to be decorated with icons and paintings, but now they are in Olesky Castle.
The tour of the village was conducted by the priest Stepan. After St. Michael's Church, he invited us to the Church of the Mother of God.
This church is only 50 years younger than the previous one, but it is still functioning and is the only one in the village that receives parishioners.
In this church, local students arranged for us a real Ukrainian meeting with towels and embroidered shirts. It was very cool! At first we unwrapped the Easter towel in front of us, and we thought it was long.
But then they unwrapped their towel with the logos and names of all the village councils! And here we are already surprised! A towel about 30-40 meters long, it could wrap the whole church!
After a warm welcome we went to the city of Brody.
This city has been listed in historical records since 1086 and has always been on the border. Initially on the border of kingdoms, principalities, and now on the border of 4 regions. In the past, 75% of Brid's population was Jewish. Here are the ruins of a huge synagogue in the city center. Brody was even called "Galician Jerusalem".
There is a castle here. Rather, the fortification walls and the palace among them. It was built in the shape of a regular pentagon and was built by a French architect. During the Napoleonic battles, the castle was taken and destroyed. Unfortunately, now all this is in a deplorable state.
Employees of the Department of Culture and Tourism are trying to support the castle, introduce new programs and events. Festivals and evenings take place on the territory of the castle. And in the palace building there is a school, archive, exhibition hall.
But the most memorable today is the Dominican monastery and the stone in the village of Pidkamin.
In a small village there is an amazing place - in the middle of the plains is a huge stone. There are, of course, many legends about its origin. One of them is about how the devil brought a stone here to throw at the settlement, but the stone was so heavy that he did not have time to bring it to the third rooster. And so the stone remained. And now it's called the Devil.
And now this huge stone stands in the middle of the valley and offers a magnificent view of forests and fields. It is called the Ukrainian Stonehenge.
There are crosses around the stone and from the side they look like a single composition.
Previously, a small monastery stood on top of the stone. Now there is an empty canopy. We could not resist and climbed to look at the valleys from a height. You can climb the stone, there are stairs. But the rise is not for the faint of heart. But what a wonderful view from there! This is definitely worth seeing at least once!
And next to the stone is the Dominican monastery and caves. The monastery was also defensive and has stood here since the 17th century.
The cave is not long, but huge!
This place we really remembered and liked today!
And after a busy day we were deliciously fed in the restaurant "Impulse". And comfortably settled in "Filvarok".
