First time we want to visit Istanbul?
First time to Istanbul?
All good. In Turkey, not for the first time, but all beach holidays. We want to see Istanbul.
That is, as I understand it, plane tickets and hotel reservations.
Troubled questions:
1. how to get to the hotel from the airport?
2. Advise the area of the city with the most convenient interchange, shopping, parks, attractions.
3. Can anyone orientate the names of inexpensive city hotels?
4. Where to eat if it's not all inclusive anymore.
5. Where to buy a travel card (I remember about moving in Antalya - there are only travel cards on city buses. Payment to the driver does not go through.
Thanks for the advice.

Look for a hotel in the Laleli region, where they are not very expensive, shopping, almost all sellers understand Russian a little. By tram along Ordu Cd. ten minutes drive to the Grand Bazaar, and from it to any sights on foot for thirty minutes. In Sultanahmet - only on foot. In the center, sometimes faster on foot than by car - personally verified. You ask if you want to Istanbul, I will answer - yes you want to Istanbul!

You can take a taxi, the calculation is in lira according to the meter. They can also dilute for the same amount in euros or dollars, don’t give in, the driver will start to “run into” - say the word “police” in any language, but with a smile and a phone in your hand. But this will not happen to you, I’m sure. Good luck !

Good afternoon. We were in Istanbul last year in October. Purpose: sights. Shopping was limited to a walk through the market, including an express train through the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian Market. We got from the airport to the city center by metro and tram. Tickets are bought from the machine. Take your time, decide in advance how many tickets you need and set the number after inserting the bill. The rate at the airport is extortionate, but everyone knows that. But even there you need to go through the exchangers and choose the best one.
We lived in the Grand Naki Hotel. Walking distance to Sultanahmet. Liked the hotel and staff. Helped me in a very uncomfortable situation. Food is no problem at all. Of course, we visited the area of fish restaurants, but a little expensive. If you want a trip around the Bosphorus (I recommend autumn), find the Bosphorus tour. He's on the waterfront. At the tour desk, the price is about 50 euros, there is 50 lira. Feel the difference. If you want to clarify some details - we can Viber, than I can help.
Have a nice holiday!

I will support you in choosing a hotel in the Sultanahmet area, we stayed at the Best Western Citadel, part of the hotel is built into the old wall of Constantinople, we were specifically looking for a hotel so that almost all the main attractions of Istanbul were within walking distance.
In 5 days we visited without the cost of public transport: Topkape Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and other mosques located in Sultanahmet, Basilica Cistern, Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, Mosaic Museum, Museum of History and Science and Technology, Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Church St. Irene, Grand Bazaar, walking in the Ggyulhane park
Transport was spent on Taksim, Dolmabahce Palace and Valens Aqueduct.
I recommend to reduce the cost of visiting the museum and access to museums without queues for tickets to buy Museum Pass Istanbul, this card includes free admission to many museums. The card was bought at the box office of Topkape Palace, but it can also be bought online.

Friends who, like you, were worried about food, lived at the Artefes Hotel, also in Sultanahmet, everything is also within walking distance, breakfast, lunch and dinner are included there. And one of the hotel's restaurants is located on the open terrace - the roof of the hotel overlooking the Sea of Marmara.

Grand Tahir and Dallan are bed-and-breakfast hotels in Laleli. Quite normal.
