Good time of the day. We decided with friends for the first time to make a trip in our car from Ukraine (the city of Dnipro) to Turkey (the city of Alania) for the New Year holidays 2018-2019. This is not the first trip abroad, but the first on its own. Need help choosing a route. there are two options:
1 option:
Through Odessa (Chernomorsk) on the ferry to Istanbul.
Option 2:
through the borders of Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria.
We are not limited by time, we want to lay an interesting route. Interested in the subtleties of passing the border, toll roads, through which cities it is better to go, etc.
Share your experience, who has already been on a similar tour. Thanks in advance

Aren't you afraid of snow-covered passes? My opinion (been driving since 1985) is that in winter such a route will not be a rest, but a torment.

If you go to Romania via Chisinau, there will be no serious mountains on the route, except in Bulgaria. But there will not be many interesting things on the route either.

I would take the ferry if I were you. You can go crazy - you can cut through Moldova and Bulgaria, there won’t even be any interesting cities along the way, except for Chisinau.

I am inclined to the second route, somehow on New Year's Eve and the Black Sea, suddenly there are storms or fogs. You can get stuck!
Mine went to Greece, the same Odessa, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, then to your left, and to their right. So we left in the morning and spent the night in Romania, on the second day we were in Thessaloniki.

"...to Greece..."?! but...))
and for some time now many have been demanding to use the preposition "in" in relation to Ukraine ...

Thanks for answers. Are there other options that I haven't considered? Interested in the nuances of crossing the border? How difficult and long is it? Do I need any documents other than biometric passports and a Green Card? Thanks in advance.

I explain for haber-x.
The route "to Greece, to Turkey, to Ukraine, to Russia", you can often omit some words in correspondence (route, for example). Read a little lower - "spent the night in Romania, were in Thessaloniki." So, I don’t violate the canons of the Russian language, and if you don’t know and “require” something from you, I won’t say anything!
Learn the great Russian language, it can come in handy when traveling, Ukrainian is unlikely!
Tanya P! From Odessa, I drove along the road to Reni (not to Reni). The road is good, the travel time was reduced.

Thank you, Alex45 ;)

Yes, I missed the word "foreign / foreign" here to the word "travel". I'm sorry!

Why make it so complicated ... On a plane ... and there ...
аватар alex45
Some people like to drive their own car and survey the surroundings. I include myself and my children in this category. We think that this is much more interesting than depending on public transport!
veritasana! Have you tried this way or is it you, without trying it, do you think so? Did you rent a car upon arrival?

"Survey" the surroundings - is it a gesture ????
аватар alex45
I could write here "to inspect the surroundings", but I wanted to write in such a way that it was a little humorous!
It turned out that here they are also interested in the Russian language, but the topic is how best to get to Antalya by car, but there is nothing to say !!!

Regarding the comment "Why make it so complicated ... On a plane ... and there ..." ... so we have already flown sooo many times. Undoubtedly, SO is much faster and not so costly in time and effort, but there are a number of "BUT":
- we saw nothing but Sabiha or Ataturk;
- if 4 people are flying, then the price is significantly more expensive (by plane), since prices have soared in comparison even with last year;
- We plan to go for 3 weeks and want to ride around Turkey, go to the mountains. And if you rent a car there, then the cheapest one is $30 ... that's $600 for 20 days (I indicated the prices based on the experience of resting in May ... I think it would be cheaper in winter, but I doubt that it would be much cheaper);
- I want to see other countries, albeit in passing;
- and in general, I want to test my strength, to understand how difficult it is (for me personally) to travel on my own.
аватар Olgaolga153
- In addition, with this type of recreation, it is possible to choose small hotels away from the "tourist trails", where the price tag is not jacked up, the food is decent and there are no crowds of people.

"how difficult it is (for me personally) to travel on my own." Nothing complicated! The roads are quite normal in Turkey, and in Bulgaria, and even in Romania, it is more difficult to get to Dragobrat by car, not everyone will pass.

Hello, tell me please, how was your trip? Can you tell us more about the route, what were the difficulties along the way?
аватар t.bolotnaya
Good day . At the moment I am collecting information for a similar trip (by car) next year (2 adults and children. 10 and 14 years old)
We want to visit many attractions in Turkey, so the option by plane is not suitable. We don’t consider the ferry for the same reason that the author of this post stated: there is a desire to at least casually see both Moldova and Bulgaria (we haven’t been there before). I don’t get tired of driving. Everyone has bio-passports.
Interested in the following questions: do I need visas to any country on the route? Are there toll roads on the route? Are there recommended hotels on the route (verified, corresponding to the concept of price-quality balance)
Thank you in advance
