February is a good season in Phuket and Koh Chang. If you are interested in excursions, then, rather, Phuket is better. If the sea is not at all interested, you can go to Pattaya, but this is not for everyone.

I planned first Pattaya for excursions, and then a vacation on the island, but preferably on the best island, where everything is like in advertising pictures, and not with dirty beaches, etc.

The best Thai islands are almost without civilization, far from everything. On any other island, you need to carefully choose the beach. Don't even expect something like in the Bounty ad, this is not Thailand. In Phuket, Kata and Karon are not bad, but in general, nothing special - sunbeds in a row, light brown tourists with loud swear words.
Very beautiful beaches on the islands of the province of Krabi (for example, Hong), but they do not live on them, but swim there on excursions.
If the plans are Pattaya first, then it makes sense to go to Koh Chang to relax, from there to Koh Kood, there are good beaches.

I would recommend going to Pattaya, where you can combine excursions with a beach holiday on the nearby islands for 10 days, and then go to Koh Chang for 4 days. We have already traveled almost all of Tai and after that we rest mainly on Chang. Not very far, good beaches, not very expensive, few people and beautiful nature. We do this order of rest in about 70% of the programs and all tourists are very satisfied.

here is one of the latest programs approved by tourists:
09.01. Arrival, accommodation, adaptation, meeting with us at 19:00.
10.01. Sightseeing tour of Pattaya, crocodile farm (individual, free) from 10:00 to 16:00
11.01. Buddhist voyage, from 8:00 to 18:00
12.01. Holidays on the island of Koh Lan (on your own)
13.01. River Kwai and Erawan Falls, departure at 04:00
14.01. River Kwai second day, return at 21:00
15.01. Holidays on the island of Koh Lan second beach
16.01. Bangkok, from 7:00 to 20:00
17.01. Sea safari around the islands, from 8:00 to 18:00
18.01. Khao Kheo Open Zoo, from 10:00 to 15:00 (individual)
19.01. Koh Chang, departure at 4:00
20.01. Koh Chang second day
21.01. Koh Chang island, return to Pattaya at 21:00
22.01. Shopping, preparation for departure
23.01. Departure
So the tourist visits 4 islands and 2 beautiful beaches on the mainland, alternating this with interesting excursions, the set of which can be changed at the request of the tourist.

Good afternoon! When I went to Thailand, I also faced the same problem - how to combine a beach holiday and sightseeing. As a result, we went from the tour operator ITM group, which offered 7 days on the island of Koh Chang and 4 days in Pattaya. There is amazing nature on Koh Chang, in my opinion it makes no sense to go there for 2-3 days, because. a one-way trip takes half a day, until everyone is collected and transported (it took us from 12.00 to 18.00), if you don’t have time to enjoy your vacation, you will have to leave. Pattaya - definitely only for excursions, we went to the Nong Nooch tropical garden and to Bangkok. In general, We were satisfied, in my opinion - this is the best combination. Look at the ITM group website, they have a lot of combinations.

In my opinion, there is no point in going on an excursion to Bangkok from Pattaya, just wasting time. It is much more convenient to plan Bangkok on its own immediately after arrival or right before departure, with an overnight stay, with an evening cocktail at the Baiyoke Sky bar or dinner on a boat on Chao Phraya. And not one day, but two, and you can still visit Ayuthaya from Bangkok.
