We live in Thailand for half a year. Therefore, the accommodation options are very well known to me. Meals in local cafes, and not in restaurants for "farangs", are very pleasant, tasty and, indeed, not expensive :) Rent a house (townhouse) 2-storey, area not less than 120 sq.m. in a resort town like Cha Am, 3 bedrooms with air conditioning, 2 bathrooms, though without a pool (sea - 5 minutes) can be from 15-17 thousand / month. For 6 thousand you can rent a house like "Bangallo" on Koh Phangan (which is next to Koh Samui) - quite realistic, for 15 - a great house on a small but very beautiful beach. We are used to relaxing in comfort and choose Koh Samui from the islands. Flight from BKK - 100 USD Bangkokair, (Air Age flies to Phuket from $ 20, the Lompraya ferry to Koh Samui is twice as expensive).
