LISBON. TOUCHES... Part 2. A little about the sights and not only))
When there is not enough time to get to know a new city (country), you have to determine for yourself the very best, and the rest will come sometime later : )).
And how it all began can be found in the story "LISBON. TOUCHES… Part 1. Almost a love story”
Saint George's Castle
Although I promised that “without physical overload”, but I could not help conquering one height - this is the castle of St. George.
Yes, this is a grandiose building dating back to the 6th century, having seen both the Romans and the Moors, having been both a royal residence and a prison. But it attracted me with its strategic location for a time-limited tourist - the whole of Lisbon is in front of my eyes! Touch…
Won and the April 25 Bridge with a statue of Christ (Cristo Rei) on the opposite bank of the river. Tagus
Commercial Square (Praç a do Comé rcio)
Figueira Square and the roof of Rossio Station
Martim Moniz Square
And even the longest bridge in Europe - Vasco da Gama Bridge - can be seen
Yes, and in general, it is very beautiful and romantic here
And there are also malicious extortionists of food - peacocks.
There are many of them, they are everywhere, they produce their "trills" and fly. Yes, yes, it’s a very unusual feeling when a tailed carcass “soars” past you to the nearest tree, and then how it barks at the top of its peacock throat : ))
Well, some practical advice on how to get there: the very first one is, of course, on foot - for those who have the time, energy and desire. Actually, at the very beginning of route planning, I planned exactly this method in order to combine a walk through the streets of Lisbon and reaching the most spectacular observation deck. Then I reconsidered to another option - combining with a trip on perhaps the most famous and popular vehicle in Lisbon - on the famous 28 tram from Martim Moniz Square, but the queue for it turned out to be huge. Right next to it is the stop of tram number 12, which goes to the same regions, no less “ancient” than the 28th, and there are an order of magnitude fewer passengers, and they used it. But probably the most convenient and fastest way is bus 737 from Figueira Square, which travels very fast, quite often, to the very entrance to the castle of St. George. Yes, we had to climb up to the castle twice, because the first time we arrived after 18.00, and the castle no longer worked at the entrance, although it was indicated in my cheat sheet until 21.00. I easily adapt and rebuild according to circumstances but there are places that I can't miss. So I had to come again : ))
Jeronimos Monastery
You can also get to the Jeronimos Monastery by bus from the Plaza de Commerce, and by train from the Cais do Sodre station. The second option seemed more convenient to us, and we moved in the early morning. In general, everything went fine, the Lisboa Card opened all the turnstiles for us, the train to Cascais was going smoothly, but, for some reason, the silhouette of the monastery was left behind - and where is the stop? At some point, it dawned on us that the train just didn’t stop at the Belem station we needed... All of them, in confusion, got off at the next Alges station, and with us a confused bunch of blond tourists. Where they came from, we did not understand, they tried to communicate with them in their poor English, they answered something to us, we did not hear familiar words)). We made a joint decision to return back to Belem station on the nearest train. And what horror loomed on our faces when the train again paraded past the station! Of course, I was reminded of the closed metro station, near which I managed to choose a hotel : )) We got off at the Alcantara station in a friendly crowd. Our comrades in misfortune decided not to tempt fate any more and went to the bus stop. But we do not give up, we also need to get to the bottom of the truth. There was a young man who was able to explain to us that the morning trains stop in Belem after one, and now the nearest one will not let us down. So they did. So if anyone is going to Belem by train from the Cais do Sodre station, skip the departure times of 9.24, 9.36 and 9.48))
Here is the monastery of Jeronimos - stone lace
Photos do not convey all the beauty and grandeur.
It really needs to be seen
We saw an interesting little thing in the Cathedral, modern technologies ))
From practical information: we arrived at eleven o'clock in the morning, there was a queue for the entrance of about twenty people, it moved quickly. Admission is free with the Lisboa Card. The entrance to the cathedral is free for everyone.
The weather was gorgeous, conducive to walks
After the monastery, according to the standard program, we went to the embankment of the river. Tagus,
but we didn’t stay long, it was very windy, we even put on our hats, we didn’t have time to walk…
Carriage Museum
Next to Belem station is another free object for us (according to Lisboa Card) - the Caret Museum. This is a new building, the construction of which is associated with scandals and incredible expenses. The old building, which, in turn, is an architectural monument, is a little further, but we didn’t get there anymore, there was no strength left.
It would seem, you would think, carriages.
But it turns out that we saw such works of carriage art. Captivating, you begin to look at all these ferdibobels, sculptural compositions, paintings and interior decoration.
Beautiful! But, damn it, it must have been shaking : ))
In general, nothing changes in this world: now they boast about expensive cars, before they showed off cool carriages, gave them, redeemed them, gave bribes with them...
The main exhibition is ceremonial carriages, but there are also baby strollers and mail carriages.
The exposition is arranged in chronological order. If you have time, don't pass by.
About Tax Free or if you want a refund, don't forget your passport : ))
By some miracle, we still managed to shop : )) This thought was allowed during the initial planning of the trip, but it is very ghostly: maybe, or maybe not, let's look at the Vasco da Gama shopping center, which is located near the Oriente station ( Oriente) in the Park of Nations, where, in turn, I dreamed of looking at the last day of my stay in Lisbon.
But our logistics has changed somewhat, the Park of Nations with the cable car (my next quirk) remained for sometime later.
We visited the department store El Corte Inglé s, which is located near the metro station Sã o Sebastiã o, the intersection of the red and blue metro lines. In this department store, you can make purchases in different departments, and then issue one general check for the return of tax free, an identity document (at least a number) is required for registration. There are no adventures in our family, during registration it turned out that copies of passports were laid out of the bag along with cheat sheets that were already unnecessary, the originals were in the hotel room. And for some reason, it’s in the phone that there is a photo of the birth certificates of children and, in general, all their documents, but you didn’t think of taking a picture of your own passports, huh? Well, it’s clear that my bag is also laid out by me : )). The young man who issued the check volunteered to call the hotel, well, at least I didn’t forget the name)), but there, of course, the secret of our passports was not divulged. But the 50 euros promised to be returned (when buying for 380) should not disappear, using a weak signal of free Wi-Fi, I got a passport number through Moscow : ))), I knew for sure that it was in a big family travel suitcase at home there are no copies.
As for the return process at the Lisbon airport, everything turned out to be easy and simple: after passport control on the right, the customs officer stamped the check without even looking at the purchases. To the left of the passport control at the Global Blue office, they immediately issued the money. It was late in the evening, maybe that's why there were no more people who wanted to return tax free except for us.
