Haydarpasa Railway Station

Haydarpaşa Garı, Istanbul Haydarpaşa Terminal, Haydarpaşa Terminus
Turkey, Istanbul
The Haydarpaşa railway station was built in 1906–1908. in the Asian part of Istanbul by German architects as the starting point of the Istanbul-Baghdad railway. The station is located on the Bosphorus embankment, on an artificial peninsula with an area of more than 4 hectares. It stands out for its monumental size and original architecture for an Asian city in the style of German neoclassicism - its five-story building with round towers looks like an old castle. The interior of the station is decorated in an oriental style: bright stained-glass windows in large windows, amazing paintings on the ceilings, intricate stucco molding and walls decorated with tiles in a traditional oriental style are striking here.
The station serves commuter trains on the Asian side of Istanbul, intercity trains to Ankara and other cities in eastern Turkey, and international trains to Iran, Armenia and Syria. Also at the foot of the station is a port and a pier from which ferries depart to other parts of Istanbul.

The previous review of the Istanbul station inspired))) (http://www.turpravda.com/places/tr/stambul/Vokzal_Hajdarpasha-s5626/r158726.html) Haydarpasha is my first independent travel experience, when, having bought a banal all inclusive package to Kemer in May 2010, I also took Antalya-Istanbul tickets for 4 days and some cheap Istanbul apartments. And I went not for the sake of Hagia Sophia or Topkapi, but for the sake of the station building, which I saw in the video of the Turkish singer. The rails-sleepers-station stations in the video were successfully played with the theme of parting - according to the plot of the song, the hero was abandoned by an insidious beauty.

Huge, by the standards of Istanbul, and the majestic building of the station now looks deserted. German architecture contrasts very much with everything that the Turks built. The entire main building of the station has recently been surrounded by a construction fence and, apparently, for a long time. Two islands of life is an expensive restaurant right in the building, and a very elegant ticket office at the pier next to the station (on the last photo).
