Flight Moscow-Male, direct flight "Aeroflot", 8 hours 30 minutes and we are on the spot, night flight, which is very convenient. On the plane, they filled out migration cards and information about the coronavirus, went through control at the airport and, having received luggage, went to the arrivals area. There we were met by a hotel representative and escorted to a nearby terminal for a domestic flight, helped with check-in and told us what to do next. Domestic flight - 30 minutes, new plane, everything on time, clean, friendly airline staff. Upon arrival, we were again met by the hotel staff, escorted to the bus, which took us to the pier, by the way, while you drive to the pier - 7-10 minutes maximum, you can see how the locals live : ). Next speedboat for another 20 minutes and hello Kandima!
We lived in a Beach studio with access to the beach, more precisely, to the lagoon with turquoise water and awesome sunsets in the evenings, which we watched sitting on the terrace of the room or on the beach. Comfortable, there is everything you need, the only thing was to ask for 2 additional adapters for sockets. Wi-fi in the rooms and throughout the hotel, we learned all the information from the hotel application, be sure to download it, you will be aware of the opening hours of all establishments on the territory of the hotel, and there are many of them, about all parties, evening and daytime events at the hotel, there You can also order food to your room and sign up for a spa center.
The island is very large and we really liked it, the first couple of days we took bicycles and rode around the island, exploring it, then we walked or used the bus that runs around the hotel.
Restaurants and food: we had half board plus, so we had breakfast and dinner included, and since we lived in the middle, between the two main restaurants, we alternated them : ) in both they cook very tasty and varied, the chefs are very friendly, they cook excellently, there are dietary and gluten-free dishes, there is a children's table. Be sure to visit the Asian restaurant - Dragon, we went 2 times for lunch and 1 time for dinner, fresh seafood and a good wine list. I liked Azur - excellent pizza, which can be ordered during the day in the central bar area as well. Loved Aroma Cafe, perfect place for an after lunch coffee break or ice cream tasting.
Evening programs and no Turkish animation, but there is: live music or a DJ plays, twice got to a special cocktail party.
The ocean is gorgeous, a long sandy beach with a gentle entrance, but coral slippers are better to take, although the beach is cleaned daily, but sometimes fragments in the sand come across.
SPA - did 2 massages, the prices were quite adequate, by the way, they can also be viewed on the hotel website in advance or in the application.
My husband went to the platform almost every day to swim with a mask, he really liked it. A couple of times I went diving and was satisfied. What pleased me was the presence of Russian-speaking staff at the reception and in the diving center, although our English is not bad, but it is always more pleasant to speak in our native language.
The hotel also has a very large mini-club and many guests with children, but since the island is large, no one bothers you! The average age of guests is 30+, guests of completely different nationalities, which is a definite plus of the hotel!
Of the features, the hotel takes a deposit upon arrival of $ 100 per room per day - we have blocked on the card, the point is that you make the calculation for all services at the time of departure and the amount is deducted from your deposit, there is no need to carry money or cards, which is very convenient. The rest of the deposit was returned to us on the card, about 10 days later.
We liked everything, we have been to many places and there is something to compare with, the hotel is not 5 deluxe, but a strong 5-a with excellent service and very reasonable cost.
I hope we will return there again, but already in the aqua villa, we liked them very much. : ) But if you need comfortable accommodation, delicious food, and not to be bored, so even for adequate money, take a closer look at Kandima, most likely - this is the best option.
There were extremely unpleasant impressions from the level of service, which does not correspond to the status of a 5-star hotel, even 4-star pulls with great difficulty.
We rested in mid-February, chose one of the most expensive options - Ocean Pool Villa.
We arrived on the island late in the evening. The way we were greeted was already unpleasantly surprised. Handed out wet towels, standing in the dark, it is not clear what we are waiting for. Either go somewhere into the light towards the reception, or wait for further instructions. You can't leave a deposit with a debit card (? ! ). Only credit cards are accepted. They didn't show us the number. What we saw in the room: 1. There are no bathrobes, no slippers, there is an adapter for an outlet, but it is broken (! ). 2. The sliding door to the bathroom/toilet does not close well simply because it is installed crookedly 3. Most importantly: there is no descent to the ocean from our Ocean (! ) Pool Villa.
It turns out that the word "Ocean" in the name of the villa implies that you can only look at the Ocean. You cannot swim in this place, as there is a strong current and stones. The view from the window in the end, frankly, is not Maldivian. Let's get back to the service: as soon as we arrived and discovered the lack of what we needed, we decided to call the reception. What do you expect to hear when you call the front desk at a 5 star hotel? "Stay on the line, you're third in line" is what we heard. I have visited many places: both in the remote corners of our Motherland, and in many other countries, but I have not seen anything like this. The guy at the reception said that they didn’t have slippers in principle, they would bring bathrobes, they sent the adapter to look for a person in other rooms (! ) As a result, they brought dirty slippers with women’s hair inside and a poorly working adapter (that is, due to poor contact, it worked , then no).
The next day we went to breakfast and were also a little shocked that we were going to the Maldives, but somehow ended up in Turkey, and not in the best hotel. A huge number of people, everyone is fussing, looking over your shoulder, almost there is a battle for food. The food is pretty mediocre though. The emphasis is apparently on tourists from China and India. Basically, everything is laid out in saucepans with lids that are inconvenient to open. There are no fruits, we practically did not eat them. There are no freshly squeezed juices (even for a fee, only packaged, poured in containers. It tastes like "yuppies". Naturally, no one will pour coffee or tea for you - everything yourself. You are in a 5-star hotel (! ). It is very difficult to resist sarcasm No seafood. After all this, we went to the manager Abdullah in the hope of finding understanding from him. He reacted very coolly to all the problems we described, as if everything was as it should be.
There were no apologies for anything. Regarding the fact that the Ocean Pool Villa does not have access to the ocean, it was said: "everywhere in the description it is indicated that there is no access to water. " In fact, this is a lie, since even on the website of the Kandima hotel there is not a word about this. On the contrary, it is said that our accommodation has absorbed the best of the beach villa and the water villa (Aqua villa). I don’t know what he absorbed there, but we ended up having to walk to the common beach for 10 minutes in the heat - in order to actually see those Maldives, for which we had come such a long way.
More abstract)
- there is no one in the pool bar, then there are no bananas for a cocktail. There are no bananas on the tropical island (! ). At the same time, they are sometimes eaten at breakfast. Mystic.
- Internet on the whole island is below average. We tried to watch movies in the evenings - it never happened, everything slows down.
- There are problems with entering the sea on most of the island - everywhere there are either stones or shells.
- There are a lot of people on the island, noisy and uncomfortable
- Managers always promise something and immediately forget about it. That is, no feedback.
- Do not expect an individual approach to you. The number of staff clearly does not match the number of clients. The level of knowledge and skills of the staff leaves much to be desired.
- It is inconvenient to move around the island - there are "buses" but quite rarely and often there are no more places in them.
They met well, flew in in the morning, escorted us to the reception hall, seated us on bright colored chairs, we really liked the design, they gave us drinks and towels while we drank and wiped ourselves, they decorated our sky studio, although we were warned that check-in was from 14, but as a result, at 11 o'clock we were already in the room
The room is normal, an unusual shower is a disco, you can turn on the backlight, an interesting idea) The bed is large and comfortable, all shower accessories were present, with this ok
We went to lunch and were stunned by the number of people, there was such a hubbub, very unusual, usually it’s quiet and smooth on the island, but here you don’t hear yourself . . The Chinese rule! )) Appreciated the large selection of food, really liked the seafood in a large saucepan, huge shrimp, squid, mussels, there was something else, I don’t remember, but this dish was especially memorable, and such a creamy sauce is magnificent, unrealistically tasty, we went for the supplement 3 times! A separate room for desserts, and also a very large selection, I read briefly that supposedly there are no fruits, how not, if there is a separate room for them (along with desserts)? ))) Fruits, however, we rarely liked anywhere in the Maldives, and here too not the best, but they are! )
Separately, I note the bar next to the infinity pool, they make excellent cocktails, I liked them more than in other hotels (Kanuhura, Conrad), perhaps they also do well in W Maldives)
I don’t know, maybe we lived there for a few days, maybe just loyal, but the staff and service suited us, the beach is also normal, you can’t swim everywhere, but there is also a good lagoon with an excellent entrance, also wonderful snorkeling! And they also have a cafe Aroma, awesome pastries!! ! The coffee is not great, but the desserts are 10/10! In the evening we danced in a nightclub and there were people! Usually in the Maldives in the evening everyone sleeps or in numbers, but here they really have fun =) In the afternoon, by the way, too, there is music on the pool and there is a beautiful audience around, it was nice to be)
Actually emotions were positive!
The hotel is new, opened in March 2017.
My husband and I tried to see the island in as much detail as possible and learn about the different categories of rooms in the hotel.
So, I will state in detail what I know))
The concept of the hotel is very unusual for the Maldives - life style, it seems to reflect the rhythm of the usual life in the city.
You live as if in a residential area, in your villa, and the center of the city, where there is "life", are all public areas concentrated in the central part of the island (bar, restaurant, swimming pool, reception).
Buggy runs around the island every 5-7 minutes in both directions, like buses. There are even special "bus stops" along the road, within walking distance of the villas.
You can relax in a private atmosphere in your villa, and if you want to “go out”, sit on a buggy and come to the “center”, go to a store or sit in a bar, skip a cocktail or another.
There are many shops on the island, souvenir shops, clothing boutiques, including a small grocery market where you can buy light snacks (chips, nuts, waffles), drinks and fruits. There is a coffee shop where you can order cold coffee.
A unique feature of the hotel is the presence of an art studio where you can take drawing lessons and go to the open air. The hotel also has a marine animal research center and a large swimming pool for diving lessons.
The hotel is new, beautiful, has a stylish and modern design.
There are a lot of interesting and creative locations especially for photo shoots - swings in the water, soft zones right in the pool, the hotel logo on the beach and on the pier.
There are different categories of rooms: the minimum category is a beach studio, the rooms are located in two-story bungalows, there are 4 rooms in one bungalow, on the first floor there are rooms with direct access to the sea, on the second floor the rooms have a large balcony with a soft swing, armchairs and a table.
The next category in which we lived - beach villas, separate houses with a pool or jacuzzi, with direct access to the sea. In the part of the island where the beach villas are located, in my opinion, the best beach and sunset, in addition, this is the side where the sun sets, that is, you can enjoy the sunsets.
Water villas, as it turned out, are divided in the same way - the villa has either a jacuzzi or a pool. They are located on the other side of the island. Nearby there is a restaurant, swimming pool. The beach is shared with beach studios, they are located nearby.
The internal content, design, colors of all hotel rooms are almost the same. Everywhere in the interior there is a stylish shade of turquoise, or, as it is now fashionable to call it, Tiffany Blue. The rooms have everything you need: safe, mini bar, hairdryer, kettle, tea / coffee set, etc.
Service and cleaning is quite decent, cleaning was every day. The rooms have special signs with basic requirements and wishes in a playful form, you can move the arrow to the desired one, for example, “my towels and linen are not fresh” and leave it to the cleaner. He will change everything.
The beach is excellent, clean and shady, as there are many palm trees growing along the beach. The hotel has a nice lagoon with fine sandy entry. As such, the hotel does not have a reef, but not far from the hotel, in the ocean, there is a platform from which you can dive and snorkel. Wedding ceremonies are sometimes held there as well.
The platform can be reached free of charge by boat, which departs from the hotel's diving club at certain hours.
The island is long and elongated, on the opposite side there is an open ocean, big waves, swimming is prohibited there. The largest communal pool is 100 meters long, with different depths. The island is green, medium in size.
The hotel has an excellent children's mini club, they accept children from 4 to 6 years old. For children, a children's playground with fountains (there is no pool), the fountains are turned on twice a day at different times. There are various activities for kids: they cook pancakes and various sweets, make decorations and toys with their own hands, study the flora and fauna of the island in a playful way. The mini club has Russian speaking staff.
There are rooms for babies and a babysitter on request - $ 15 / hour (evening $ 20 / hour, night time $ 25 / hour), a babysitter can come to the villa, or the child can be left in the mini club.
The food at the hotel is excellent and varied. There is a main restaurant next to the reception, there are several a la carte restaurants (Sea Dragon - an Asian restaurant, mainly seafood, Smoke - a grill restaurant, etc. ).
For relaxation and leisure: a tennis court, a spa center, a fitness center open around the clock, an air yoga studio, an art studio and much more. We went to the SPA just to look, we didn’t use the services, but we saw that there is a large pool, a jacuzzi, various types of massages and beauty treatments.
In the evenings, the hotel is quite fun: different musical groups often play, there are discos, you can dance, every Friday there is a karaoke evening.
Once a week there are different themed festivals. Most often right on the beach in the central part of the island, where there is a large swimming pool and reception.
There are two ways to get to the hotel:
- from Velana International Airport (Male) by regular domestic flight 30 minutes to Dhaalu Airport, then by speedboat 20 minutes.
- seaplane 45 minutes.
Arrival in both cases at the main pier of the hotel, then buggies deliver to the tourists' rooms and luggage.
Minuses:
- in the place where the water villas and the scourge of the studio are located, the beach is washed away, therefore, a platform is periodically brought there and work is being done to extract sand from the bottom of the ocean and backfill the beach (perhaps this is a temporary phenomenon).
- in all categories of rooms there is no shower, or at least just a container of water for washing your feet after the beach, this is extremely inconvenient, because sand is brought into the room, onto the carpet.
- sometimes buggies have to wait a very long time, because they come to a stop full of people, and there are no places (concerns rush hours: lunch time, for example).
- there is only one sink in the bathroom, in many 5 * hotels they have been doing two for a long time - this is much more convenient.
There is also a gym (to lose calories after gastronomic pleasures). Indeed, the hotel has a very high quality and varied food, even if you visit only the main restaurant - dishes of various cuisines, both European and local and Indian, are always presented. For breakfast, cheeses (including moldy ones (for me, for example, this is important) sushi, nuts, red fish, gyoze, along with the usual omelettes, cereals and pancakes. Even if you don’t have all-inclusive soft drinks in the buffet (juices, water , cola, sprites, coffee, tea) are always free. The food is really of high quality and varied. In the sea food restaurant, you will be caught lobster, oyster (any marine reptile, of which there are in the aquariums in stock) and cooked according to your preferences.
Coffee and water unlimited in the room replenished every day. In the minibar, wine, beer - a standard set, the prices are very democratic - a can of beer is $ 6, wine is about $ 30.
Also the prices for water sports are very pleased. And wake and snorkel and diving of course. Snorkeling is taken to the platform, which is just 5 minutes from the hotel. Fins, snorkels, masks can be rented.
In summary, a hotel with a unique concept that breaks the stereotype that the Maldives is boring and you can only enjoy each other in an incredible natural scenery. The hotel is very stylishly decorated, everything is new, clean, stylish, the food, like everything else, is at a high level, without unnecessary pathos and show-offs. No dress codes, no glamor, which is just perfect for a full-fledged high-quality rest in comfort at the level, but without racing for pathos and bows, you can just relax and enjoy. You can either retire in the greenery of your bungalows or find entertainment to your liking. For me, this is the perfect Maldivian hotel.
PS According to the previous review, the presence of a tractor can only be guessed from the always perfectly wasted sand, which looks very nice and well-groomed, but has never been seen or heard !!!
As for the villas located close to each other - they are separated from each other by lush vegetation, it is difficult to imagine that such a location would somehow interfere ...and we did not feel any hostel at all (of course, in July there are fewer vacationers, but still, the island is quite large and vacationers they just spread out over it, sometimes it seemed to us that we were all alone on it).
About food, in general no comments food is 5 * and no less. I will not repeat myself about the variety, about the presence of seafood for dinner, red fish, cheeses, yoghurts, juices, fruits - just above all praise.
I highly recommend this hotel to everyone and will be back myself.
All the bright Maldives! ; -) For me personally, if the Maldives, then Kandima.
There was no talk of any waiting room (as in other good hotels in the Maldives).
, at low tide it is impossible to swim in the sea, only corals and stones, knee-deep water everywhere, no matter how far you go, at high tide it is still possible to swim, but without special shoes it is better not to meddle in the sea.
Food: the biggest disappointment.
Breakfast is more or less tolerable, no freshly squeezed juices for breakfast, only from packages. And for dinner.
No seafood , Maximum tuna and Colmar, very little fruit.
In other restaurants, the food is tasteless, somewhere spicy, somewhere too fatty, etc. (with an average check of $60-70)
but happiness is not in food.
Every day from 5 am a tractor starts to drive near the room and so on until 8-9 am. Seaplanes take off and land.
About the numbers
Sky Studio is well furnished (like all rooms), but with full occupancy, it seems that you live in a hostel.
Beach villas from the ocean - no one deserves a mention.
Living in them is not very good - the sea is noisy and you have to go to the beach on the other side.
The beach villas on the lagoon side are the best rooms, but they are located close to each other.
Chefs don't know how to cook interfere in their , , works, everything (they can make rice with shrimp and chicken)
Solid 4..... no, 3 stars can be put on this, as the local manager says, Life-style Hotel.
