It is better to fly to Montenegro by plane. There are cheap flights during the summer months. And you can rent a car there. Montenegro has a very large selection of cars for rent at low prices. Any rights are possible.
аватар moy_contakt
By car, in order to get to Montenegro, you will have to go through the countries of the Schengen zone, and there you need biometrics (which, as I understand it, your husband does not have). Well, it's good to have new ones. It makes sense to catch a cheap tour at the cost of tickets. And if you don’t like the accommodation offered in the package, move to a more comfortable one. Take the car on the spot.

just for the money that I offer, I wouldn’t want to hang out in one city, especially since I’m far from all. But paying for a hotel and driving around in different parts is somehow a pity, maybe it makes sense to sleep in a tent at all through the night, look at housing upon arrival in order to wash and recharge the power. Or is it obligatory to have a hotel reservation confirmation at the borders? we are with a child of 7 years old, all that I see now on the plane is 7000 UAH in both directions for one, it is not known how much it will cost in the end with food, since we are planning a vacation without all for the first time. I want some specifics for $

we can’t afford a vacation in August and there is no vacation, all we count on is May the beginning of June, I know that the sea is cold, but I want more movement, we want to see everything in Montenegro. How is the weather at this time for travel and hiking?
аватар moy_contakt
It is the end of May, the beginning of June, that is the most normal time to look and generally visit this beautiful country, because later Russians and locals will rush there and there will be nowhere to lay a towel on the beach (municipal beaches, small). The only thing is that we used to fly on May holidays (and even swam, even though the water was about +18), and in recent years the charter program starts in June. Well, I say that in Montenegro there are often offers for the price of an airplane, and the child goes for a minuscule (we took our son with us, there was an extra charge for him about 100 euros ...) the last time we were in Montenegro was in early August 2016 and this is trash .... a lot of people and somehow it doesn’t pull anymore ... over the years of travel they have traveled everything and everything ... Now it makes no sense to watch, look in March, April, but in general wait for burning ones, because the first plane is usually poorly filled the sea is still cold. We usually bought a tour a week before departure, there were always great deals.

and at least what approximate budget do you lay for the whole trip and the number of days?
Is the car gasoline or gas? Is there any tinting and what kind?
аватар ollennka
Let's be realistic:
1. No matter how much you want to visit Montenegro, if there is objectively no money for it, either postpone the dates of the trip and save money, or choose another country closer and cheaper. Vacation should not make a hole for six months in your family budget.
2. With the seeming cheapness of traveling by car, do not forget that from Kyiv to Budva, for example, two thousand kilometers. Even if you and your husband will change at the wheel, you are unlikely to spend less than two daylight hours on the road. This is an additional 3-4 days that you could rest, but instead spend on the road. This is additional money for gasoline and overnight stays (a tent is great, but you also need to wash yourself sometimes so that others are not confused with the homeless). In short, in terms of cost, a trip by car is unlikely to be more profitable than an airplane. Unless your family is avid auto travelers and get high from many hours of travel.
Buy the cheapest tour for the flight and take a car on the spot. Well, see point 1.

1. By car you will reach Montenegro without a biometric passport. You have to go by plane directly.
Because if you go by car/bus, then you need transit visas for Bulgaria, Romania or Hungary.
2. The sea on June 10-15 is already good for swimming and excursions are cheaper. After June 20, the excursion ticket (Boka Bay, lakes, etc.) immediately rises in price.
3. The private sector can be found on site, allowing you to relax along the entire Montenegrin coast of your choice.
Good luck!

Amendment: 1. By car, you will NOT reach Montenegro without a biometric passport.

Close friends a couple of years ago arranged for themselves such a car tour, where Montenegro was the ultimate goal. Friends themselves from Lviv, those near the border. The whole tour lasted 25 days! And they stayed in hotels and hostels (they didn’t spend the night in a tent and car, they didn’t go at night). Along the way, I also stopped by different cities and so on. We stopped for a beach holiday in Croatia and then in Montenegro. As they later described their impressions on the way there, there were a lot of them, everyone was active, interesting and cool. But the road back turned out to be rather difficult, because we were tired, but on the way I had to get acquainted with a European car service (the car broke down twice) and the road back took 5 days ... In general, we saw a lot of interesting things, but we were tired :) we spent a lot of money, such a trip is not economical you name it, and they won’t do such a feat again (this is from their words).
аватар ollennka
Without a biometric passport, they will bring it if the husband makes a visa. But I agree with the opinion that this is a feat - like this, rushing to a car for 2000 km and back.
аватар ollennka
25 days off is a lot. Few people now get so much vacation in a row.
аватар moy_contakt
Not everyone asks the employer for this vacation :) and work is different for work ... There is a remote one, and in general. It is not important. The bottom line is that if you go by car, then it makes sense to see sights along the way, cities in which you have not yet been. Well, be prepared for surprises that may delay you along the way.
аватар ollennka
It's me out of envy))). I am one of those who have to ask for a vacation.)))

1. Get your husband a biometric passport, then there is no question about visas. Or get a Bulgarian multi-visa or at least a double-entry visa for 40 euros and get to Montenegro through Macedonia and Albania. By the way, Albania is also good for a beach holiday.
2. Keep in mind that you will not be able to accelerate in Montenegro - it is half the size of the Poltava region.
3. Start relaxing from the first meters of your road trip, because along the way you will meet many interesting places. Find them, book an overnight stay nearby at a motel or campsite. You can set up your own tent there - about 5 euros / day. Everywhere there is a shower, a cafe and all other necessary amenities.
4. Prepare the car for the trip. A driver's license is good, but it's time to change it, because after this trip you will want to ride around Europe someday ..
An interesting fact is that from Poltava to Kemer in Turkey and to Budva in Montenegro the same distance. I would go to Turkey in May, which I did many times, though in July-August.
Good luck to you

Get a biometric passport. The driver's laminated one does not need to be changed. I've had this since 2000. Suitable for all European countries. I traveled with him almost all countries. To calm down, you can make a separate IDL (a gray booklet with a translation into several languages International Driving License). Done in the Service Center in Kyiv for a week, costs 5 UAH!!! True, even for bank services 8 UAH. I did this MVU a month ago. And that's all. Drive quietly through Hungary and Serbia. No one will check the car for compliance with Euro 5. The first day in Ukraine to the border with Hungary. You can spend the night in Uzhgorod or Berehove. Track. day - border crossing and Hungary - on high-speed autobahns. At the first gas station, buy a vignette. You can stay in Budapest for a couple of days. The city is very interesting. Then - Serbia through Belgrade. You can also see the capital of Serbia. Then select a couple of days to the North of Montenegro - Durmitor, Black Lake, Dzhurdzhevich's bridge, the road through Durmitor in Pluzhine.
аватар AlexZimin
In the North of Montenegro, you can definitely allocate a couple of days. And after that already to the south :)
аватар Igor_m
And it is possible through Romania (Transfegerash, Brasov, Bran), then through Bulgaria (Malko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Plovdiv) and .... in Edirne to Turkey.
аватар AlexZimin
You can, but Google maps lays out the shortest and fastest route through Hungary and Serbia. And the roads are better. At least I personally traveled from Kyiv through Hungary to Croatia and Italy. Roads along the entire route - stole! http://prntscr.com/m9cocg
аватар Igor_m
AlexZimin, they will patch up the Odessa one a little, and it's a pleasure to Reni. Google is our friend, but I would go to Montenegro and through Slovenia, Croatia, it would be more interesting, which is the most important thing for me.
аватар AlexZimin
I would also go through Romania and Bulgaria, given that I have never been there before. It would be interesting. But apparently, the authors of this topic have not yet traveled to Europe in their car. Therefore, I recommend using a more optimal route - through Hungary and Serbia. However, it's up to them, of course. How many people are so many and expensive :) A ride on Transfagarash is certainly cool! :)
аватар Igor_m
After Transfegerash began to respect himself as a driver. And Romania is a very beautiful country, especially Transylvania, Timisoara, Sinai, Brasov...
Did the author of the question find out what is interesting and important to him?
аватар 86jjj
Romania - Serbia - Montenegro. This is how we drove.

Katyasn, if you need to save money - take a bus tour. At the end of May, for three 10 nights, you can now take around 500 euros. Although 30 hours on the road is a very doubtful pleasure, you can survive. I went that way once.
I was in Montenegro 3 times: in June, July and August. The most beautiful Montenegro is in June. Everything is green, the rivers and lakes are full-flowing, there is still snow on the tops of the mountains. The sea is still cool, but swimming is quite comfortable. There will be 20 degrees.
Montenegro is tiny. Any trip - left in the morning, returned in the evening. There is enough time.
аватар AllOverTheWorld
The author is not in dialogue, and it bothers me that a trip with a 7-year-old child (tents in a foreign country, etc.) It’s better with tents in the Carpathians or Ukraine, there are many beautiful places.
camomille, 30 hours in a sitting position is of course tin ...
my relatives also went to Montenegro from Kharkov by car, there is no saving as such and they are not going to repeat it again
аватар 86jjj
Is it about tents? Many travel by car, stopping overnight at hotels along the way. Yes, there are a lot of my acquaintances with children who go not only to Bulgaria and Romania, but to Greece, Montenegro, Italy, in winter to Austria, and only on a personal car. The concept of "foreign country" now, with the presence of the Internet and the simplicity of ordering a hotel, does not exist at all. There is a desire to see something new - go, well, or fly.
аватар ollennka
Yes, specifically, the author of the question is talking about tents ...
аватар ollennka
There is nothing wrong with the road trips themselves, I traveled around Belarus myself, I really liked the nomadic style of the trip, when you don’t know where you will spend the night tomorrow. But to consider this option more economical than by plane or train is a mistake.
аватар 86jjj
In a comment about the tent. No, well, tents are somehow completely .. another topic. The price of the issue is 25-40 euros per night in an inn with amenities, because the driver must be rested, this is his vacation too.
On the plus side, we have a very, very beautiful road through Romania, Serbia, Montenegro. The road is incredibly beautiful and you can stop along the way.. lakes, river, canyons. Real vacation.
аватар AllOverTheWorld
I did not write that autotravel is bad!
the author has requests: budget (even ready with a 7-year-old child to spend the night in a tent and wash every other day)
just count the cost of fuel for such a trip!
it is profitable to travel by car when, for example, a company rides on a bus and splits the cost of fuel and accommodation for everyone (we go skiing like this, although if you buy an air ticket in advance, then renting a car on the spot is more profitable than driving from Ukraine to Europe)
