As for excursions, it depends on what you want to see, but take a scooter .... We didn’t dare ..... right-hand traffic, rush like scorched buses, etc. ... Tours are not cheap and they are very tiring, because the main attractions are in center of the island, and the rest takes place on the coast. Therefore, if it is possible to make adjustments, then it is better to visit them before the hotel (eat right on arrival for 2-3 days and see everything in bulk with a guide), or before departure, those from the excursion directly to the airport. Of course, there are interesting places nearby, where you can get there by tuk - tuk, where by transport. There were threads discussing these options.

What hotel will you be in? there, local guides walk along the beach and offer excursions. We went with Saman, a good pleasant man, speaks good Russian. For 20 dollars for the whole day, in a minivan with a Conder to the lagoon. We went to Galle ourselves, the bus station in the center of Hikkadwu is worth a penny .. you can go not only to Galle, but further. In principle, there are no problems with driving somewhere. But driving on your own is better not to take risks. By the way, local guides have all the excursions to the jungle. And to Kandy. And to Sigiriya ... you can bargain.)

We take a minimum of things! Shorts + T-shirt, for visiting the Temples and in general in the sun cotton with long sleeves, flip flops, poreo, cap, swimsuit, glasses, safe tanning cream with protection 35 (we like Biocon) and cream or aloe after sunburn. Botanical Garden, Sigiriya - it's just super. The mountainous places of Sri Lanka are also worth seeing, but this is unrealistic on a scooter. We hired a minibus with a guide and traveled around the island for 5 days.

Returning every day from such an excursion is not an option, because it’s a long way to go and, in fact, only a one-way trip takes several hours. Therefore, someone goes straight from the airport to see the sights, and then returns to the hotel for the final rest. Someone completes their vacation with such a few day trips and from it immediately to the airport. We went in the middle of the holiday and it was not the best option.
