They say it makes no sense to go to the ShL in May, but where? With the coast, thank you, of course, and excursions, the weather will not interfere, I don’t want to sit all the time on the beach.

I read in another thread that ShL is ok all year round, but do you need to take different coasts?

Yes, winter is southwest, summer is east. All the main attractions are in the middle, closer to the east. So if you go to a hotel in the southwest, then you will not see the sights of Sri Lanka, they are located 8 hours from the southwest coast.

We lived in Ahangama and had a great trip around the island. Yes, it's a bit far, but that doesn't mean you can't see anything. We took a guide with a car from a local travel agency and drove deep into the island (Kadni, Sigiriya, Nuwara Eliya) for 2 days with an overnight stay at a hotel on the road near Sigiriya.

You can go to Sri Lanka at any time of the year. I have been living in Unawatuna for 8 years now, the weather is always even, there are no monsoons. Not once, over the years, in Unawatuna was there a ban on swimming, unlike other beaches. The reef ridge closes the beach and there is no dangerous wave. regarding excursions, so this must be decided on the spot. first we find out what the weather is like on the planned route, and then we just send our tourists on tours. And this is not only in May. So all year round.
Sri Lanka is a fabulous country, there is something to see, there is where to relax, there is something to be surprised and rejoice ... You just need to know: where, with whom and how much. But that's the usual... :)

If so, then yes, of course. But if you took an expensive hotel on the southwest coast for the whole vacation, then leaving it for 2 days you lose all the money for these 2 days. Therefore, you need to plan ahead. For example, 3-4 days upon arrival - attractions, and then on the coast to the hotel to sunbathe and swim. Usually people take a hotel for the whole vacation on the coast in the south, and at most they go to tea plantations. I also recommend seeing at least Kandy, Sigiriya, Dambula, and ideally also the ancient capitals - Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura.

Undoubtedly, if you go to AI. But if we compare the price of the package tour Excursions + beach for breakfast with the price of the tour only on the beach and take excursions around the island on the spot, then the second is cheaper (even taking into account the lost 2 days at the hotel). But in general, if you set out to have a good look at the island, then it’s better to fly as savages))

AnKa_Konor, everything is correct. It is better to fly on your own, which we did last summer. The trip was a success! So many impressions, so much to see, it was unforgettable ... I'm very glad that we went on our own, and not with a travel agency. A short video about our trip to Sri Lanka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBOJf03ITIk

That is, you can go to Unawatuna whenever you want? And where else can you do it anytime (in March April in particular - where?)?
