Please help me choose a resort for SL in April
Firstly, we will be in the SL from April 15 to April 30. The question is which cities have better weather. I don't know the country, so East or West, I don't understand, tell me which cities!!!
Secondly, what we want: swim in the ocean, see elephants and other animals bathing, eat fruit, go (or go) to the local FISHING.
Thirdly, excursions are of interest only to one-day, non-fatiguing ones. Somewhere before 6 o'clock. We are going to take or go on our own for 2-3 excursions, the rest of the time to be on the beach. I haven’t been to SHL yet, but it seems to me that I’m going for the first time, BUT not for the last time, so I’ll postpone the BIG sightseeing tour for later. Thanks to everyone who can help!

we were in Koggala - practically the very south of the country. Of the animals seen monitor lizards and monkeys. Elephants have to go deep into the island and it's not 6 hours. fruits are the same everywhere. near Galle Fort, cool Jungle Beach, a turtle farm, you can go boating on the lake, fishing and whale watching.
The choice of the city depends on your possibilities, the hotels in this city are the cheapest - but we all really enjoyed it. And the ocean - just no words;)

I agree with Koggala. The ocean there is incredible, but you have to be confident in your abilities. He, the ocean, is stormy)) There are elephants and there are excursions in Kandy, for one day and I liked it (we went with my guide - it turned out cheaper and more comfortable) Jang Beach, Galle, a fruit market, fishing - all this is in Koggala

masks, fins - do not take, you will not see anything at the bottom - the bottom is snow-white, only sand ....

you have to go to the east from July-August .. the rains are short-term and mostly at night, but the sea will be very stormy ... to watch corals and fish - you need to go to the north-east .. gorgeous sprawling beaches - south, south-west

excursions up to 6 hours will not work - the average speed is 30 km / h

I've been at SHL for two years now. Take a three-day sightseeing tour first. Golden Triangle. Elephant ride in Sigiriya. There is no better ocean at this time of the year than Trincomalee northeast, complete calm. For hotels there is Chao Blue and Nilaveli Beach, both decent. The latter is very, very quiet, beautiful - huge deserted beaches. But 7 days will be enough for him. Chao Blue has 100% whale watching tours and it is April-May when they are there. Both hotels are in the same resort, maybe 1-2 km from each other. Now everyone will praise their resort and their hotel, and the first time I was 20 days and changed 10 hotels, I was on all coasts west-south and at the end of the north-east. And on a 9 day sightseeing tour. And the second time we were in the west for 15 days in one hotel, and inspected short excursions. For example, a water safari on the river, then in Khikaduwa they swam in the open ocean with huge turtles. Then we went to Nuwara Eliya to tea plantations, whoever was there will understand me and lived on a mountain at the foot of a waterfall and in the morning two monkeys came to us right in the room. But there are very strong storms in the west now.

My daughter and I were also in April but last year and I want to agree with Moryachka, if you plan to go on excursions, then it’s better to take a tour right away with excursions, and then the beach. We are quite active people, but it is not too close from almost any beach town to attractions. As a result, you drive for several hours to the place where it is located, the inspection will be just in the very sun, and then the same amount back (speed even at night is not more than 40 km / h, very narrow and winding roads). The excursion is designed in such a way that you visit 2-4 objects per day without wasting too much time. The only thing that makes sense from the coast is, of course, fishing. If finances allow, take a tour for ~ 12 days (4 excursions, the rest is the beach +...)

I want to add that if you buy a tour with excursions right away, do not be alarmed, these are not big buses, but cars for a maximum of 10 people, new and comfortable. We lived on the coast in a hotel where there were only a few Slavic brothers, so the guide didn’t appear there at all, it happens like that, but the locals don’t know Russian.

If you want to combine a beach holiday and not long excursions, I think a holiday in Bentota / Beruwala or Hikkaduwa would suit you.
From Bentota/Beruwala/Hikkaduwa: Turtle Farm in Bentota or Kosgoda, Maduganga River Safari.
From Bentota/Beruwala: Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage (if you go early in the morning, if in the afternoon it will be a longer excursion)
From Hikkaduwa: Galle Fort City.
But next time, be sure to take a sightseeing tour - this will save you money, effort and give your trip a special charm and impressions! :)
