From what part of the island is it more convenient to go on excursions
I know that somewhere there was such a question, but something I can not find it. Please advise from which resort it will be more convenient to go to Kandy, Sinharja, Yala?
I know about combined tours, but it’s hard right after the flight, it won’t have the same effect :)

It just so happened that all sightseeing attractions on the ShL are located in the center of the island, and the resort areas in the southwest and northeast. And it's not about distance, but about time: you can get to your destination on the STL all day, regardless of the distance - narrow roads, heavy traffic, low speed.
Especially for this, combined tours were created: first excursions in the central part, overnight stays there, and then rest on the coast. So no time is wasted on long journeys.
The fact that it will be hard after the flight is an unconfirmed myth. Although you can choose a combi tour with a start on the beach, and then excursions.

@ alya9090: So many times, even on this site, such a question was asked before you, so many times it was answered - long and short ("Yes, with no UNCONVENIENT"), but no, everyone wants to go around himself "on a lame goat")))
Dear fans of the beaches, Sri Lanka cannot be seen from the coast, even if the driver is an ace, the guide is Cicero, and his clients are frisky horses and at the same time heed his every word.
If you don’t want to believe those who “feel on their own” what it’s like to gallop across Europe on a leisurely Lanochka, which doesn’t have such a style of movement, then set up your own experiments: pay for the hotel, be away all day, get breakfast with a “dry ration” , which is only effectively called "lunch box" in the British manner and return closer to midnight to your beach house left at dawn :)
In case I come across as caustic in my comments, re-read above the courteous response from the kind volunteer consultant @chugai:

In Kandy and Sigiriya without a difference. Both are located in the center of the island. In Gala it is better if you rest on the west coast, if in Yalu it is better in the Southeast and very close if you live in the south. Although after the first excursion, I realized that it takes a long time to get from any point of rest, any excursion is almost a day .. The roads are narrow, although not bad, but because of tuk-tuks and motorcyclists, the speed is not very high. an average of 40 km per hour. There is one autobahn, paid COLOMBO-Gala. If you go part of the route along it, you can save 1-2 hours, no more. And it so happened that all the sights are located in the central part of the island. Well, the whole holiday on the coast. So at whatever point you would not rest, the kula will be closer, somewhere a little further. Well, remember that at 6.32 on the ShL the lights are "turned off" and in the evening the temples are very beautiful.

I agree after the flight, it’s better to have 2-3 days to rest, and before the flight back, I also recommend lying on the beach for 2-3 days.

We arrived at 4:30 am. while we changed money, while we smoked with the guide, we went by minibus to Induruva. Distance 70km, driving 3 hours. * in the morning already settled in the hotel. I was ready to go on a tour, but the girls said no. We rested 3 couples so that we still had to plan excursions together. Maybe someone else. But here, as in the old Jewish joke; "I don't know what you're talking about, but you have to go!".

I would still recommend a combo tour.
here is my review of the combined tour http://www.turpravda.ua/lk/dikvella/Dickwella_Village-h21290-r68145.html the devil is not so bad.....
good luck)

I think that if you want to see the country, then you are better off with a combined tour. We had a guy and a girl in the hotel who traveled in this way. First they were driven around the country, and then they settled in our hotel for 5 days. Were satisfied. We even asked them where to go and where not to. And the hotel is not very convenient. Firstly, no one will feed you on the way, you pay for your own food, otherwise what they collect at the hotel will be enough for a girl under 10 years old. Secondly, at the end of your excursion, you just rest until the end of your stay in the country, and don’t think about anything.

And if you fly without a tour operator, but on your own, you can rest for a few days after the flight, then plan an excursion for a few days, and then return to the hotel and rest for a few more days (We did that, you can read the review on my page) . It all depends on your timing...

if it is difficult after the flight - take a night on the coast near the airport for a break, and then with renewed vigor - on an excursion.
Or even take a tour at the end of your vacation.
Everything can be done with an individual approach to business!
If you need help - call us at the office;)

I can help with advice myself, who would help with money! I'm kidding of course. I have already been to SHL, but how many other places have I not been? And you should always know that any individual is always more expensive than a tour package, and sometimes several times more. These are tours for the winter, but I haven’t been to New Zealand yet, and I also want to visit the Philippines and Cambodia. I really liked the country, but I don’t plan 2 times yet.

if you follow the advice of those who know Sri Lanka ("a night on the coast near the airport for a break, and then with renewed vigor - on an excursion"),
then the tour route does not start from the south, but from the resort on the west coast - NEGOMBO. Before him - 20 minutes from the a / port.
Drink tea, fall asleep to the sound of the waves, sleep off after the flight. And then you will start on the main attractions of Sri Lanka (they are concentrated in the interior of the island).
If you go from Negombo to Sigiriya - 4.5 hours drive, to Polonnaruwa - 4.5 - 5 hours, to Kandy - 2.5 hours.
Sinharaja Rainforest Biosphere Reserve (a unique experience!!!) is accessible from Galle (it took us 4 hours one way + 3 hours trek + 4.5 hours back). This is such logistics - harsh, if you scurry to the sights radially from beach resorts.

If you go to an exotic country, an amazing country for an exclusively beach holiday, then of course you can safely succumb to the mass character of the destination.
And when you want to know the country from the inside, feel it ... then you can "donate" a little.
Moreover, Sri Lanka has always been distinguished by relatively inexpensive individual tours.
But of course, to each his own :)

- also in essence. She knows what she is talking about: she herself traveled along the main routes, stopping at hotels in order to select which ones are NOT SHAME to offer the client. Every month, their team prepares themed tours for mini-groups, taking into account the wishes of tourists and their interests. They don't complain about the quality of the programs.
Response @serega829

- It is worth considering this option. Although he traveled without a t / operator (on his own), but he did a major survey on the island here, at TURPRAVD (I remember his series of questions - I answered them myself :).
So, having shoveled the answers of "experts" and "experienced", you can fly "without a t / operator" :) as Sergey calls it. But not without preparation and not without preliminary contacts.
Now figure out what you can do - and act.

Wow!!! To be honest, I didn't expect so many answers! Thank you very much for your advice, we'll think about it :)
аватар serega829
Yes, I can 100% confirm the words of Lanka-Lanochka)) I shoveled a lot of forums, and asked a lot of questions, and Lanke-Lanochke is still grateful for clear and intelligible answers))) she speaks the matter, if "scrap" to read and ask, it is better to fly with a t / operator.

Definitely a combination tour. We had 3 days, I really regret not taking 5. It was the best 3 days!!! And not tedious at all.

it is better to take a combined tour - an excursion + a vacation on the coast. Then the tour is correctly compiled. And it will not be tiring and go from one end to the other.

By the way, we are flying to the Kombitur on January 29 with a group. Think, you are welcome.
The program of excursions is extensive: Sri Lanka in the GRAND format. Route: Colombo - Sigiriya - Minneriya - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla - Matale - Kandy - Peradeniya - Nuwara Eliya + rest by the ocean (you choose the hotel at your discretion - 3 * / 4 * / 5 *).
