Combined rest.
Hello. We want to go to Sri Lanka to relax in the first half of December. Please tell me how you can combine educational excursions to several cultural and historical places and 3-4 days of a pleasant beach holiday? Are there such tours? I saw several offers, but there is more of a beach holiday and a very short overview ((.

A 4-day sightseeing tour will be enough for you. Believe me. And then 7-10 days of relaxed doing nothing, although, in principle, you can find a local guide and ride around the area. Jewelry shops and mines, turtle farms, fish markets, local temples and more. "Any whim."

VediTour probably has, they specialize in excursions and, moreover, Sri Lanka is for sale. She herself was not interested, she was interested in Europe, so you go and see for yourself

OK. Thanks for the advice))

If I were you, I would not order from the operator (why overpay and take everything ready?), but I would organize "any whim" for myself;). Here's how: Sri Lanka is full of guides - local guys who have a long established business and specialty. you can and should bargain with them :) After the trip, I understand that I had to go everywhere myself, even without a guide, but just hire a taxi driver with a car or - if you go far - a tuk-tuk, because - you spend your time clearly on what is interesting, and not where the "uncle" led, and without intrusive advertising of anything. So I went to Colombo - just by taxi. It can be even more exotic - by bus with locals, or by train))) well, this is for extreme sports, probably))

Masha Klimova did everything right, but she has a different travel experience. So this scheme for mastering Lanochka is not universal.
Traveling in different formats in Sri Lanka, I often meet those who, after the so-called. self-taught guides who begin to ask about the most popular places: "Oh, we were not told about this ...".
I would still recommend that an intelligent operator find a basic excursion program with a good guide, and then "lie down" in a beach hotel and enjoy your vacation.

))) It was my first trip to Sri Lanka)) And I studied Lanochka via the Internet in advance, before the trip, choosing where and most importantly - how - I will go this time, and what I will leave for the future. However, I don’t even argue: everyone has their own way in the study of any new country;)

It's funny. We have two Germans, a husband and wife, in order to save money, without accompanying people, they got into Colombo by train. We decided to arrange an independent shopping tour. At first, at the station in Kalutara, they sorted out for a long time the difference in the classes of cars and, accordingly, the difference in fares. Comprehended. We left and safely reached the central station in Colombo. We went out to the station square and realized that the idea, to put it mildly, was not very smart. Where to go next is not clear. The local population does not understand the "great and mighty Deutsch". Well, we wandered a little along the nearby streets and the vegetable market, trying not to let the station out of sight, got tired and, in general, returned by train back to the hotel without buying anything, and in principle without seeing Colombo itself. Maybe it will seem like a fun adventure to someone, but for me, precious vacation time is just wasted.

without brains, any situation can be turned into a "funny" one))) before I go anywhere - even a trip around my native Ukraine, or even around the Kharkiv region - I first draw up an approximate route, and find out what and where you can see interesting things.

Dear Lisa! I have a detailed review on how "for nothing" I spent my vacation time in Sri Lanka. There is a review about the hotel (clearly, you probably don’t need it), but there is a separate review about the country. Wellcome :)

I wonder how much I need to surf the Internet in order to go to Sri Lanka for a week? Three days have already been spent. I don't have that much time. I can't stand more than 3 days on the beach. There are also a lot of "funny" reviews about, what do you call ?, tuk-tuks.
The question is what to do with hotels if I want to go rafting, visit the central part and lie down in the southwest? And wouldn't it be cool to order an individual taxi all over the continent? I'm looking for the perfect program. On the first trip, I didn’t risk it, I would take only air tickets))). In any case, thanks for the advice. More or less the picture is clear.

not cool. I compared on the spot the prices for excursions from local guides with the price of a taxi (in which there will be no company of comrades from the hotel, where you can comfortably sit and so on ... pluses) - the price is in favor of a taxi, oddly enough. Nothing strange: guides earn good money by paying a penny rent for a driver with a bus ... and taking good money from a dozen tourists even for one excursion. Yes, I'm not talking about that. If you have access to the Internet here, fluency in English, a share of adventurism and a desire to get to know Sri Lanka and lovely Sri Lankans, you can go by yourself. The rest is a matter of taste and adventurism.

so it is so .... but I still want to spend on my long-awaited vacation, but the fact that people who are specialists in this matter deal with you, on our trip to Lanka, we never regretted that we had a personal guide and driver

Forgive me for off top, but ... so many Kharkovites are discussing the "Sri Lankan" topic here - both Marusya and Mouse ... Maybe it's worth developing it over a cup of tea?
And there the "Club of Sri Lanka Fans" will appear and I will abandon my work as a guide to Lanochka - I will brew tea in Kharkov)))
аватар Marysa-Klimova
))) Lanochka, this is a thought)) of Sri Lankan tea, moreover, I have one more jar left, although it has been started.
аватар Lanka-Lanochka
Masha, you wanted to say "Ceylonese"))) There are no problems with that! It is necessary to whistle the Mouse - and appoint a time and place. You look, and we will relieve the tension in the question "Sri Lanka - with or without a guide?" )))
In fact, to each his own. If only the tour was fun and healthy!

Local guides are just guys from the street, so to speak .... no Russian. they don't even know history. Yes, a trip with such a guide will cost you many times cheaper. but whether it will be informative, and such that it will leave memories and impressions that can be shared - is unlikely. When visiting the country for the first time, in my opinion, it is worth taking a guide and an excursion through a tour operator, but if later there is a desire to visit the country a second time, then - you are welcome - electric trains, buses, extreme sports and so on. As they say - a miser pays twice .... so, the decision is yours, pay for a guide, or look for an aborigine on the spot
аватар lisava
I agree with you completely. But something else amuses - we still left the essence of the issue. I'm not so much interested in the price as in the package itself. Well, drinking tea once again is also useful. Upon arrival, I will join the tea party)))
аватар mishonok
I am for!! especially since I have a lot of questions about Lana, because a trip to this wonderful island is planned ahead again)) and there is still Ceylon tea in stock)))
аватар Lanka-Lanochka
Yes, it’s very easy to combine: upon arrival, an excursion program for 5-6 days (with a visit to the Cultural Triangle: Sigiriya (2 nights) - (optional +1 night): Polonnaruwa / Anuradhapura) - Dambulla - Kandy (1 night) (optional + 1 night : Hyunas Falls or Nukles or Nuwara Eliya).
After that: transfer to a hotel on the coast - and - on your own - after morning swimming and rest - radial excursions along the southwest coast: from Aluthgama to Galle, if you choose a vacation south of Colombo, for example, at the Lighthouse Hotel http://www. turpravda.ua/lk/galle/Jetwing_Lighthouse-h15245-r48711.html OR from Galle to Tissamaharama, if you choose to stay in the south, for example, in Tangalle - for example, in Tangalla Bay, see www.turpravda.ua/lk/ kolombo/Tangalla_Bay-h8839-r61156.html
