which hotel to choose?
We opted for Shi Lanka. Interested in the category of the hotel - 5. Everyone recommends Eden, read the reviews - not very much.
When choosing a hotel (besides what the usual five offers), it is important:
- proximity to the settlements (so that in the evening you can walk outside the hotel)
- animations in the hotel (at least music during the day =) )
- furniture and interior are not old
- clean beach and white sand!!!!!!
What is better BLUE WATER or Eden or your alternative opinion?

Royal Palm Beach in Kalutara. Outside there are shops and cafes. Even discos are held. True, I confess, I have not seen snow-white sand in Lanka.

I think that in this case Bentota Beach 4*+ would be a better choice.
It is located in the resort area, which means that the infrastructure outside the hotel is more developed.
The beaches in this part of the island (between Beruwela and Bentota, up to the Saman Villas hotel) are undoubtedly the best: spacious, with a gentle entrance to the water.
The hotel was recently reconstructed, and as for wedding ceremonies, they are polished in this hotel - everything goes like clockwork.
With all my sympathy for Blue Water, its beach is inferior to Bentota, and from the point of view of exploring the surroundings of Bentota, it is more attractive - an hour drive to Galle Fort arguments).
The sand in the southwest of Lanochka is not white (there are few coral reefs, but the finest with a hint of cappuccino foam. Which is no less romantic, believe me!

Decided on the hotel - Vivanta by Taj Bentota 5 * (ex. Taj Exotica)! Took the first 4 days of the tour. Lanochka, thanks for the review, we will definitely go to Halle! Think tuk tuk from Bentota.

I have an ambiguous attitude towards Vivanta: the project is spectacular, the location is wonderful (that’s why it is TAJ, that is, the “palace” in Hindi), but it doesn’t always add up with Sri Lankan hospitality and the level of service.
But let's hope the world is changing for the better, and Vivant's management takes into account the criticism at the end of the season :)
PS By tuk-tuk it's a bit far from Halle, all the emissions along the way will be yours. Better (as an economy option) take a regular bus (route 02) - funny, curious, the world of Lanka from the inside; and as a comfort option - a car, but then it makes sense to drive along Madu Ganga and look into the mask museum in Ambalangoda.
For walks in Halle, one would need to have information at hand. If you have booked a tour with our partners (i.e. if the host company is Jetwing)

A couple of years ago, we made such materials for our tourists: we want that, in addition to an organized excursion on vacation, they could explore the island meaningfully on their own. Fortunately, the cultural heritage in Lanochka (including in the southwest) is rich and varied.

I rested in Vivanta by Taj Bentota 5 * (ex. Taj Exotica) several times and Royal Palm Beach in Kalutara, I liked the second one more, although Taj Exotica was much better a few years ago when the main manager was another Indian, then the service was better and management tolerant, and the interiors with an abundance of live orchids generally left many hotels out of competition, now artificial flowers are in the interiors of the hotel: ((, h. Even if you take seafood in the Fresh Market - this is an open-air restaurant with fresh seafood, then carefully check the weight and bill, the manager there is especially distinguished by the desire to earn extra money. I ate deliciously in the Chinese restaurant and SEA VIEW in terms of a much higher level, and the quality of the prepared dishes was beyond praise. For a change, dine outside your hotel at the Golden Grill.

sweet.lo thank you for your concern. Today we returned to our homeland. According to Taj - lived on the last (6th floor). Of course, the Deluxe Delight room is still far away, but the view (pool, garden, ocean) compensates for all the errors. During the tour we lived in the chain of hotels Сhaaya. Honestly - the rooms and food in these hotels are on a higher level. In the vicinity of Taj visited almost all the restaurants. The most delicious crab, lobster and shrimp in Lacalus (despite the simplicity of the establishment, they cook amazingly there). They took crab in Amal, where it is more expensive (600 g - 2500 rupees + 22% tax), but the taste cannot be compared with the crab from Lakalus (600g - 1800 rupees + 10% service tax no), which is already cooked in lemon-lime sauce .

Take an anti-allergic drug (aleron, diazolin, another), treat the bites with tincture of calendula or a fresh slice of lemon. And try not to scratch.

Thanks Lanochka. Have been to a dermatologist. We take the anti-allergen Erius and treat the damaged areas with Advantan cream. Seems easier!

If about the location, then Emerald - from there you can get to Galle, and explore the surroundings of Bentota and Kozgoda. Unless, of course, you decide to get out of the hotel.
But Villa Ocean View has its own "pluses": the territory is more spacious, closer to Colombo, and it will take more time for the transfer. But the hotel itself is definitely not in my style, some kind of stale :))
Both are on the shore, so what's next is up to you.
