Although I would suggest the Trincomalee area in the northeast with the Chaya Blue and Nilaveli Beach hotels (there are no others, the excursion from this area is difficult). But there is sand (the whitest of all Sri Lankan), calm (in summer), corals for snorkeling on Pigeon Island .

Personally, in February-March, I had no problems with mosquitoes and other midges - Beruvella. Hotel *** is quite enough, the rest - the sea, or rather the ocean - is incomparable, especially for those who like to swim in the ocean. A storm at sea is one thing, and a completely different buzz from a wave (not a storm) in the ocean. That's what I love about ocean beaches. But this is not for everyone. For example, with a little excitement in Cuba, prohibition flags were put up on the beaches, but for us people who grew up at sea 2-3 balls, it’s a pleasure. The main thing is to correctly assess your strengths and be able to behave correctly in the ocean wave. I didn’t look for entertainment other than excursions, yes, in my opinion there are none on Sri. Excursions can be very interesting. Only an overnight trip to the turtle nursery is worth something - to release small, just born turtles into the ocean! And elephant nurseries, and jewelry workshops and shops! And tea plantations and factories! There just might not be enough time for everything.

Just got back. Booked a private tour of the main attractions. Agree with Fidel. IMHO, in Sri Lanka it is better to devote more time to excursions, because. nature and sights are really amazing. I also really liked the seins of Ayurvedic massage, shirodars, etc. If you are in the Bentota area, I can recommend a good salon. Hotels, of course, are rather weak, so the "beach" part of the holiday was not impressive. Vaccinations are not needed. Tamil movements are still going on. The optimism in previous reviews is encouraging, but a couple of hours ago, familiar Tamils reported that it was very unsafe. On the other hand, where is it safe now?

Yes, because Sri Lanka is 80% of the impressions of the excursion and 20% of the beach holiday. There are practically no reefs (i.e. there is no barrier from large ocean waves). The water is always muddy, snokling is difficult ...
