read terrible things before leaving
Good afternoon! I read many reviews about your hotel. I would like to live in it this year. But I read 21 messages, the reviews are very bad. People write that there is no hot water in the shower in the rooms, there are a lot of cockroaches and flies, the electricity does not work, the breakfast is poor, the rooms are dirty. I have already booked a room. At the moment I doubt it. Tell me is it true??? Can you tell me if there is hot water, fridge, kettle and hair dryer plug? Thanks..

gemtshugina_oke, owners or administrators of hotels do not live here. Very rarely come across those, since this is a forum for communication between tourists from the countries of the former USSR.
Negombo is, in my opinion, not a place for a resort pastime. They usually stop here for a couple of days or when they are not going to be in a hotel, but to travel around the island. From here it is very convenient to all attractions. The beaches of Negombo are not entirely clean, and at this time there are also big waves. There is no hot water in many hotels in Sri Lanka and living creatures in the form of ants and cockroaches crawl, there is nothing surprising in this. Chipmunks also run in.))) But in fact, you understand that you are going to an exotic country. Here it is customary to throw garbage right under your feet, and wash in the ocean. And you can live right on the beach in a hut made of palm leaves.
If you are used to comfort, then you are clearly not in Negombo and in general it is better not in the northwest. From Negombo to Chilaw everything is dull (IMHO)
Bendotta, Unawatuna, Tangalle, Trincomalee... I would go there
The truth will now appear on the Lanka-Lanochka forum, it will calm you down.)) And I say it like it is))

You choose a three-star hotel and want royal apartments. Alas, this does not happen. Personally, we lived in Negombo, but at the Dolphin Hotel, and this is 4, everything is super in the hotel, but the ocean is stormy, that we didn’t swim. In general, advice on Sri Don’t look for negativity in Lanka, it’s different, it’s a wild paradise with its exotic. If you are not a demanding tourist, you should like it. There is a chic fish market in Negombo

In general, this is not my first time in Sri Lanka, and I have already traveled around the island, I just don’t know Negombo very well, so I decided to go there, I like crowds, and Bentota and Indurava, where I was last time, were not only far from the airport, but also seemed I’m a little deaf in places, the water was always hot, the food was delicious, it’s just that they don’t write very much about this hotel, but I decided to take a chance and check it out.

The ocean was stormy last year, and it was possible to swim. But I love the fish market)) I'm not picky about the service, but a hair dryer and hot water are a must)) because I have a lot of friends there and I would like to look beautiful))

Why then take risks and spoil our nerves. For the first time, we lived in 10 hotels and lived all over the island, first in Negombo, it was stormy there, then we lived in Dikwella-south (just fine, no storm, but not calm), but already rested 10 days in Trincamoli, complete calm. That's when I realized what a wild beach is, 10 people in a hotel. Look at the hotel where I rested in November, when prices for Sri Lanka-Hotel Kosgoda Beach were greatly reduced in Ukraine Kosgoda resort, I personally really liked it, price-quality, near the city-village, like they have. The ocean was really a little stormy, but I love it like that, we have turtles laying their eggs right on the beach, we went to Khikaduwa, swam with turtles, We went to Nuwara Eliya, they lived in a hotel right on the waterfall. For the second time I planned excursions myself, we went with beach boys. And the first time I traveled all over Sri Lanka, but individually, with good hotels, but it cost more money.

I usually travel alone and love alone, one drawback, you have to ask to take pictures))

You know, if we are together, then I also ask my husband to take a picture with my camera near some interesting object. Well, there are very few joint photos in general. You have to ask someone, and this is sometimes inconvenient.

And what prevents you from taking a small tripod with you (when folded, it is like an umbrella and fits in a woman's bag or a simple package) I personally do this. And no problem. No one needs to be asked. A nice bonus is clear pictures in the evening or at night.
аватар gemtshugina_oke
Well ... a tripod is extra weight)) for me personally, I'd rather buy Russian chocolate for local children

tourexpert hahaha! very funny remark about a wonderful expert on the island. Someone who, namely Lanka-Lanochka will write everything as it is. She's just a positive person :) But in fact, this is how you need to live!
My personal opinion: Negombo is a great village. The most civilized of the entire west coast. Lots of good restaurants, shops; and the elite of the country also lives in this area.
There is always something to have fun here: go early in the morning to an amazing fish market, ride along the magnificent lagoon, not far from the capital of Colombo, and the elephant nursery in Pinnawala, and whale watching (though in season) ...
Stormy - yes, because here the ocean is open and there are no bays.
gemtshugina_oke, the Golden Star Hotel is the most ordinary three-star hotel, no frills. A large (by Sri Lankan standards) territory, a very good doctor in SPA / Ayurveda used to work at the hotel (now I can’t vouch).
But there is a caveat: there are several rooms with a view of the road. Usually in the summer the hotel is not packed "to the eyeballs" because they all settle with a view towards the ocean.
In my opinion, your impression of the hotel depends on how much you pay for it...
P.S.: nevertheless, think only positively and everything will be even better! ;)

nastya_lottour with Lanka-Lanochka, I had a dispute more than once about Negombo. Look at the history of my nickname, there is one of them. I traveled far and wide in Sri Lanka, and quite a significant part of my travels was on foot. I am sure that professional managers in Lottura build their knowledge not only from information tours and stories of tourists whom they send to some hotel. I share my impressions, a simple tourist who has lived in this wonderful country for more than one month, and not a travel agent or a person who lives and organizes holidays in Sri Lanka. Believe me, even though we treat Sri with the same love, each of the advisers pursues his own interest.
Just answer honestly. If you were asked by a tourist to advise a vacation spot from those listed by me: Bendotta, Unawatuna, Tangalle, Trincomalee. Would you persuade him to go to Negombo by talking about a wonderful morning trip to the fish market?
So what did I suggest?
аватар nastya_lottour
tourexpert, I didn't doubt your knowledge of Lanka for a second :) I just think that every resort on the island is created for "its" tourist.
It’s just worth understanding who is traveling with what mood, with what desires and goals)))
Personally, I would love to live in Negombo. But I would never recommend it to many of my tourists in my life :)

Of these places, each place has its own characteristics, and Negombo is not familiar to me, so I want to try))

What can you say about Colombo?
аватар nastya_lottour
In my opinion, there is nothing to do in Colombo for more than 1 day. Whatever one may say, this is a business capital with its crazy rhythm... In a day you can see the sights, spend 2-3 hours shopping in a shopping center and that's it...
You will not find beaches here, only in the suburbs (Mount Lavigna, the same Negombo, etc.)
аватар gemtshugina_oke
I don’t know why, but my heart tells me that I will feel good in Negombo)) I love bicycles, temples, fish markets and fishermen, I love it when there are a lot of locals
аватар nastya_lottour
gemtshugina_oke, definitely worth a try! Moreover, your mood, as I understand it, is very positive))))
аватар gemtshugina_oke
I have already returned, the rest was super and the hotel is excellent, I even posted a photo on other sites and gave them a good review .... I realized that not everyone needs to believe what they write .. find out for yourself ..
аватар gemtshugina_oke
Negombo is a very cheerful city and I didn’t have to be bored, I was 14 days and I don’t agree that this is a city for one night, it has everything: shops, discos, beaches, everything you want .... sorry for two weeks, it was necessary for a month to go)) The vaunted Bentota seemed to me worse in comparison, my personal opinion ...
