Is it worth going? What is the weather like on this coast in July?
Good afternoon, the wedding is coming soon and we want to immediately go on a honeymoon. Convenient dates July 1-3. So we think something more exotic to choose. Is it worth flying to Sri Lanka in the summer? How is the weather?
Thank you in advance

It's worth going to Sri Lanka. Just choose a trip to the east coast of the island, because in the summer during the rainy season on the west coast there are big waves in the ocean - you don’t really buy it, you will wallow in the pool! The rainy season is a purely relative concept, you will see few and short-term rains, the climate is tolerated very well (subequatorial zone), even better than in Thailand. We personally experienced all this, we rested in August 2012 on the west coast, not far from Colombo. There were 2 or 3 rains during the 12 days of our stay on vacation, not more (warm and short-term), but big waves in the ocean. Due to inexperience, we took a tour to the west coast, but the rest was a success, we do not regret it. A very colorful and picturesque region, the people are friendly. Russians and Ukrainians are loved, even the state. flags of Russia and Ukraine are flying over local cafes, many locals understand and speak Russian, though very broken, but understandable, oddly enough, and there are no hotel staff, although the vast majority work directly with guests from Russia and the CIS. In the summer there will be few of us, more Italians, French, Germans and Americans. If you want a nightlife and a varied life, then in Colombo. Go boldly, you won't regret it!

If your choice is the west or south coast. then you have to go to Unawatuna. You can swim here all year round. There are no waves like in Bentota and the water is not muddy because there are no rivers.
There are places to go out in the evening.

in Sri Lanka all year round I would not advise swimming like in the sea. The ocean wave is open and powerful, pulling back, even if it is gentle and almost imperceptible. Swim along the wave - yes.
The exception is of course the east of the island. Here are white beaches, the Pacific Ocean, diving ... But! You should be prepared for the fact that the infrastructure is not yet very developed here. That is, you will actually be on your own.
It really rains from 10 minutes to 2 hours, but then the sun immediately crawls out and everything falls into place :)
But it seems to me that you need to fly to Sri Lanka not only for a beach holiday. Here you need to travel around the island, watch cultural and natural values, communicate with people (by the way! FEW people speak Russian. Mostly the so-called beach-boys running along the beach and offering various services to vacationers), trying local cuisine, tea .. .
It seems to me that the impressions of this magnificent country, of its sincerity and kindness, will not be spoiled by any rains or waves :)
Fly for sure! And have a nice holiday!

Fly, Gadget :)
Lanochka is wonderful in any season (it is only important to outline the program where to go, where to live) and you will have a honeymoon in paradise! Nastya = nastya_lottour see answer above) knows what she is saying: she herself had a honeymoon vacation there, she knows the island, she will choose a worthy route and tell "cherished places" in secret.

And as for me, not the best choice for a holiday in July. High air temperature + high humidity is very uncomfortable.

you need either to the east, but it’s more expensive there and you don’t particularly travel from there to the sights of Sri Lanka (as an option, devote a few days to the sights on the way there). Or to the south (Unawatuna, Dikwella). It's nice there in the summer and there aren't too many people. in other places there will be strong waves in the ocean. But in general, Lanka-Lanochka and Nastya_Lottour are right ... Sri Lanka is a country that you can visit at any time and you really want to return there again and again!

I do not agree with NatashaS ... All summer and autumn it is easy and pleasant to breathe. It's hot - yes, but we fly to the exotic for the sun;)
But when changing in Sharjah, of course, leaving the plane, we felt what it really means to "breathe" :)
But of course, the taste and color ...))))

Tell me, where are the calmer waves in July, in Dikwella, Koggala or Beruwella? We plan from the first of July to the 10th!
аватар Lanka-Lanochka
in Dikwella there is a natural bay + picturesque,
in Koggall - definitely exciting, frontal wave + wind,
in Beruvella - where there is a reef, it will be calmer (the right extreme corner of the bay, near the Barberyn Reef hotel).

what about the weather from 1st to 10th July? they say continuous rains like a wall?

Tune in to the positive - and you will be happy. You will be afraid of warm and short (albeit often powerful) rains - and the sky will cry;)
