Eastern fairy tale
I have been dreaming of seeing Petra for a long time, but a one-day trip did not suit me, just as I was not going to take a vacation to Jordan, therefore, planning to spend it in Israel, I knew in advance that a three-day tour to Jordan was what I needed! So, having escaped in advance with the people who booked this trip for us, having arrived in Israel, they immediately paid for this excursion on the spot, the trip took place after 5 days. In addition to Petra, we had to get acquainted with the capital of Amman, Pompeii of Jordan - the city of Jeresh, once buried under the rubble of earthquakes, today, rising from the ruins. Visit the city of mosaics Madebe, founded about 4.5 thousand years ago. See with your own eyes a fragment of an ancient Christian map created in the Byzantine era. 7 km west of Madaba lies the famous Mount Nebo, the site of the alleged death of the prophet Moses and the place from where God showed him the Promised Land. There is a memorial park of Moses. The stele erected for the visit of the Pope in 2000 bears the inscription "God is One" in English and Arabic. Today on the mountain there is a temple built by the Franciscans on the site of an ancient sanctuary with mosaics of the 6th century BC. , and a modern sculpture of the Italian Fantoni from openwork iron symbolizing the greatness of God and the staff of Moses. From the observation deck of the mountain, a stunning view of the Judean Desert, the Dead Sea, it's a pity the domes of Jerusalem were not visible because of the haze. We visited the citadel of Amman, really liked the archaeological museum. We saw perhaps one of the largest banners in the world - the huge flag of Jordan. I was surprised that the Jordanians still use the ancient theaters for their intended purpose. And of course, a trip to Petra, centuries have passed, but the Nabotean structures have been preserved. This indescribable feeling of the unity of nature and the creation of human hands does not fit into the head, how in the mountainous desert people could not only build their city, but also breathe life into it, provide for the need for water? ! We discovered a little information about a country that is not as popular with us as its neighbors. Jordan is a unique country in the Middle East region, not without reason mentioned in the Old and New Testaments, its land keeps, according to various estimates, up to 20 thousand monuments of history and culture of past eras. It seems that this is only my first acquaintance with Jordan. It's too early to put an end... .
