In October 2006, my friend and I went on the Classic Sicily tour from Danko Travel Company. The host in Sicily is Norma Vacance.
The tour program was published on the Danko website, initially when choosing a tour we liked it more than others, and before departure at the airport, when we received documents, passports, tickets and a program, it turned out that the program was somewhat different from the one we were going to visit Sicily !
The flight is not direct, but with a change in Forli (this is such a "collective farm" in Italy near Rimini. ), On the same plane to Palermo. On the company’s website, a Russian-speaking guide was listed in bold type every day, and on the spot it turned out that “a Russian-speaking guide does not exist in nature, ” as our Russian-speaking guide in Sicily, Oksana, told us.
Upon arrival in Palermo, my luggage did not appear, as it turned out later, it remained in Forli (I found out about this only the next day! ) While we were looking for a suitcase in all the halls and filling out receipts for the loss of luggage (about 1 hour in total) going out to the meeting room - NOBODY met us. After running around the hall for about an hour (no one speaks Russian at night), we asked one of the greeters (Italian) to call our greeter indicated in the program, it turned out that she was in Catania - the other side of the island !! ! AND EVERYTHING!! ! She didn’t even hesitate when she found out that no one met her tourists. As a result, we drove for 40 euros (they were never returned to us !!! ) to our hotel, thank God it was indicated in the voucher. Nervous, please! In the morning it turned out that on our tour only 5 people had arrived from Moscow (including us), i. е. The 3 bus took away, but they decided not to wait for us (but cho 3 is more than 2! )
The most “interesting” thing turned out on the first day of the excursion - our group consisted of 6 people and we were attached to the German group - 15-20 people (besides them there were 5 Italians) and all excursions were conducted in Italian and German into a microphone for the whole bus! ! ! Oksana sometimes whispered in Russian, what she wrote out the day before in a half-sheet notebook, but immediately the Germans began to hiss at us that we were disturbing them. Throughout the tour, we only had breakfasts and dinners planned, and the Germans also had lunches, so we had to shorten the excursion program, drive with them for lunch and wait for them, hanging around nearby!
In all archaeological areas there was also a local guide who told everything in Italian and German. All we learned is what we read in a book on Sicily that we bought in Palermo.
And, just in case, information for those who are planning to go, in Giardini Naxos (a resort town near Taormina) there is a 3 * hotel (you can’t turn your tongue) called “Panoramic” here, in no case even for one night! This is such a shed! Horror! One shower is worth what a closet 50x50 cm and the curtain sticks to the body (brrr)! It's not clear who it's intended for.
After a week-long tour, we had planned a vacation at the sea, in the same place in Naxos, a 3 * super Holiday Club hotel. We really liked it, the territory is huge all around growing oranges, lemons, tangerines, bananas, olives. Rooms 2-storey! But the food! . . Breakfasts are very meager, and dinners - every other time. It is better to eat in numerous restaurants, pizzerias and cafes, very tasty! And you can find it not very expensive. True, it was not always possible to have lunch with their 3-hour break.
Sicily is a very beautiful island, but only our tour agencies know how to prepare a tour and send tourists so disgustingly, after which you can’t answer for anything! Neither Danko nor Norma Vacanza - no one cares about us, just to rip off the money! With so many groups, they should have provided us with a minibus, but apparently they saved money.
