alone in israel
I bought tickets and want to see the country on my own, tell me: 1. is it necessary to have medical insurance (I would be grateful for any advice on passing through passport control and customs, as I have read horror stories. 2. I can’t decide on hotels in Netanya (I will be 5 days - I plan excursions, and Eilat - a beach holiday for 12 days) I would also be very grateful for recommendations on organizing excursions

We went through passport control and customs at the checkpoint between Israel and Egypt in Eilat. Yes, and the border guards and customs officers are very vigilant. Slowly, but not at all irritable, on the contrary, deserves respect. Safety is paramount. We were with a small child, so we had boxes of juice with us, water got everything, checked each bag, they are very attentive to checking equipment. So cameras, laptops, etc. get ready to get it right away. We didn’t have medical insurance. The question about this didn’t arise anywhere.

onr19 - you went on an excursion. and a person will purposefully fly into the country and go through all the controls at the airport.
It's still better to buy insurance, it's not expensive
аватар onr19
No, we went to the country on our own, just flew through Egypt. And as for insurance, I in no way agitate not to do it. And I’m talking about the fact that we didn’t do it for a few days in Israel. That’s all.

insurance is not required! Take a look at the hotels on the booking / agoda, the figs will be determined here.
excursions, but isn’t it easier to go where you want to yourself ?!
аватар Kfhf-2008
If you have return tickets and hotel vouchers, then there will be no problems with passport control. There are also no particular problems with customs, although when leaving, they may be required to open a suitcase if any objects, such as cans, etc., are highlighted on the x-ray.
In Netanya, you can safely check into a 3-star hotel. Pretty decent. Many of them are located near the Mediterranean Sea. Tours can be booked on the spot. Buses collect tourists from hotels. Everything is well organized.
As for insurance, it's better to take it, it's not expensive. As a rule, it is not useful, but it is better"to play it safe ", Israel is an expensive country!
But a beach holiday in Eilat, as for me, is in vain. Hotels in Eilat are great, but not all have their own beaches. Walking to the sea in the heat is annoying. And the sea itself is not happy - it is cold, immediately deep, there are a lot of people, etc. I did not like. It is better to have a beach holiday in the same Netanya on the Mediterranean Sea.
And the Dead Sea will not leave without good impressions!
Have a good rest!

Excursions-isn't it easier to go wherever you want?
Not the country of Israel, where it is convenient and profitable to travel by yourself. The first is simply expensive, taking a tour will be cheaper than getting by public transport. Secondly, how to come by rental car, for example, to Bethlehem? Israeli cars will not be allowed there. There are many such nuances.
I myself have been choosing the moment to go to Israel for a long time - many acquaintances live there, many live here, but regularly visit Israel. All polls recommend only local agencies for tourism in Israel. These are all those people who travel around the world on their own. It just makes no sense, they say, to do it yourself.

First of all, you need to clarify about air travel. If you plan to see Israel, and then relax in Eilat, then the most convenient option is to fly a / to El Al. Departure to Tel Aviv, return from Eilat with a connection in Tel Aviv.
So it will be not only convenient, but also profitable - a / c El Al, as a rule, does not take money from passengers for an internal flight "Eilat - Tel Aviv". Moreover, sometimes such tickets cost a couple of dollars cheaper than just "... - Tel Aviv - ...".
This route is described in the story of my colleague from the St. Petersburg office of "Classic Travel" - here is the link http://blogs.turpravda.com/Nata_Classic/91345.html

thanks a lot for the recommendations. Tickets have already been bought and planned such a route: Netanya - Jerusalem - Eilat - Tel Aviv (departure from Ben Gurion). Now I'm thinking - maybe go to the Dead Sea instead of Eilat?

Now for the points.
item 1. About medical insurance. In previous posts, everything has already been said - you need to do it so that it does not come in handy later. Costs +/- $1/day.
2. About hotels and tour program. I agree with Kfhf-2008 that Eilat is not as exclusive as the Dead Sea. But the Dead Sea is not suitable for everyone either ... Therefore, I consider the THREE SEAS tour to be the best option for the first visit to Israel - here is the link http://www.classictravel.ru/
Most Russian and Ukrainian tour operators have programs with this name. They differ only in cost and content (not all of them provide overnight stay at the Dead Sea).
the choice of hotels is a separate issue. You need to understand who is used to what level. One will be satisfied with a modest "three-ruble note" at breakfast, and the other at least 4 * and with ALL meals ...

As for Eilat, if you don’t have any personal interests in visiting this particular city, or a desire to visit the Red Sea, then most likely there is no point in going. Indeed, hotels are not located near the sea and are not cheap. the view is worth a trip. If you do not plan any procedures, but just look and plunge, then the round-trip option for the day is acceptable. You can get from Jerusalem by regular bus that goes to Eilat. You get off just half way. Just check the schedule. They don't go that often.

“We didn’t have medical insurance. The question about this didn’t arise anywhere” - If it “gets up”, but there is no insurance, it will be too late to drink Borjomi, you will be left “without pants”.
аватар shlema
thank! I really don’t plan procedures - I just wanted the sea, sun and relaxation ... Maybe I missed something from interesting places and is there something else to pay attention to?
аватар onr19
We didn’t get to Haifa on our last trip, although we really wanted to. We also wanted to go to Petra in Jordan, but we were with a small child, so we didn’t try to embrace the immensity.
аватар onr19
I answer again about the insurance bill, as far as I understand the author of the question put it like this: Is it obligatory or not!? In accordance with this, the answers. I think it’s up to everyone to decide for themselves if there is a choice. But the statements that “without pants” are not appropriate in my opinion. Any sane person understands that under certain circumstances he takes risks.

About Eilat. There are about 10 hotels right on the shore of the Gulf of Eilat (exit either directly to the beach or through an underground passage). Here is a link to one of the most economical hotels on the first line:
http://www.turpravda.com/il/_ylat/Astral_Seaside-h24433-r89524.html
The beaches in Eilat are inferior to the Mediterranean in quality, but the flora and fauna are on the level!
about beaches and not only my colleague wrote here http://blogs.turpravda.com/Andrey_Classic/90697.html

thanks again, we decided to go to the Dead Sea instead of Eilat, now the next choice is which hotel - Lot Spa or Isrotel Dead Spa, both there and there the room is standard, we are not planning any special procedures

Last year, we turned to the Israeli Russian-speaking travel agent "Shturman Tourism and Recreation". Go to their site. They organize all transfers, excursions, hotels, etc. The guys are very conscientious, the prices are adequate and cheaper than those offered by our tour operators.
You can chat with them via email or skype.
We were provided with attention and care throughout our stay in Israel. Highly recommend!

Check out the Leonardo Club Hotel. Located on the very shore of the Dead Sea, food - all inclusive, prices are normal. Therapeutic mud is offered free of charge on certain days.

Eilat is not like the rest of Israel, although I did not see anything interesting there. The sea - yes, beautiful, a lot of fish, but the beaches are narrow and primitive.
The Dead Sea is worth seeing at least once, but there is nothing to do there for more than two days either.
Passport control in Ben Gurion is not annoying, the main thing is to behave calmly and naturally, even if you are tired. Do not show irritation and nervousness.
Good luck!

If you decide to replace the continuation of your holiday in Eilat with a holiday at the Dead Sea, i.e. combine vacation on 2 seas, I recommend the program "TWO SEAS - the Mediterranean and the Dead". It is convenient to go on excursions from Netanya or Tel Aviv, and then move to the Dead Sea and relax... Standard options for such a tour can be found here: http://www.classictravel.ru/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id =130&Itemid=251
Now about hotels. With all due respect to the Lot hotel, it is not even close to the Isrotel Dead Sea hotel !!! Both literally and figuratively :)
I have stayed at Isrotel more than once, I went to look at Lot. My colleagues also stopped at Lot. Our opinion - Lot is a competitor to Crowne Plaza or Hod, but not to the best hotel on the Israeli side of the Dead Sea - the Isrotel Dead Sea hotel.
You can read my review about this hotel here: http://www.turpravda.com/il/eyn_bokek/Isrotel_Dead_Sea-h23584-r79807.html

Now about advice.
Hotel "Leonardo Club" 4 * is good for everything, except for the price and location. In addition, this is the MOST noisy hotel on the Dead Sea. It has the most families with children (there are many more in Le Meridien). The reason is the type of food. Israelis love ALL, but there are no more such hotels on the Dead Sea (I don’t even consider the Leonardo Dead Sea hotel as an alternative - although it offers “like ALL” and it costs less, but that hotel has too many minuses).
the cost of accommodation at the Leonardo Club Hotel is comparable to the most expensive fives in HB (ie breakfast + dinner). At the same time, the level of it and the level of the Isrotel Dead Sea question mentioned in the post of the author of the question are two big differences!
аватар Alex_classic
And more about advice.
An offer to deal with a travel agency from the city of Haifa. To make sure that for 99.9% of tourists there is no point in dealing with a simple travel agency, it is really enough to go to their website. I have been on it before and I know that it is one of the many Israeli travel companies that offers services to local residents. Tourists from abroad are "earnings" :) Perhaps they are "The guys are very conscientious" and "the prices are adequate" with them. But they DO NOT ORGANIZE any excursions - they are just intermediaries between the excursion company and the tourist ...
The statement that their prices are "... cheaper than those offered by our tour operators" has nothing to do with reality! Perhaps the author of the post came across some wrong tour operators, but I RESPONSIBLY declare that the prices of Russian and Ukrainian tour operators are more than competitive. In addition, those who pay not somewhere abroad, but in their own country, are protected by law from both fraud and poor-quality service. In Russia, there are financial guarantees of tour operators for this, which are also valid when buying a tour / booking a hotel through a local travel agent!
And if you don't like it, you can make a complaint.
