Accommodation must be booked via the Internet and you can go wild. The Makarska Riviera is the southern part of the country. Italy - borders on the north, i.e. must travel from south to north. You need to put a visa allowing you to leave Croatia and enter back several times.

We didn’t pre-book accommodation (we prefer to always find it on the spot, and not take a pig in a poke), however, we didn’t go at the peak - the end of June-beginning of July. It was full of offers, even in the center of Dubrovnik. A visa to Italy - Schengen, must be done in advance (as far as I know, in Kyiv it costs 35 euros, not 100). The route is really Budva-Dubrovnik-Makarska Riviera (desired city).
