Through Hungary to Croatia
This year, Croatia will join the Schengen zone, we planned a vacation for a long time (by car, four of us, from Kyiv through Budapest to Croatia), but now there was a force majeure and we can’t all cross the Hungarian border by car in one day, friends the next day they plan to get to Budapest by plane, and from there the company will go to the beach. Question: having a Croatian visa, can one couple enter by car, and the second, the next day, fly (let me remind you that we are talking about Budapest), and leave together by car? Will this cause any issues when obtaining a visa?

There are no problems in such a route - you can describe your general route in a separate document, telling about the movements of each pair. But, having only a Croatian visa, neither you nor your friends will be able to get to Hungary. Having received a Croatian visa, you need to go to the Hungarian consulate and get there on the basis of a Croatian visa-Schengen type C for the purpose of transit.
Croatia is not joining anywhere this year yet - they just canceled the annual visa waiver for Russians and Ukrainians for the summer season. Yes, they will soon be Schengen, but it is not really known when this will come soon. Romania and Bulgaria already "for sure" from 2011 should have been in the Schengen area, but still nothing.
The opposite situation is that having a multi-Schengen you can get to Croatia through it, without a Croatian visa. But this is not your choice.

Croatia is joining the EU this year, it’s too early to talk about Schengen ... You must first get Croatian visas, then go to the Hungarian embassy with them - otherwise the Hungarians will not accept your documents for a visa ... well, as for the route , then how will you justify it, taking into account this Schengen visa and get ... by the way, the Hungarians have a preliminary appointment for the reception of documents, so look at the embassy website when, in principle, you will have the opportunity to apply for a visa

oops .... it turns out you are from Ukraine ... then about the preliminary appointment, maybe not quite right ... this is such a procedure in Moscow

Wow, thanks guys, now everything needs to be planned differently ...
Svetlana, yes, we are from Ukraine, there is a preliminary appointment with the embassy, but last year’s practice, the Hungarian embassy is very demanding, so we thought we could slip away from him, but we can’t see it ..(

By car, you can go through Romania and Serbia, but the Romanians also have a visa, although it has its own, but in terms of the package of docks and the meaning is very similar to Schengen. Serbia without a visa
The roads, of course, are worse, to put it mildly, than through Hungary, but they are beautiful)))
It is all the same to the Hungarians, to the Romanians. Since you are afraid of the Hungarians, then try to get a Romanian one. Well, or by plane directly to Split)))

There may still be Bosnia and Herzegovina along the way (depending on which part of Croatia to go to) - it is also visa-free. But there will be more travel time than through the Hungarian autobahn and there are also more borders.
IMHO, if these countries are not interesting, even if they are passing through, then the Hungarian Schengen or the plane is better)

Thank you. Nobody throws Hungary away, they just thought Horatia in the EU would make the trip easier, but it turned out the other way around :)) Now you need 2 visas, instead of one Hungarian one)) I'm more confused about how to file the docks now to open a transit Schengen, will there be any questions that the guys go there by plane, and back by car, that is, a one-way plane ticket ..?

And another question, if Hungary gives a visa, transit, can we stay in Budapest for a day, before Croatia? for example, on September 1, fly to Budapest, and the second only be in Croatia?

A separate transit visa was canceled in 2010, now you need to open a regular visa C for transit. Did you open it last year? Same way. Only before you brought a voucher or whatever, a hotel reservation, and now a visa. From such and such to such and such. If the visa is Croatian for a longer period, then you will indicate to the Hungarians your actual dates of entry and exit.
I still received type B in transit, until the cancellation. Then it was like this: Hungary gave Ukrainians 2 days for transit (2 for there, 2 for back). We presented a voucher from Croatia, say, from 10 to 20 August. So, from August 8 to August 22, entries-2. Days of stay-2 (for transit visas, this meant 2 times 2 days each). But then there were no visas to Croatia and we could have entered it even on 9, despite the voucher.
Now I can’t say for sure, if the goal is transit, then is it calculated that way. Or they just give a C visa for the entire stay in Croatia, with gaps of 2 days on each side...
If Hungary gives you transit, then an overnight stay in Budapest is just convenient - that's how we went. Day 1-Kyiv-Budapest, we spent the night there and the 2nd day is already more leisurely-Balaton, Ozal, Karlovac, Zagreb.

I think that now they will simply give you a visa with +2 days to the dates of your trip (Croatian visas) on both sides - this is for those who are by car, you don’t need to plus for air.
I think that the transit remained for 2 days, so 1 to fly in, and the 2nd to enter Croatia is definitely not a problem!
