The hotel is just a nightmare. The room was cleaned once in 12 days. The beach is full of hedgehogs, three people suffered from them. So, if you do not take a car, the rest will turn into torture.

For breakfast, of course, there was no variety, but after breakfast it was enough to be full until the evening. The only thing that did not suit me in the hotel was hot water. We lived on the second floor and it was not possible to wash our hair at all, because. after 2 minutes of rinsing, hot water disappeared somewhere.
Near the hotel there is a shop with inexpensive (relative to other shops) local wine and a tavern (you won't pronounce or remember the name, it's located 60 meters from the shop) with VERY tasty food. We visited many places during our vacation, but this tavern really tastes the best. There is a tavern Eleven nearby, but we never went there.
But in general, given that you need to travel around the island by car, then this hotel is just the right option to fly to Crete cheaply.
We spent 3 days out of 10 in the hotel, everything suited me.

We chose the hotel according to the following principle - the first coastal, in the middle of the island, so that it would be most convenient to travel around the island, of course the price is inexpensive, because. planning to rent a car for the whole time. The taste and color, of course... It depends on who and why is going and what he is counting on.
Yes, indeed, Petrinos is not designed to sit there all day! It's terribly boring and there's nothing to do there! Almost everyone who was there rented a car and drove around the island. For this, its location is very good!
Across the National Road (min 7 walk) there is a supermarket, next to it is a superb bakery - what is there just not there!! ! M-m-m-m-m!!! ! I still remember the taste of their cakes and cookies!
All rooms of the hotel with a villa on the sea. We slept with the balcony open all night. It is such a pleasure to listen to the sound of the sea! Split they have for a fee, like a safe, it seems 2 euros per day. We weren’t hot, we didn’t take a split.
Nearby is a wonderful cafe "11" (ileven) - everything is very tasty. And the wine and olive oil seemed to us the most delicious. The prices are normal (Greek, not cheap, given their crisis in the summer of 2011, with the strikes of taxi drivers), the portions are very large. The owner and waiters are very friendly.
Most of the hotel tourists took cars and excursions in Voyager from Roman, he was highly praised. But we did not reach it, it was far away (somewhere to the left along the old road it was necessary to stomp in the heat). We were not looking for easy ways, we got on the bus. we arrived in Rethymno, walked the whole coast there, found out that it is not easy to rent a small car at the height of the season, ordered a Chevrolet Matiz topless -)))) villages directly to the hotel (35 euros per day + gasoline 75 rubles per liter - not cheap! ). And the remaining 8 days we traveled almost all over the island, having rolled about 2 thousand km. And this is the best vacation here! It makes no sense to sit in a hotel in Crete! This is not Turkey or Egypt. There is no animation and all inclusive; here is a different type of holiday, so there is no point in buying an expensive hotel. Naturally, who did not like it - he just likes to relax in a different way.
Crete is washed by different seas from all sides. The northern coast is the Cretan Sea, with wind and waves knocking you down, sometimes not allowing you to go up to your waist! The southern coast - the Libyan Sea - is cool by a couple of degrees, but calm.
Riding through the mountain villages, watching the life of the Greeks is a separate pleasure. The mountain scenery is breathtaking! This is such power and strength! And the roads, citizens, are just a miracle! We were at the height of the season, on the National Road, of course, the traffic is quite dense, but in the mountainous rural villages - NO ONE!! ! Everywhere asphalt, good quality. But, beware of wild goats - they can run out onto the road very unexpectedly.
Traveling to the ruins is a waste of time. Frankly speaking, it's not interesting. It is a pity for the time spent on the Phaistos Palace and Gortyn. In hot weather, it's not much fun.
I really liked Rethymno, with its small streets, shopping shops, a good beach. Han, despite many good reviews, we were not impressed.
Elafonissi - pink sands - great, of course. But there, even from Stavromenos (where the hotel is located) it was far to go (about 200 km one way, along a terrible serpentine - Sochi is resting !!!! ). And it was very windy there, and therefore we quickly froze and returned back. But the area itself somehow reminded me of Thailand. There is little pink sand there. Food in cafes there is very expensive, take everything with you.
Lake Kourna is the only freshwater lake in Crete. They say there are turtles there, but we didn't see any, but we rode a catamaran (from 7 euros per hour, depending on the species), swam in the lake, fed the geese. It takes less than an hour to drive from the hotel to the lake, and you can take two roads - along the coast and along the mountains! To not be bored back, you can go back another way.
We were very happy with our stay! ! And you shouldn’t bother at the hotel, it’s only needed there for an overnight stay! Have a good holiday everyone!! ! Crete is great!

I agree with everyone who wrote above about this hotel - "sovdepovsky" hotel. In Russian, only "Hello, Please. " Cleaning every 2-3 days, there is constant sand on the floor, it’s not even clear where it came from, they took off their shoes in the corridor. Plumbing is on the verge of fantasy (I think even grandmothers are better in the bathroom now), in our room in the bathroom there was a cord from the bell. … More ▾ I agree with everyone who wrote above about this hotel - "sovdepovsky" hotel. At first they were at a loss - why? , and then they even found it convenient (they called the back to rub each other). Breakfast is poor, but we didn’t eat there. There was only one channel on TV - “Planet RTR”, some TV shows, programs about health, in general, we didn’t watch much. Relatives of the owners could come to the hotel, they came mainly during the day, when there were no guests it was, so they didn’t really strain. Boredom in the evenings.
They screwed up on the very first day, taking excursions and renting a car from Pegasus (although people warned). It turned out like this:
went across the road to dine in a tavern (not ELEVEN), where the waiter gave Voyager's business card, they have excursions 2 times cheaper and cars with a navigator. He showed me where to go, we walked along the nearest road to the hotel (there are three of them), we walked for a long time, but we didn’t reach it, or rather we didn’t find anyone (they had a siesta). We had to go on a long road. In general, they took a car without a navigator, of course, they frayed their nerves a lot. They have peculiar signs along the road and, moreover, they are overgrown with bushes, in general, at first they passed many necessary turns, and the turn could be after 10 km. Then, of course, they got used to it. We advise you to go to Lake Kournas, very beautiful! We went to Efinolosi on pink sands, the sea is cold there and the wind is with sand, this place was disappointing. I liked it very much in Francocostello on the black sands, the sea is also cool (Libyan), but it is very beautiful there. We went on an excursion to the Cretan evening in the village, one word is HEALTHY! We also went to the island of Gramvus, climbed 800m up the mountain on which the fortress, the view from there to the sea is amazing! The only big drawback of the rest (which ruined everything) at sea were strong waves, on the first day it hit the rocks. The beaches all belong to the city, so none of the hotel owners make breakwaters, so that there are no waves. When we went on an excursion, we took people from the village of Bali, it’s calm on the sea there, like a lagoon. Everyone on the bus was envious, especially when we chose the tour, we refused Bali, it was a shame. There are many entertainments in this village, and everything is cheaper. We went to Rethymno to the Fortezzo fortress, walked around the city. map (maps in English) where you can travel, she will stupidly offer her vouchers, don’t be fooled, she apparently has a percentage, so if you don’t take anything, she’s on ignore. I saw her 2 times, on the day of arrival, and before departure, she gives her phone number, but it is always turned off, she even wrote to the Pegasus website about it. Believe me, we are not pretentious people, when we read the same reviews, we thought that people were just biased towards everything, but no, it turned out that everything was true. Before that, I was in Egypt, and so I liked it there more, although not particularly where did not go, but the SEA in Egypt is a hundred thousand times better!

We traveled together with a friend, chose another hotel, but did not get places, I had to take what was left.... Hotel certainly shocked. . To be honest, it cannot be called a hotel at all - an ordinary village house (like a private sector in the Russian south in which rooms are rented) The only thing that distinguished it from our south was two pretty pools right by the balcony and a beautiful view of the sea! The room is generally ordinary (we are not pretentious at all) but the toilet - shower - it's something!!! ! I didn’t even think that such sanitary ware exists abroad!! ! (Russia in the 70s, a communal apartment! ) A toilet bowl and a sink and a shower from which water pours onto the toilet bowl are cut down with an ax !! ! And the soundproofing. … More ▾ We traveled together with a friend, chose another hotel, but did not get places, I had to take what was left.... Hotel certainly shocked. . And the soundproofing.... sorry for the details - you fart, you can hear it in a nearby hotel! And laughter and sin! No service - they cleaned the room once, breakfast is sooooo poor! Cheese-sausage for a little bit - - whoever managed first, took the rest in flight, they really don’t like to report! . ! And they also put a bowl with homemade plum jam - although it was comforting, it was delicious, but donuts every 3 days. But after 3 days they ate that jam, so the owners put sour jam - just carbonated! Then we bought our own - cheese-sausage-yogurt-buns and ate, only drank coffee! They don’t speak Russian at all! (Or they pretend to be faster! Cunning eyes! ) T. They do not lead a normal life - they call guests, relatives, they drink, sing, dance - the guests are on their own. . . RESULT: if you need a hotel just to spend the night, it will be enough, considering the price. We left early in the morning and arrived late. Rented a car. But if you live there - you will die of boredom - the village is deaf, even during the day there is nothing to do, there are no cafes to take a walk (and what there are - tasteless, disgustingly expensive! ) In the evening, darkness is all around! One store, to which it is decent to stomp! towards Rethymnon, to the next village or Rethymno itself - life is in full swing there! At every step there are barkers, the competition is huge, therefore it is inexpensive and very tasty - for every taste-wallet! The only plus of the hotel is the cleanest sea - in front of the hotel there are stones and hedgehogs, and a little to the left, the sand in the water is awesome! But the sea in Greece is gorgeous everywhere - perfectly clean !! ! In general, next time, of course, we won’t go there! In general, ideally, rent a car (you can immediately from home via the Internet), and choose a hotel on the spot, you can generally move around around the island and changing hotels - it's even more interesting! In general, Crete is full of beauty and even a similar hotel does not spoil the picture! This is an unforgettable vacation !!! ! ! !

In fact, the hotel is called Petrino and it is located not in Sfakaki, but in Stavromenos, these two villages smoothly flow into each other, separated only by signs on the federal highway. The hotel is small, in the neighbors - Alkina with a zhlobsky owner (or maybe it was the attendants, I don’t know) and the Eleven tavern - knowledgeable people recommend taking only coffee and grilled fish there, we confirm, the rest is so-so, but they found sand in shrimp in general. … More ▾ In fact, the hotel is called Petrino and it is located not in Sfakaki, but in Stavromenos, these two villages smoothly flow into each other, separated only by signs on the federal highway. But an amazingly beautiful waiter! : ) And a beautiful view of the sea from the open terrace. Behind our hotel bordered on the usual such a village house with a manor - there are all sorts of lambs, planting tomatoes, potatoes, and roosters! The bastards yelled at 5 am! But you get used to it quickly, and the window overlooking the backyard can be closed, then nothing will be heard.
The territory is really small - but very clean and a lot of all kinds of flowers, palm trees there, oleanders, orange and lemon trees. I'm not a botanist, I couldn't recognize a lot. Nice and clean, every day Malvina walks around the reception desk soap. The pools are also always the cleanest, only one morning after a strong wind, garbage was brought there, and they removed it only by lunchtime. What I didn't like was that the water in the pools was warmed up a little only on cool days, in the heat it remained too refreshing : ). And it was always colder than the sea...
The place is just wonderful. A bad entry into the sea with stones and sea urchins, which live in abundance in them, is rather a plus than a minus, since it ensures the deserted beach. You feel like a complete hostess there. And right in front of the gate leading from the hotel to the beach, on the last day of our stay, a sea daffodil bloomed : ) We were too lazy to take a picture of it, but the Internet is already full of photos of this fantastic flower. There is a beautiful beach for swimming nearby, though it’s not very easy to get to it - either through the territory of the neighboring hotel Alkina with a zhlobsky owner or service (if you run into it, they won’t let you through), or along the sea along a stone wall (shallow, but stones, and when the sea is rough, the surf beats), or along a slippery stone path along the same wall. Once I got off this path, the bruise has not yet disappeared. But that beach is very good - deserted (in September), golden sand, entry into the sea is very gentle, conditions are almost ideal for children (for complete ideality, there are not enough water slides : )).
Now about the apartments themselves. We got a two-room apartment, not a studio. Purely by the kindness of the owners, because they are designed for a family with two children. However, there were no such rooms in the hotel, and all children's families got into such rooms. The kitchen is large, the bedrooms are not very good, but, by the way, why more? In one bedroom there is a double bed, a large closet with mezzanines, a TV set. the other has two single beds. satellite TV (didn't find out how many channels there, Russian 1), Wi-Fi Internet - free of charge. But the Internet is caught only in our (2) room and at the reception. There is a suspicion that satellite TV is also (a neighbor's boy went to visit us to watch cartoons). They clean the room and change bed linen and towels 2 times a week, very carefully. Of the minuses - there is no bath, and a shower without a curtain - eternal puddles on the floor. Of the minuses of the kitchen - there is no oven and the second burner of the tile is terribly small, under the Turk (there are no Turks, only ladle). Enough crockery, space too. Actually, this is a nice little two-room apartment : ) In the bedrooms, instead of windows, there are sliding glass doors to our small terrace with a table and chairs (wicker with soft pillows). Sea view - right from the bed : ). By the end of the stay (the last days of September - the beginning of October), the hotel was completely deserted. However, before there were almost no people. Yes, we ourselves basically only spent the night there : ). Another nice thing is that the hotel parking lot is enough for all the guests. Even arriving almost at night, they always found a place. Stavromenos is almost in the center of the island - other reviews have already written that Petrino is an ideal base for car travelers. Convenient close access to the highway.
The food is not that scary, it just does not shine with a special variety and local flavor. Quantitatively - more than enough, Malvina carefully monitored this, and replenished the dishes and the coffee pot in time. The menu is quite ordinary - sausage, cheese, butter, olives, chocolate paste, jam, boiled eggs, fruits, tomatoes, cookies, cereal, milk, tea, coffee, juice. Once the milk was diluted, but only once.
In the end, there is the Eleven tavern nearby, a little further there are a bunch of others (I recommend Adrian, 5-10 minutes towards Rethymno, where we were served the most delicious Greek salad of all that we ate in Crete). And they always serve a compliment there (this is not the case everywhere) - grapes, cakes or something else), and supermarkets around. The closest one is across the street. If you go further from it, the gas station will be bigger and cheaper (there is still brandy on tap). A little further away there is a small shop, somehow connected with the cats of Crete (whether it is charitable, or something else, I did not understand). I bought a nice little summer bag there for 1 euro : ) There was also a whole rack of all sorts of simple summer clothes for the same price.
There was a fish shop very close to our hotel, it sold fresh sea fish. The fresher, the more expensive. The sellers gutted it themselves right about me (already after the purchase).

As a result, we scored on them and simply bought all sorts of cuts in stores, fortunately, there was a kettle in the room. Yes, what else: an uncle with a rented car came to us, so his owners just screamed out. It turns out that they have an agreement concluded only with our operator (as usual, at exorbitant prices), and the rest here - no, no. The main disadvantage: the owners speak VERY bad English. Although, it is likely that they can, and they pretend that they do not understand. A friend who came with us did not work in the room, sorry, the descent in the toilet. The whole week that he lived there, he tried to convey this to them. Or move to another room. Useless. They smile and don't understand. But since we only showed up at the hotel to spend the night, it didn’t really bother us. The backlight in the pool turned on the first two days, and nothing more. Then - total darkness. We changed our linen three times in two weeks. . I can’t recommend this hotel to anyone, although there is still one plus: next to it is the Eleven tavern (the name is simply explained: 11 km from Rethymnon). We became very good friends with its owners and we still correspond with each other.
