Georgia skiing.
Our two-week trip to Georgia consisted of two parts - a week-long ski vacation in Gudauri and an educational excursion with accommodation in Kutaisi and Tbilisi. What is Gudauri ski resort? These are hotels and apartments scattered along the Georgian Military Highway. From Lower Gudauri to the ski area you need to go by car, you can go down on skis along the path in the ravine (mini freeride : -))))))). From Upper Gudauri, you can ski down to the armchair and return home on them. In general, Gudauri reminded me of our Dragobrat (only much better). The same isolation from the mainland, the lack of a centralized infrastructure in the area of residence, small hotel rooms, relatively expensive accommodation. The main advantage of Gudauri is a small number of people on wide, long tracks on weekends during the high season and their almost complete absence at other times. For 6 days of skiing, I never stood in line (1-2 minutes a couple of times I do not count as a queue). In addition, the snow is natural, the armchairs and especially the gondola are modern. Altitude of 2000-3000m allows you to ski for the whole season, from the moment of snowfall. Yes, I almost forgot, Gudauri is a paradise for freeriders and heliski lovers, but I'm not on this business. On the blue and red slopes, it is absolutely not dangerous to fly off the track - there are no trees, stones, cliffs, you just get into the freeride zones)))). For my wife, the blue slopes 4A and 4B turned out to be ideal - straight, gentle, short. The son, in addition to these, rolled the blue 7A - long, in the second part difficult for dummies. The wife was very tired of it. IMHO, this blue track practically does not differ in complexity from the red 2A passing nearby (in some places they even connect). There is also a rather simple blue route 1, but it quickly broke up, and the snow was wet there (beginning of April, after all). On the mountain, we had a snack at the gondola in a cafe with a sign only in Georgian (a one-story building with a green roof). The prices are super cheap. On the 10th day, you will eat delicious Georgian dishes so that you can’t master even half of it at dinner. In general, I recommend everyone to go to Gudauri and form their own opinion. Until another change for the worse began in Georgia. Especially if you are not a happy owner of a multi-Schengen and suddenly decided to go skiing tomorrow. A visa to Georgia is not needed, air travel is quite affordable, travel time is minimal, especially if you fly directly to Tbilisi. Our trip budget (if we take only a ski tour) for 3 people was about 2000d.
