This 3* hotel is quite good for its price.
There is almost no hot water in the room in the house - no pressure or temperature. No hair dryer or refrigerator. There is no toilet brush in the toilet. Ventilation is only natural - through an open window.
Towels are completely absurd. At first, the two of us saw two washed-up towels, one small and one large. After I explained that there should be two sets of large and small, the small was changed to large. At first, a small towel was thrown at his feet in the shower, but he lay there for only one day and was also taken away. Detergents do not replenish given only one soap-tablet.
The hotel staff does not react quickly to all sorts of inconveniences that arise during the holiday. The Jacuzzi worked for two days, then broke down and no one repaired it before leaving. Hot water was not supplied to the room.
Two days before departure, the washing machine broke down and there were problems with beach towels. There are many birds in the hotel, but do not rush to clean up the consequences of their activities. In our house at the entrance, the wall was plastered throughout the holiday. The hotel service is very tasty on tip. You do not need to let the receptionist carry a suitcase to the room, because he expects $ 5 for it. When settling, they try to hint at a surcharge for the best room. Blank check forms can be signed by waiters as tips. Those who bring drinks, you can also give some of your drinks to the room, they are also happy to accept it.
As for all-inclusive, the system is incompetent because for our drinks (water-beer) you need to apply separately at the reception every day and then sign the bill. Juices also need to be ordered separately and signed for each glass.
When leaving for a tour, for some reason, only Ocean Villa does not give out lunch boxes and does not leave the evening for those who return later.
As for the tours themselves, the prices listed in the program are very high. We used the services of local guides. To their credit, many people are fluent in Russian and have not learned anything about English since the age of seven. Across the street from the main gate of the hotel behind the track lives a Sinhalese named Sam. We made three excursions with him for a rather modest fee and he offered a bonus trip to Gali. Very nice and nice person and his family.
The country has left an unforgettable impression, but the hotel does not encourage a stay in it. This is not surprising because after the thirty-year war with the northern separatists, which ended recently, tourism is just getting back on its feet.
We arrived at the hotel around 6:00 am. We were seated right away, without waiting for the official check in time, WITHOUT ANY SUPPLEMENTS! ! !
Room in the main building, on the third floor, overlooking the ocean (by the way, the building is built in such a way that all rooms have a view of the ocean - more precisely, on its fragments, because due to the dense foliage of palm trees, the ocean is partially visible) .
The room is large and spacious. The room, in addition to furniture, has:
- refrigerator / minibar (free of charge, while tourists in villas had to pay extra 10 USD for using a refrigerator);
- ironing board + iron;
- kettle (tea, sugar, water bought on their own);
- LCD TV (no Russian-language channels);
- bath and cosmetic accessories (received three times for the entire period) + hair dryer.
Water 1.5 liters free of charge daily (but it was not enough for three because of the warm, humid climate, so I had to buy it).
Safe at reception, free of charge. But somehow we forgot to hide the laptop and went on a two-day excursion - no one stole anything.
Sockets with three holes. At the reception they give an adapter for a deposit of 200 rupees.
Cleaned daily, there were no complaints about cleaning.
But the towels were. Towels in the room and on the beach must be replaced in general, with new ones! ! ! We took our own after reading previous reviews.
Meals: the menu included: scrambled eggs / scrambled eggs, milk oatmeal, cereal + milk, rice, noodles, chicken curry, fish, curry, curry peas, tea / coffee, toast / buns / croissants without toppings, a couple of times there were corrugated waffles + jam or syrup, passion fruit / pineapple / watermelon / bananas / papaya, fresh juices (either watermelon and passion fruit, or orange and watermelon, or orange and ice coffee). As you can see, the menu is not varied, but I also didn’t want to spend time in the morning looking for breakfast.
Entertainment: there is no animation in the hotel (and how can you get good animation in Asia?! ), but the tourists entertained themselves with tennis, badminton, volleyball, cricket. There are two pools (the rest is decorative): one for water polo (which was always empty), and the second is divided into sections: regular, children's, jacuzzi. There was a disco on weekends, admission was free, cocktails 595 rupees. Wi-Fi free, at the reception.
Territory: big beautiful, BUT! ! !
, the chain-link mesh (by the way, all normal hotels enclose their territory from the side of the beach so that local "entrepreneurs" do not interfere with tourists) is really depressing and needs to be replaced.
We dined in a cafe at the Passat, through the railway. d road. Tasty and inexpensive. He also bought a two-day tour of Sigiriya-Dambula-Spice Garden (I don’t recommend anything about anything) - waterfalls - the royal botanical garden - the Temple of the Tooth of the Buddha - Kandy - an elephant nursery - a tea factory. The tour came out cheaper than the hotel guide for 100 USD. e.
Passat also drove free of charge on his tuk-tuk to Kalutara (he has a "promotion": "I have you yum-yum, I'll carry you on a tuk-tuk for free. " And in general, of all the Sri Lankans, the Passat gave the impression of a decent person, so to speak exception to the rule.
But "outside the fence" organizers of excursions disappointed.
Tip for tourists: clearly find out what will be included in the tour, whether the price will include visiting objects or, as it turns out later, you pay only for transport services. And it’s even better to scare (in my opinion, the Sri Lankans are a little insolent and deliberately deceive tourists) that if you are deceived, then you will not pay ...in general, some of the money was returned to us, but the sediment, as they say, remained.
On the last day of their stay, Monika was caught. Ride 1000 rupees, just a photo - 500. Of course, they photographed the child when he rode))
Tips for tourists: 1. Sunscreen with a very high protection factor (for 10 days we burned, peeled off and burned again, despite the fact that we were few on the beach, we moved more);
2. Mosquito repellent (one bottle lasted only 3 days);
3. Tea and spices are cheaper in the supermarket than on plantations.
I recommend the hotel, because
in its price segment, it fully complies with the price = quality criterion.
And I advise all "auditors" ala Olya Freimut to rest in Turyaa 4 * / 5 * and Citrus Waskaduwa 4 * / 5 * located in the same region. But the prices are different there.
NUMBERS. We deliberately booked a Superior room in the main building from home, because we knew that the villa was full of sadness (there is no hair dryer, no refrigerator, everything is very old, a shower on the floor, etc. . ) In the main building, the Superior rooms are more spacious, with high ceilings, air conditioning, fan, very decent bathroom, large balcony, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, there was also a TV, but there are only a couple of channels, there is neither Russian nor English. Towels were changed without any problems, the bed for 16 days only once and then for some kind of dirty one. They put water in the room for 2 days, and then they ran out of water, to my question the manager said that the hostess had problems with the supply. At the same time, this bottled water was supplied to the locals without interruption. The floor was never washed in the room, not swept either. Soap and shampoo were installed twice in 16 days... Then the cleaner was not allowed in, they just took towels and paper and cleaned it themselves.
MASSAGE AND GOOD PEOPLE. There is a massage in the hotel, but sooo expensive.
So the pros:
- not far from the airport
- clean beach, few people
- a large green area, clean, there are chipmunks, birds, they bring the elephant Monica, she is a cutie
- there are all three types of food
- the room, though not the newest, but clean, cleaning every day
- linens are changed every other day
- you can ask for a hairdryer and a kettle
- 2 bottles of water are brought every day
- there is a balcony
- the food is quite varied, a lot of fruits, cool desserts for dinner, a lot of fish, fruits: papaya, bananas, pineapples
- Swimming pool and jacuzzi
- for a quiet relaxing holiday with fresh juice in hand
minuses:
- old repair
- the staff does not speak Russian
- food may seem too spicy to someone and a little cape
Settled quickly, immediately, fed breakfast (on account of the transfer from the last day). The room was given in bungalow houses on the 2nd floor overlooking the ocean, everything was as requested when we booked the hotel. Clean, standard, like 3 stars, a nice balcony, air conditioning, a propeller under the ceiling, I recommend turning on both the air conditioner and the fan, you won’t catch a cold ....
The toilet room is ordinary, all tiled, everything is washed, everything works ...the toiletries were all there, replenished if necessary ...The room was cleaned every day, the sheets were changed every 2 days, water was brought 2 bottles every day (did not remind once) after 15.00. The boy who served our room was immediately presented with a set of sweets (I took it prudently "just in case", but in general we like to travel and carry gifts to the reception and service staff. It is always pleasant for everyone to receive gifts and attention. And the Sri Lankan people are not spoiled. Then thanksThen thanked in rupees every 2 days, left on the bed. No complaints, everything was fine. About the towels, YES they are old, but clean Every day, if you need to change, put on the floor or on the toilet lid, this is a sign to change. If your muzzle yearns for a homemade towel, then bring your favorite with you, I see no obstacles.
We were fine with their towels, but the management should pay attention to this, which we said with love and wishes at the end of our holiday. Territory is great!! ! Large, well-groomed, cleaned, scrubbed, cleaned every single day. We rested in paradise, with birds, chipmunks, herons and iguanas, with the elephant Monica and received only positive emotions. I generally keep quiet about the greenery surrounding us, the riot of colors, otherwise I want to roar and go back ...Roar with happiness that there is a paradise !!! ! And this every morning, The sound of the ocean, the sounds of nature and we .....bliss. Coffee by the ocean.....dreams always come true!!! ! Yes, they took their own coffee, strong and favorite brand, they have a very weak one in the restaurant ....this just doesn’t suit us. Speaking frankly. we always take our coffee wherever we rest (except in Italy), or where there is no Starbucks.
The food is varied, tasty, made with love and clean - all I can say is that there are spicy dishes, read write spicy, don't take it. It was delicious for us, we love spicy food. Grilled fish, pork and chicken every Saturday. In the morning, in addition to everything, fried eggs or scrambled eggs with vegetables. Everything else is a European buffet like everywhere else. Juices I note not yupi (as some wrote), this is a lie! Ordinary fresh watermelon or papaya or pineapple or assorted .....Fruits were in the morning and in the evening, mostly pineapples, papaya, watermelon and bananas. Overeat. Desserts in the evening, the choice of meat is not great, we love fish, it is every day. In general, I round off with food, everything is OK! As for the Sri Lankans themselves, they are friendly, grateful. people ready to help. we also became friends with the staff who served us in the restaurant, with those who cleaned the room and cleaned the territory, with the security of the hotel. they treated them with sweets, and they treated us with fruits, flowers ....
but I want to say "they were the first to start ... " we were just attentive and friendly, everyone in the hotel knew us ...why I won’t say . . I don’t know ....hotel security works around the clock, locals don’t even step into the hotel. They left things on the sunbeds, there are no problems, they are watching. look ....Let me give you an example, we are returning from dinner. The guard comes up and says. that I left my dress on the beach on a lounger. I assure you that no, we took everything, but he didn’t forget ...We thought he was confused or mistaken, they said OK, but did not go to check. and go to the room. What a surprise it was when after breakfast we came to "our place". and they saw a folded dress on a lounger, I was really confused ....I hung it to dry on the side and forgot ....the first days I swam in clothes, otherwise they burned completely .....And with creams and with strong SPF, it’s all the same the sun is always at its zenith (the equator is 600 km) nearby and the sun uhhhhhh We talked in English and learned a few words in Sinhalese.
they were very pleased to hear greetings and gratitude in their native language. Also, dear vacationers, do not shout loudly in Russian from which room you are, they will not understand you because of the loudness ...learn English, or ask Google to translate what your room number sounds like in English and tell the administrator at the restaurant when you come for breakfast or dinner. And then the picture is comical when the lady yelled in the manager’s ear “I have number 79, don’t you understand ?? ? and then increased the decibels .....he doesn’t understand ....he knows Sinhala, English, Tamil, but he doesn’t know Russian ....here’s an ignoramus .....(hee hee) ....LEARN English at least a little, we are also "lovers" .....In general, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of our wedding- The weather in April is wonderful, it rained only 2 times, the first one started at about 21.00 and lasted about 15 minutes, the second one in the evening and lasted about an hour, the rest of the time it was hot and the ocean was hot!!!!
As for excursions, since it was the end of the season, there are few people (thank God) to go here only at such a time we liked the peace and quiet. , We were told to look for yourself where to go, we were prepared people. Found on Sheldon's forum recommendations, local travel planner! Umnichka, we can safely recommend. Honest, looking for an individual approach to everyone, pleasing, we planned everything, showed us everything, took us, saw, told us . . The prices were great. We helped and found those who wanted to travel to Colombo and it cost $ 7 per nose, there were 7 of us. Auto with air conditioning. I drove sights along our route + my route from what we missed + tells everything in Russian, + I didn’t mind shopping where we planned. but he helped ...Everyone was satisfied, because the guys did not know what to buy where and how much it costs, so they were lucky with us.
Then we went to Galle Fort, a turtle farm in the mangroves. We saw crocodiles. monitor lizards and monitor lizards, their babies, chameleons, a large turtle, a small crocodile, one of the locals brought a picture, I report - alive, healthy, we were neat. Multi-colored birds, flying dogs and monkeys in "freedom" "thieves of watermelons and teasers of local dogs. Exotic! ! And of course we were happy as children when the local monks brought Monica the elephant!!! ! It's a delight!! ! So big and beautiful! ! !!! ! I wanted to write briefly, but it didn’t work out ......Of course, the most important thing is the ocean, nature and everything blooms and chirps !!! ! The wonderful country of Sri Lanka !!! ! We miss you already !! ! . Yes, the dollar was 143 rupees, change at the airport, it's profitable. Tuk-tuk near the hotel 100 rupees there and back (I mean, well, to the supermarket or to the market ... ). Mango 200 rupees 1 kg, bananas from 79-150 rupees per 1 kg, papaya-150 rupees.
for 1 kg saucep 300 rupees, passion fruit 1 pc. 50 rupees, coconut on the beach 100 rupees, and on the road from 30-70 rupees for 1 piece. We wish everyone to be and enjoy Sri Lanka!!! !
