Day ten of the tour "two poles of passion" - Segovia - the eighth wonder of the world

In the morning, again, an excellent breakfast at the Chamartin Hotel, and we check out of the hotel. Today at 8-00 we go on an excursion to Segovia. The tour is optional, so not the whole group goes. 3 tourists stay in Madrid and the bus will return for them to pick them up from Plaza Españ a at 12:30 pm.

It is 93 km from Madrid to Segovia, and the guide for Segovia, Lada, travels with us from Madrid. Along the way, she told us about the history of Segovia. And when we drove past the valley of the fallen Heroes, she told about this memorial and about the Escorial monastery.

There are no visits to these places on this tour. Thanks to this, we had more than 4 hours to visit Segovia. We arrived there at 9:30 and left at 14:15.

The bus brought us to the site directly to the aqueduct, and we started the photo session without wasting time. This wonder of the world deserves the closest attention.

After all, this building was built about two thousand years ago, without cement in a dry way, and it still stands. Our contemporaries do not know how to build like that. The length of the aqueduct is 728 m, and the maximum height is almost 29 m. The water in the aqueduct came from a mountain river located 15 km from Segovia.

Lada gave us maps of Segovia, and we started our journey from the aqueduct through the streets and squares of the city, with stops, slowly passed through Juan Bravo Square to Mayor Square, then past the cathedral to the Alcazar. It should be noted that it was in this palace that Isabella was crowned as Queen of Castile. Segovia, like Toledo, is a city of ancient temples and monasteries. And the city spares no expense to preserve them. Alcazar is located on the very edge of a mountain cliff and is separated from the mainland by a very deep moat. Even in our time, its formidable and impregnable appearance is striking. The palace itself is now a museum.

Near the Alcazar, the last stop of the tour, and we have free time. And then our group disperses in all directions. As I later realized, almost everyone went shopping.

At first we wanted to go to the Alcazar, but then we decided that after the royal palace in Madrid, we might not like it here. Therefore, we only take an outdoor photo at the palace, and begin to return the route we have traveled back. We reach the cathedral, and I decide to go to the cathedral on my own. My husband does not want to go with me and stays in Mayor Square. We agree to meet him at the square in half an hour.

Entrance to the cathedral is paid 3 euros. I go to the cathedral alone, none of the group members expressed a desire to join me.

The outside of the cathedral is very beautiful, this style is called "flaming gothic".

First of all, we are looking for a book in souvenir shops, and hooray, we find it. Well, with a handbag, the situation was more complicated, I had to go through almost all the leather goods stores until I found what I liked and fit me. So time flew by for shopping, and we must already move to the collection point.

But before boarding the bus, you still need to visit the toilet. We already knew that there was one at the bus station, and we headed there, and almost the entire group had already gathered there, everyone was preparing to leave. On the way to the aqueduct, we still managed to visit a local supermarket, and bought food and beer for the road and for dinner.

Segovia has left us with very pleasant memories with its unique originality, unaffected by modernity, the atmosphere of a medieval city, their unhurried way of life. Even tourists could not disturb this measured and unhurried order in the city.

The group is punctual as always, and so we go further, and our path lies to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean for an overnight stay in the resort of Anglet-Biarritz. You have to drive 454 km there. But our driver Mariusz is a professional, and at 20 o'clock we check into a hotel called Hotel-Residence Mer&Golf 3*.

We have a three-room suite with a kitchen, a bedroom and a nursery. But now we are not up to looking at the number: we quickly left our bags, and the very first of the group run to the ocean. It was already dark, but not far from the hotel there is a lighthouse, and its rays pierced the mysterious twilight surrounding us. The hotel has its own beach, but the coast here is steep, and there is no way to go straight to the beach. It was necessary to go down to the shore along the asphalt serpentine. It took us about 5-7 minutes.

The ocean roared with restraint, but a wave of surf, almost human height, rolled onto the strip of the beach, and salt spray flew in our faces.

We were not going to swim here, we just stood facing the ocean, looked at these waves, at the rays of the lighthouse that illuminated the shore and the surf line. We were alone with the ocean, and there was such delight in our souls that we wanted to sing or shout.

After 10 minutes, the whole group pulled up to the beach. Several brave men went for a swim. Among them, a 70-year-old pensioner from Gorlovka, a former miner, went into the water. So he swam wherever he could get to the water. The water was invigorating, but not icy. According to them, degrees 17-18.

I collect a handful of pebbles on the shore as a keepsake. The beach was sandy, but interspersed with small pebbles, and these small white pellets added to my collection.

For about forty minutes we were on the beach, then we waited for the swimmers, and we return to the hotel, and only now we are starting to look around in the room. The room is designed for a family of 4-6 people. In addition to the bedroom and the nursery with a bunk bed, there was a large sofa in the living room.

There are all conditions for a good rest: a large open terrace, with a table and chairs, a kitchen with all utensils, a normal empty refrigerator, air conditioning and a TV. I would not refuse to relax for a week in such a room during the warmer season.

After dinner, we already begin to think about the plan for tomorrow. After all, tomorrow we have another highlight of the tour: a visit to the most luxurious and respectable Spanish resort of San Sebastian.
