My information (regarding prices) as of the end of December 2017, I can give you fresh information in a week, when I return to Sharm. Il Mercato from the Old Town is a 20-minute walk at a leisurely pace, 5 minutes by blue minibus, they go often. The cost from the Old City to the police station is 1 pound, which is 0.05$ (the exchange rate on 12/25/17 was 17.77 pounds for 1$). If you go to the gas station (they call it "gasoline") you will pay 1.5 pounds ($ 0.08), to the Farsha cafe 2 pounds. We took a taxi from Nabq to the Hadaba area for $ 4 (these are two opposite ends of Sharm). Seafood is the freshest and cheapest on a short street near the mosque in the Old City. Right on the street there is a counter with all kinds of fish and shrimp. They can cook there in three ways: boil, grill and batter. Very tasty and fast. We took king prawns and eel. Ready in 30 minutes, packed. You can eat right in the park on a bench, pick up your room or pay $ 5 and sit in a nearby restaurant. The price is $10-12 per kg.

15-20 minutes walk, focus on the mosque. We took a $1 taxi back. Prices in the old town are indeed much lower.

Fruit was taken where necessary at a ridiculous price. They were very cheap everywhere, even in the supermarket, even in any shop on the street. Tangerines 6 pounds, pomegranate 10-12 pounds, mango $ 1, strawberries 15 pounds per kg., Guava 14 pounds, huge red pepper 5 pounds in the store, Hibiscus tea 85 pounds in the store and spices in the same place.

Google map show everything!

Mango already 7-8 dollars / kg - not the season already. 1 dollar was a month ago) But other seasonal fruits appeared - kumquat, dates - cost a penny. Guava -1 dollar/kg

And what is physalis, is it worth trying?
аватар olesjo
physalis - a colossal thing, so eat and in salads gives a great taste !!
аватар victoria111
But I didn’t like physalis) Guava - if ripe - very tasty

Physalis, dates, guava are in season. I don’t understand ours, to choke on strawberries, which we will have in a couple of months and ignore fruits that we don’t have. I just ate physalis there

What is the right way to eat guava? (only the insides, with seeds? or the shell too???)
аватар nalenav
I love physalis very much .... especially berry (in December in Egypt I ate it) ... and my husband can’t stand it ... it’s an amateur .... a kind of nightshade ... very useful for losing weight .. ..
аватар victoria111
About guava: as you like, so be it. Like our pears or apples - someone peels, someone eats with a peel
аватар nalenav
I tried kumquats for the first time in December .... I didn’t like them - they are very sour, but there’s nothing to compare with - maybe it wasn’t the season yet ....
аватар nalenav
why she asked about guava - we ate like apples ... then she began to notice that the Europeans looked askance at us strangely ... I watched - they cut the guava into 2 parts with a knife and eat the pulp (with seeds) with a spoon, and leave the rest .... .
аватар victoria111
Kumquat is a tin, what a sour horror))) it must be chewed with the peel and swallowed immediately))) It is very useful for smokers and with bronchitis - it clears the bronchi. The people ate it in basins, but we couldn’t even eat one)
аватар victoria111
it (guava) can be eaten completely and only the middle - as you like. Read here: https://ru.wikihow.com/%D0%BA%D1%83%D1%88%D0%B0%D1%82%D1%8C-%D0%B3%D1%83%D0%B0 %D0%B2%D1%83

Egyptian cotton, spices, oils.

You are presenting physalis here, as if exotic. It is also perfectly grown in our latitudes, in fact, just a kind of tomato.
аватар solt07
And what are "your latitudes", let me know? We (Ukraine) have a rather tomato country, so I have not seen such (physalis) varieties .. And the fact that they help in "losing weight" .... is possible! But there is a simpler recipe - you need to eat half a bucket less!
аватар Veter.Peremen-Nadezhda.Kurganskaya
Definitely better and richer choice in the old town) Yes, and cheaper) And eat seafood at the restaurant "Fares" - located in the old town, and in Mercato.
аватар ollennka
"Our latitudes" are approximately common, I do not take into account the extreme north))). Single gardeners grow it, on an industrial scale, apparently, no one eats it. It tastes like sweet tomatoes, for an amateur.
аватар nalenav
yes, I grow physalis in the garden (Ukraine) ... it is very tasty to add it to tomatoes during preservation ...
but no one eats raw physalis except me ..... although the nightshade family, it doesn’t taste like tomatoes, even remotely .... varieties of the sea ...
аватар partnercol
Now in Sharm, pomegranate 2dol, mango 4dol, strawberry 1dol, tangerine 1dollar/2kg
аватар yorkhils
a week and a half ago, we walked along El Mercato, the prices for souvenirs were cheap (probably because it was completely empty) and the seller said the prices in order to sell at least something ... it was even a shame to haggle ...
